Nintendo Game Boy Officially Turns 25 Years Old

Nintendo Game Boy Officially Turns 25 Years OldThe Nintendo Game Boy is a classic piece of gaming equipment. Every kid wanted it back in the day, and if you had one, you were pretty much the most popular kid in school. Well if you have fond memories of the device, we should note that the Nintendo Game Boy is officially 25 years old. Yup, you read that right, if you had fond memories of playing with the handheld console, there’s a good chance that this post might make you feel a bit old.

The handheld console was originally launched on the 21st of April 1989 and basically revolutionized the handheld gaming industry, much like how Sony’s Walkman changed the portable music landscape, and how the iPod changed the way we consumed music digitally. Safe to say it was a classic. The Game Boy went on to evolve and saw upgrades over the years, such as the Game Boy Pocket that introduced a much slimmer profile, and also sharper images.

Later on Nintendo also introduced the Game Boy Color which brought color the Game Boy games, an area in which Sega’s Game Gear had before Nintendo. Later versions of the console revealed the Game Boy Advance and the Game Boy Advance SP, before Nintendo officially discontinued it in 2003.

Now the Nintendo 3DS has taken the Game Boy’s place as Nintendo’s handheld gaming console, but let’s face it, there was a certain charm about the original Game Boy that can never be replaced.

DeLorme announces inReach Explorer

increach-delormeWhen it comes to dedicated GPS navigation devices, this seems to be a sunset industry, considering the navigation capability that smartphones and tablets alike these days sport. Well, I am quite sure that it has ended up as a niche market. Case in point, DeLorme has just unveiled their latest generation of inReach devices, calling it the inReach Explorer, which will target stores some time in early May, where it will builds on DeLorme’s award-winning technology in order to ensure that outdoor adventurers, offshore boaters, hunters, aviators, travelers and workers will be able to remain connected regardless of where they go.

The inReach Explorer is not only able to deliver messaging, tracking and SOS capabilities, it is also capable of letting users view, create or navigate routes and waypoints. There is the presence of an easy-to-follow map view that shows off the various routes, waypoints, tracks and messages geo-located onscreen for backtracking or self-rescue. In addition, a built-in digital compass, barometric altimeter and accelerometer sensors will work in tandem to ensure accuracy while providing heading and bearing information, accurate elevation readings, speed and other useful trip statistics.

Apart from that, DeLorme has also announced the launch of Freedom subscription plans for the entire slew of inReach products, where users will need to pay for the satellite service only when they need it, all on a monthly basis. This ought to make it more attractive, being a Pay As You Use model that will not strain one’s monthly financial burdens.

Michael Heffron, CEO of DeLorme, shared, “inReach Explorer is the first personal satellite communicator to bring together the power of navigation with truly global SOS alerting, GPS tracking and two-way text messaging in one rugged, waterproof device. For people whose recreational activities or work takes them to remote locations without reliable cellular coverage, inReach Explorer is a single, lightweight device that can help them navigate, communicate and seek help in the event of an emergency.” The inReach Explorer will retail for $379 a pop if you’re interested.

Resident Evil 7 Could Be Announced At E3 2014 [Rumor]

Resident Evil 7 Could Be Announced At E3 2014 [Rumor]Resident Evil 6 was announced and launched back in 2012 and in 2013, we heard the rumors that Resident Evil 7 could be announced at E3, but unfortunately those rumors did not pan out. However thanks to recent rumors as per an article on Sankei Shimbun, a Japanese economic newspaper, they claim that Resident Evil 7 is expected to be announced this year at E3 2014.

The gaming convention will be taking place in the middle of the year and the report claims that Capcom is expected to unveil the new Resident Evil title then. The title is also said to be non-exclusive to any particular platform and that will be most likely make its way onto multiple platforms, so that’s good news for gamers who might be a little worried about exclusivity.

Now given that the Resident Evil franchise has been around for a while, we’re sure many are wondering if there could come a day when the franchise is shut down. Perhaps that day will come eventually, or maybe not, but the report claims that Resident Evil 7 will not be the last title in the franchise so fans can rest easy knowing that there could probably be more Resident Evil games in the future.

Not much is known about Resident Evil 7 for now, but it is expected to return to its survival-horror roots. Capcom has yet to officially confirm any of this but that is to be expected since we doubt they’ll want to ruin the big reveal, but either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more info, so until we get the official word, do take it with a grain of salt for now.

LinkedIn Polls For Groups Will Be Shutting Down 15th May

LinkedIn Polls For Groups Will Be Shutting Down 15th MayWhile Facebook is seen more as a casual sort of social network, LinkedIn could be thought of as a more professional version of Facebook where people use it to connect to others of varying professions, like to build up a work-related network so to speak.

It is also because of the number of professionals that use LinkedIn that it can also be used to poll professionals who use the website, but unfortunately it looks like that feature could soon be shutting down.

According to LinkedIn, they have announced that LinkedIn Polls will be shutting down on the 15th of May, meaning that if you wanted to use the feature to poll your connections on the network, you’ll need to find some other means to do so.

The company writes, “We’re continuously evaluating how our current products and features are used, and seeking new ways to focus our resources on building the best products. This sometimes results in the retirement of certain features.” They also stated that all data related to polls will also be removed in the process.

LinkedIn Polls was introduced back in December 2011 and was designed as a way to gain the insights of members of the group. This is actually not the first LinkedIn Poll to be retired as in the past, the company has also retired its general polling application. In any case like we said, you’ll need to find an alternative but there are plenty of third-party services out there that you can easily check out, such as Voice and Wedgies, for example.
