What's Your Favorite Notepad?

We here at Gizmodo love pens. We’re very particular about what we write with, and hey—we’re pretty fussy about what we’re writing on, too. We’ve got our personal faves, and want to know: What are your go-to notebooks, must-have pads, and never-without journals?

Project Ara Demonstrated In Video

Google has shed more light concerning the Project Ara modular smartphone, despite the very first Ara Developers Conference being set to happen this coming April 15th. What you see above happens to be a video of the team behind the project, where it clearly lets the world know in no uncertain terms on how the smartphone of the future will stay together, in addition to the individual modules’ ability to arrive in different external textures and styles.

A trio of endoskeletons were shown in the video too, if you are eagle eyed enough to notice those renders. These endoskeletons will vary from one to another when it comes to pricing and capacity. For instance, the smallest of the lot is tipped to carry a $50 price tag thereabouts with at least the ability to hold half a dozen modules, while the mid-sized version should be able to tote eight or so, and the phablet-sized version in all probability will carry a minimum of nine modules.

The modules in question that will carry different items such as processors, storage, camera sensors, and others, will remain in place within the aforementioned endoskeleton thanks to an electro-permanent magnet. There will be an electrical current that will change the magnetic properties of a permanent magnet so that the module will remain stuck there even when there is no power available. Pretty neat, eh?

The TravelCard is a backup battery that can keep up with a busy lifestyle

charginginwallet
We depend on our phones to keep us in the loop. Can’t find your ride at the airport, running late, need to send an email, or find directions? Our phones have become an all-knowing source of information as well as a way to stay connected. The only time it doesn’t do all of these amazing things, is when it dies. Of course, you can always get a backup battery, but there are thousands of options available, and you want to find one that fits your specific needs.

If you only want a little boost in power near the end of the day, and don’t want a backup battery to take up a lot of room in your bag, then the TravelCard would be perfect. This is about the size of a credit card, but it is several times thicker. It houses a 1300mAh battery, which can give your phone about a 40-55% charge, which equates to 5 hours of talk time, 96 of standby, or 4.5 of playing with apps.

This will only work with iPhone 5, 5s, 5c, 5th gen iPod touch, and the 7th gen iPod nano. To charge the TravelCard, simply plug it in via USB, and LEDs will indicate how much juice it has. There is a connector built in to this device, so you don’t need to worry about having cables on hand anymore. This is a tad pricey at $45 seeing that you won’t even get a full charge out of it, but if it fits your situation perfectly, then go for it.

Available for purchase on Travelcardcharger

Automated High-Speed Wire Inspector Takes 40,000 Photos Every Second

Automated High-Speed Wire Inspector Takes 40,000 Photos Every Second

Wires, pipes, and metal rails are produced at incredibly high speeds in factories. Often as fast as 33 feet per second, which makes doing detailed inspections as the materials are produced almost impossible. But researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques IPM in Freiburg, Germany, have found a way using high-speed cameras and LED flashes brighter than the sun.
