Motorola Moto G For $149 Unlocked Via Republic Wireless

Motorola Moto G For $149 Unlocked Via Republic WirelessAt this point in time, if you are looking for plenty of bang for your hard earned buck when it comes to purchasing a smartphone, perhaps those of you who are peering down the Android barrel might want to check out Motorola’s Moto G handset. It is hands down, at the moment, the best value for money one can obtain where an Android-powered smartphone is concerned. Even better yet is Republic Wireless stepping forward to offer the Motorola Moto G for a mere $149 without having you to be hooked to a contract, and this will come in the form of the 8GB model.

Republic Wireless happens to be a unique MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) that relies on both VoIP calls over Wi-Fi as well as Sprint’s network for roaming capability. Of course, if you think that 8GB is not enough for you, there is always the option to bring home a 16GB model, which will cost $30 more. It is a no-brainer as to which particular version you should pick up, especially since $30 might not go very far in this day and age, no thanks to inflation and the ilk.

Republic Wireless do have plans that start from $25 monthly for unlimited calling, texts, and 3G data, and those who want 4G connectivity can do so for $40 per month. It makes no sense to jump aboard the 4G bandwagon since the Moto G is 3G only though.

#Chokia Is Just Desserts For Nokia’s 3D Printing Research

The recently concluded Microsoft BUILD 2014 (that saw Nokia’s presence there as well) had its fair share of moments when it came to 3D printing capability being paraded. The integration of 3D printing with the Windows Phone platform has not been refined just yet, but this does not mean that Nokia is going to eschew this potential market by fabricating edible technology courtesy of 3D printing tech, of course.

Considering how Easter Sunday is just around the corner, Nokia decided to take the 3D printing idea to churn out a worthy task, which would involve chocolate. After all, it is very rare to find someone who is able to resist chocolate, unless that person suffers from an allergy or is simply disciplined enough to stay away from such sinful calories.

Known as #Chokia, this happens to be the fruit of the most recent 3D printing research by Nokia. Chocolatier Mark Jones was tasked with producing the Nokia logo via a 3D printer which replaces “ink” with chocolate. Not exactly the easiest of tasks, considering how chocolate needs to be mixed correctly at the right temperature so that it does not clog up the nozzle. Gotta say that it looks like an extremely delicious effort!

Is Steve Ballmer Using An iPhone Now? (Debunked & Updated)

Is Steve Ballmer Using An iPhone Now? (Debunked & Updated)Steve Ballmer, who used to be the CEO of Microsoft and has since retired from the position, should be free from the shackles of the type of smartphones and tablets that he uses, which means he can now cross over to Apple’s pasture if he so desires. Hey, it is a free country, is it not? While he owns around 4% of Microsoft, shouldn’t he continue to stick with what he knows best, and that would include riding with a Windows Phone handset? It does seem that he has picked up an iPhone along the way, at least according to a new Twitter account, @MicrosoftSteve, that has sent out some tweets using the Twitter for iPhone app. In one of those tweets, there was a selfie, with Mr. Ballmer in it, of course.

While it has yet to be verified that this is yet another of Mr. Ballmer’s Twitter account, if it were to be proven so, then it would surely mean he really has taken the leap over to the iPhone from Apple. That would certainly be ironic, since when the original iPhone launched in 2007, Mr. Ballmer was more inclined to support Microsoft’s mobile strategy while promoting the good side of the Motorola Q.

Ah well, perhaps he has made his peace with the iPhone, and is now enjoying his time as a retiree, surfing the Internet on Cupertino’s mobile device.

Update: Several reports have flown around on Twitter that @MicrosoftSteve does not belong to Ballmer at all, but happens to hail from the efforts of serial scammer Arturas Rosenbacher.

Canonical Reveals Ubuntu 14.04 Desktop

Canonical Reveals Ubuntu 14.04 DesktopTime certainly flies, don’t you think so? It has been half a dozen months already since the Saucy Salamander install rolled out. This time around, the folks over at Canonical is pushing out the most recent version of its popular Linux distro, calling it Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Of course, like any other good Linux distro, it would need to be accompanied by a code name, and so we have it known as Trusty Tahr.

This will be part of its long term support series, and that translates to it being on the receiving end of support and security updates for up to five years instead of the standard nine months. For companies that use either on desktop machines and servers, this is definitely good news. Why is Trusty such a big deal for Canonical? Well, it basically allows the operating system to be ready to see action on touchscreen displays, high DPI screens and tablets. Up till now, Ubuntu has not properly scaled high resolution displays. Apart from that, Ubuntu 14.04 would mark the first stable version of Ubuntu for tablets, now how about that? Are you stoked yet? Those who are interested are able to download Ubuntu 14.04 for free, of course. [Press Release]

Titanfall On Xbox One Is Top Selling Title

Titanfall On Xbox One Is Top Selling TitleYes, we have heard about how well the Xbox One has done in terms of its “sales” – actually, Microsoft revealed that 5 million Xbox Ones were shipped to retailers, so as to the total number of those shipped that ended up in the hands of actual gamers remain to be seen. Its arch rival, the Sony PS4, however, has sold 7 million units and counting. Nevertheless, we do know that having the right software will also help propel the sales of hardware, and Titanfall is one of such titles that has helped shift a number of Xbox One units recently, at least in the UK.

The folks over at Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts ought to be congratulated, as Titanfall for Xbox One is the number one selling game in March, at least this is what the NPD Group figures showed as released.

Also, I suppose with the introduction of Titanfall on the Xbox One, gamers happen to spend more time with their beloved console, where the NPD states that each fan spends on average, five hours per day on the Xbox One, with a collective total of over 1 billion hours of time spent in games and apps on the console. Have you given Titanfall a go yet, if you haven’t done so already? [Press Release]
