10 Hidden Features Of Samsung Galaxy S5

samsung-galaxy-s5-review-031

Samsung has a habit of loading feature packed software on its premium smartphones, not that I’m complaining, though this often makes it hard for the average user to figure out just how all of them work. Most users don’t go beyond some of the device’s biggest features, which are often touted in advertisements and promotional materials. Fact is, often there are quite a few features that go unnoticed. Not to worry though, the 10 hidden features of Samsung Galaxy S5 list created by the company itself has your back.

For example, one feature that exists in the 22 quick menu icons inside Setting app’s Display menu lets you increase the touch sensitivity of Galaxy S5′s display. Enabling this lets you interact with the touchscreen display even if you’re wearing gloves. It is actually so sensitive that you can even write on it with a pencil.

Other features described in the list include Kids Mode, which the company talked a great deal about at the launch event. It has a completely different user experience design that keeps kids occupied while keeping important data and content not suitable for them away. The mode can be used to allow and restrict access to apps and media content stored on the device.

The 10 hidden features of Galaxy S5 list is certainly an interesting read. Do check it out if you already own the device and want to be sure that you’re getting the best possible user experience.

BlackBerry 10.3 Early Build Shown Off On Video

BlackBerry is soldiering on despite quarter after quarter of losses. The company looks towards the future as it aims to be profitable by 2015. To do that it must revamp its hardware offerings and improve software. BlackBerry is working hard on both fronts, with new devices expected in the coming months, as well a major software update. A video has appeared online of a very early BlackBerry 10.3 OS build, showing off some of the features that are expected in this update.

The company’s very own virtual private assistant is going to make its debut with BB10.3 OS. It has taken BlackBerry a lot of time to catch up to Siri, Google Now and even Microsoft’s Cortana, but hasn’t given up. Called Intelligent Assistant it basically does all the things that its rivals can do. In the video though it not exactly flawless. That said, given this is an early build, its likely that the company has ironed out a lot of the issues by now.

User interface tweaks include the removal of grey background behind app icons, which have been replaced by a minuscule drop shadow. BlackBerry Hub gets a flatter UI in this update, with accent color being changed from blue to orange. Camera app is set to receive new features as well, including a self timer, settings for HDR, new photo gallery and a panoramic mode.

BlackBerry hasn’t confirmed as yet when it is going to release OS 10.3 for supported devices.

HTC Hires Former Samsung Marketing Guru

htc-one-review-m8-labshot-12

Its no secret that HTC has an image problem. The company itself has accepted that it needs to do more when it comes to marketing. Despite the fact that it has created some of the most well received high-end smartphones, they haven’t been able to compete against their rivals. Earlier in the week it was rumored that HTC had hired Paul Golden, a former US chief marketing officer from Samsung. HTC has confirmed the hiring, Golden initially has a three month contract and will report directly to HTC chairperson Cher Wang.

Golden’s LinkedIn page says that he “created and launched the highly successful Galaxy brand.” He worked at Samsung from 2008 to 2012, crucial years for the company during which it rose to global dominance on the back of its strong marketing. Samsung has never been shy of taking shots at Apple in its marketing efforts.

Last year HTC tried to turn its fortunes around by bringing Robert Downey Jr. onboard for a campaign. That apparently didn’t do much. This time around, for the HTC One M8, it tapped Gary Oldman. A-listers might be good as far as star power is concerned, but the ad man that helped Samsung reach new heights would certainly be a valuable addition to HTC’s marketing team.

Sketchy Photo Of iOS 8 On iPhone 5S Appears Online

ios-8-iphone-5s

At Worldwide Developers Conference 2014 Apple is expected to unveil iOS 8. While we have already heard a lot about what to expect from the upcoming major software update we still haven’t seen official images, and we won’t until WWDC 2014. However a sketchy image has appeared online showing off what is claimed to be an iOS 8 beta build running on iPhone 5S. Even if it corroborates with some of the rumors we have heard about iOS 8, it is highly likely that this photo might be fake.

Rumor has it that iOS 8 will come with a Healthbook app as well as a standalone iTunes Radio app, both are seen in the picture. Even an app titled “Watch Utility” can be seen. Since Apple is expected to introduce the iWatch later this year, the app can only serve one purpose, but it certainly won’t be there in iOS 8 if Apple has no plans of launching a wearable device anytime soon.

Apart from the apps it doesn’t seem like any major user interface changes will be made to iOS 8, provided that this imagine really does offer a glimpse of what the new software looks like. Staging this photo is as easy as opening up a fake in camera roll and then taking a picture, so as previously cautioned, take this with a grain of salt.

Verizon Galaxy S4 KitKat Release Expected May 2nd

verizon-galaxy-s4-kitkat

Even though Google released Android 4.4 KitKat last year it has still taken carriers a lot of time to roll out the latest update for their customers. In the U.S. Verizon is one of the few carriers that still haven’t released KitKat for the Samsung Galaxy S4. That might be about to change in the near future though. A purported leaked internal memo from Big Red reads that Verizon Galaxy S4 KitKat update release is going to take place on May 2nd.

It should be kept in mind though that Verizon still hasn’t confirmed anything as far as KitKat for its Galaxy S4 variant is concerned. The carrier only recently released this very update for the LG G2. Until Big Red confirms the date we can’t be sure of it, so even if you mark your calendars for May 2nd, be prepared to be let down.

For the impatient lot there’s always the option to go down the road filled with custom ROMs. Already there are a plethora of custom Android 4.4 KitKat based ROMs for the Galaxy S4. The flashing process might be unnerving for folks who haven’t done it before, and since there’s always the risk of bricking your device, its best to only go that way if you absolutely know what you’re doing.

Crook Uses Heat Vision Drone To Target Weed Growhouses

quadcopter-algo

Law enforcement agencies, such as the DEA in the US, have used thermal imaging cameras for a long time to locate marijuana growhouses. That’s because the hydroponic lights used for indoor growing operations give off a significant amount of heat, making them vulnerable to detection through the aforementioned cameras. When they come across a growhouse, they bust it. A crook in the UK is doing the opposite. By attaching a heat seeking camera to a drone, he seeks out growhouses and steals their weed, or compel them to pay “tax,” a fancy word for extortion.

Halesowen News interviewed the tech-savvy weed criminal who initially brought the drone so that he could look into people’s windows. When he noticed that police helicopters used thermal imaging cameras to find indoor marijuana growing operations, he bought a heat seeking camera online and hooked it up to the drone. When he locates a property he and “his crew” burgle the place.

Contrary to what most people would think, apparently in places like Halesowen, Cradley Heath and Oldbury “the people growing it are not gangsters,” says the crook. Apparently they don’t even need to use violence half the time when they hit up a growhouse.

Obviously in the crook’s eyes this isn’t a blatant violation of peoples’ privacy, let alone a complete disregard for the law. “I am just after drugs to steal and sell, if you break the law then you enter me and my drone’s world,” he says.
