After dragging on for months, a standoff between DirecTV and The Weather Channel has ended and the winner is pretty clear. In mid-January TWC went dark on the satellite service and DirecTV started pushing the three people left who don’t get their…
Back in February, at the Mobile World Congress 2014, Samsung unveiled a trio of wearable devices. Apart from two smartwatches, the company also launched an activity tracker called Gear Fit. Apart from the fact that it also tells the time, the Gear Fit’s simple yet stunning AMOLED display gives users access to a wide variety of fitness related information. There was one caveat though that bugged people who played around with the tracker. The display would only be displayed horizontally regardless of where the tracker was on the wrist. It looks like Samsung has removed this limitation.
We have heard multiple reports that through a software update, the Gear Fit’s display gets vertical orientation as well. This should help make prolonged usage of the tracker more convenient. It is not known when Samsung intends to roll out this software update, though Gear Fit units with vertical orientation have already been seen in Samsung’s official stores at home in Korea.
Samsung’s new wearable devices will be released alongside the Galaxy S5 come April 11th. Presumably soon after the company may release this software update, which is immediately going to eliminate the pain for all customers who received their brand new activity trackers from Samsung next week.

Worried that you’ve piled your plate too high at the buffet? Researchers at SRI—the folks who created Siri before Apple bought it—are working on a new app that uses image recognition and clever AI to provide a fairly accurate estimate of the calories you’re about to consume.
You’ve never heard of the Millennium Falcon? It’s the car that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. I had to stop for gas like five times though. The choice of vehicle for this amazing customization is actually appropriate when you stop to think that Star Wars takes place a long time ago.
It was built by Bill Deacon from a 1974 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Classic. This image comes from Star Wars Celebration IV back in 2007, but you are seeing it now because it is super cool. That cockpit mounted on passenger-side mirror even has action figures of Han Solo and Chewbacca inside. Naturally, its license plate reads HANCHWY. Apparently it also has a TIE fighter hood ornament but apparently it’s currently out on a mission.
I hope Bill is still driving this thing. She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts, kid.

The Bagger 288 is not only one of the largest earthmovers in the world, it’s one of the largest land vehicles anywhere, full stop. And now someone has turned the 13,000-ton coal-chewing crawling beast into a fire-spitting stomping Transformer
The HTC One M8 has a Google Play edition, but how is it different? (hands-on)
Posted in: Today's Chili HTC’s latest flagship device, the One M8, is one of the best Android smartphones now available on the market, but what would happen to it if Google stripped the phone of some of its customizations? That’s essentially what the Google Play edition of…
Online video streaming services are all the rage these days. Major players in this niche like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon instant Video already offer a lot of content for children, but the interface usually isn’t that child-friendly. This is where Sesame Street steps in. Sesame Workshop today announced the launch of its very own online streaming service called Sesame Go. Its developed specifically for kids, even the interface has been customized with “little hands in mind,” the company says.
Sesame Go Is Like Netflix For Kids, But Cheaper original content from Ubergizmo.

As far as newspaper ads go, the classifieds are an especially boring section of tiny text and identically spaced columns. But it doesn’t always have to be so! This ingenious little ad for Corona’s kitchens by Colombia-based designer Felipe Salazar plays with the geometry of classified ads. An entire kitchen, complete with gas hood and stove, pops right out at you. You can’t do that with Craigslist.
