Unlike software, hardware isn’t updated frequently. If an application has any bugs or security flaws, a patch will fix it in no time, but if a piece of hardware is made and released to the public and there are some glaring issues, a hardware recall might be necessary. That being said, wouldn’t it be nice if you had a piece of hardware that could evolve over time?
That’s what the folks being Binauric are trying to do with a speaker they are calling the Boom Boom. The speaker itself is pretty straightforward and will pair with your smartphone via Bluetooth, but the main difference is that the longer you’ve had the Boom Boom speakers, the more functionalities it will get.
How they are doing this is by adding pieces of hardware inside the speakers itself that would only activate after a certain period of time, such as accelerometers, light sensors, and microphones. According to its designer, Mathieu Lehanneur, “These are like sleeping components that are waiting to be woken up.”
If anything it sounds like Binauric have created a feature packed speaker that has a bunch of hardware inside that opens it up to various possibilities. Right now the company has given some Boom Boom speakers to students at the ECAL University and hopes that the students will take the device apart, hack into it, and create new ways to use the speakers beyond what speakers are meant to be used for.
It’s a very clever idea and it sounds very intriguing, but the question is will it catch on? With features constantly having the potential to evolve, it’s like the device will never get old, although do we really need speakers to come with that much functionality? What do you guys think?

Unfortunately not everywhere we go comes with free WiFi. In fact research has shown that perhaps using public WiFi might not be the safest idea, especially if you’re trying to send confidential files or have data you’d rather not have intercepted. That being said, you can create your own hotspot using your phone but that drains battery, so what else can you do? How about the BB.Suit?
The Bb.Suit is essentially a jacket in which through a special 3D technique is used in the knitting process, it leaves space for WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, and GPS connectivity which would turn the wearer into a walking hotspot! In fact the BB.Suit doesn’t look geeky at all and could totally pass off as a regular hoodie.
The idea was cooked up by fashion designer Borre Akkersdijk and was shown off at South by Southwest where the not only could the BB.Suit be tracked via Google Maps, users could also upload songs onto it to create a playlist of sorts. It’s a pretty interesting idea and according to Akkersdijk, he plans on improving it by working with tech companies to create a smart clothing platform.
But what about smartwatches and head gear? Well according to him, he feels that such devices are too ungainly, which we have to admit is true to a certain extent. After all if you did not know any better, you’d probably think that the BB.Suit is just another regular hoodie, which is kind of the point, especially since we’ve seen such hostility towards Google Glass wearers.

Given the steampunk nature of BioShock, we can totally see how the movie might be pretty appealing to moviemakers, although oddly enough we haven’t really heard anything about the possibility of a movie, at least until now. It seems that Sony Pictures has recently registered for a trio of domain names: bioshock-movie.com, bioshock-movie.net, and bio-shock.net.
The latter doesn’t really tell us much although the former two domain name registrations seems to suggest that Sony Pictures could be interested in making a BioShock movie, or are at least looking to protect the IP in the event that a movie is made. Of course it is possible that the domain registrations are fake as we have seen in the past, but at the same time it’s not so far-fetched.
After all ever since the first BioShock game was released, there have been talks about turning it into a movie, but so far this is pretty much the most concrete “evidence” we have to date. While we’re sure that BioShock fans are looking forward to the idea of a movie, we remain a bit skeptical. Video games turned to movies have typically never fared very well.
In fact a professor at a university even offered up his opinion on why video games that are made into movies tend to fail. In any case BioShock fans should probably not get their hopes up just yet, but we’ll definitely keep our eyes peeled. In the meantime are you guys excited at the possibility?
