As per earlier rumors, Microsoft has officially unveiled Cortana, Windows Phone 8.1’s personal assistant. During the presentation, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore stressed that Cortana will be launched as beta, which we can’t help but feel is a jab at Apple’s Siri which did not exactly perform as advertised and was later revealed to be in beta mode. It is not a surprise that Amazon’s game controller has been revealed, where this particular device is set to play nice with their brand new Fire TV. Of course, one can always make use of the set-top box’s remote or an upcoming custom app in order to play games with, although this dedicated controller is also more than capable of doing its bit to control a Fire TV-specific version of Minecraft.

Amazon has finally introduced their Amazon Fire TV, where it has been touted to be the easiest, no-brainer method to watch Netflix, Prime Instant Video, Hulu Plus, WatchESPN, and others on your living room’s big screen TV. With the Fire TV, the adage of not judging a book by its cover applies, except that this is a tiny box that packs quite a big punch.

At an event in New York City today, Amazon showed off a new streaming set-top box, Amazon Fire TV for $99.
At the end of last year, a new USB Type-C connector was announced, and here we are with a render of what the final deal could actually look like. It is interesting to see a new variant of the USB connector appear considering how microUSB has already done its fair bit in climbing up the popularity stakes among users. Still, to have a new kind of cable architecture known as the USB Type-C is welcome, as it will be smaller than microUSB and is also reversible. This means you no longer need to worry about its orientation whenever you plug the USB Type-C cable into a compatible port.
