Looking to add a media player to your HDTV but don’t want to buy another set-top box? Then check out the latest media players from Germany’s Dune HD, which offer full 1080p playback in a tiny package.

The Dune HD Connect will plug into an empty HDMI port on your TV, adding a full HD media player, capable of streaming content in a wide variety of formats from your home network or over the Internet. While specific format support hasn’t been announced, you can get a sense of what it’s likely to handly from their current compact media players. The gadget also has a built-in microSD connector and a USB port for playback of local content as well. In addition to the base version, the Dune HD Connect 3D adds full 3D video support via the HDMI 1.4 spec, as well as MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) output.

Dune hasn’t revealed a retail price yet for these compact media players, but expects to release them by the end of the year.

Toshiba took some time at IFA 2012 today to announce three new cameras in its CAMILEO line of full HD camcorders. Sticking with the trend of the line, all three of these cameras can record video in 1080p resolution, and each one is geared toward a different subset of users. As you can see from the image below, there all quite small as well, which means that portability probably isn’t going to be an issue.

First we have the CAMILEO S40, which is being marketed as a “pocketable” camcorder that still delivers when it comes to performance. It sports a pistol grip design, comes in four different colors (silver, turquoise, orange, purple), and features a 5x digital zoom that is helped along by electronic image stabilization. On the back we have a 3-inch LCD touchscreen that features an icon-based GUI, and this camera also comes equipped with CAMILEO’s Uploader Software so you can share what you’ve shot easily. Finally, the S40 comes with mini HDMI and micro USB ports, allowing you to connect it to your other devices and playback video on a larger screen.

Next up is the CAMILEO X150, which is a palm-held camcorder aimed at those who need to get an up-close shot while still maintaining 1080p quality. It features a 10x optical zoom, and allows users to snap pictures while recording video. It also comes equipped with smile detection and face detection, meaning that not only will your pictures be in-focus, but you also won’t be snapping pictures of awkward faces as often. Just like the S40, the X150 comes with a 3-inch LCD touchscreen, along with mini HDMI and micro USB ports for easy playback.

Wrapping up Toshiba’s triple reveal, we have the CAMILEO BW20, which is for those who need a camera that can withstand a few hits. It can handle falls from up to 1.5 meters, and is waterproof down to five meters for up to 30 minutes. It can record in low-light settings all the way down to 2lux, and comes with an anti-glare 2-inch LCD screen so you can review what you’ve shot even with the Sun bearing down on you. As with the cameras before it, this one also features mini HDMI and micro USB ports.

It’s also worth pointing out that all three of these cameras come equipped with an LED flashlight and a multi-card slot. There isn’t any pricing information on these camcorders yet, and Toshiba hasn’t announced a release date either, saying that they’ll be available in the UK starting in Q4 2012. Sony is continuing to build out its NXCAM video camera line with the new interchangeable lens NEX-EA50EH, a surprise entrant that’s aimed firmly at the run and gun professional crowd. It sports the same APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor as other cameras in the NEX line, and has notably added a rocker-style zoom lever for its brand new SEL18-200PZ 11x E-mount Servo Zoom Lens. That item is one of the first large sensor servo zooms we’ve seen, and packs continuous variable isis, auto focus and “Optical Steady Shot” active image stabilization. Another eyebrow-raiser is the model’s still photo talent, with the ability to shoot 16MP RAW stills, a mechanical shutter with its own release button and a flash hot-shoe all squeezed in. Video is recorded up to 60fps at 1080P in AVCHD 2.0, presumably at 28 or 17 Mbps, to SD/SDHC/SDXC cards, Sony Memory Sticks or Sony’s dedicated external SSD unit, which attaches to the camera. All that is topped off by an onboard shotgun microphone, a shoulder mount form factor and $4,500 price point (which has already changed twice on B&H). Samsung released the international version of the Galaxy Note in November 2011, and not long afterwards LG announced its intentions to release its own 5-inch smartphone. Recent reports have indicated that the Galaxy Note II will make an appearance at a Samsung event on August 29th, and it looks like HTC isn’t content with being left out of the large smartphone game. DigiTimes reports that the company is planning to release a 5-inch device of its own that will trounce the competition with a 1080p display.

According to sources speaking to DigiTimes, HTC plans on releasing the device sometime in September or October, putting it up against the likes of the Galaxy Note II and the next iPhone, if current release date rumors are to be believed. The resolution of the device is listed as 1794×1080: the panel will most likely be 1920×1080, while 126 pixels are used for the onscreen Android keys found on Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean.

Little is known about the device, although DigiTimes does go on to say that the surprisingly large sales of the Galaxy Note has prompted other companies to take a second look at the form factor. Back in June, Samsung claimed it had sold more than 7 million Galaxy Notes worldwide, impressive for a device that was at first dismissed. LG’s Optimus Vu has been been available in South Korea for several months now, featuring a 5-inch 1024×768 screen, but the company hasn’t released any sales numbers for the device.

Specs for HTC’s mystery 5-inch device aren’t known, although benchmarks leaked in July indicate that the company is working on a device with a 1080p screen matched with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chip. The device certainly didn’t lack in horsepower either, doubling the score of the HTC One X while also beating the Samsung Galaxy S III by a healthy margin. BGR also reported back in April that an HTC device with a 5-inch 1080p display would land on Verizon sometime in the Fall.
