This week the folks at IZON have made an early push to get in on the CES 2014 action with word that they’ll be bringing their own 3D TVs to CES 2014 without a need for 3D glasses. These units will be released in 32-inch, 47-inch, and 55-inch iterations and will not just be prototypes […]
When was the last time you paid a visit to the cinema to watch a 3D movie? Do you think that 3D movies will be able to grow from strength to strength, or does it need some kind of kick start such as Avatar and Gravity in order for it to resonate with the masses? Well, for those of you who enjoy 3D movies but prefer to do so in the comfort of your own home, you might be interested to see what IZON has in store for the masses when next year’s CES kicks off in January. IZON intends to debut its new range of 3D LED televisions that will not use any kind of glasses whatsoever without losing the 3D effect that the movie studio had worked so hard to produce.
This new range of 3D capable LED screens will arrive in 32-inch, 47-inch and 55-inch sizes, and should hit the market some time by the second quarter of 2014. The entire product line will be assembled in the US, so it would also be another way to generate more jobs for those living Stateside. I suppose this would kindle the fire of patriotism in some of us, yes? This glassless 3D experience is made possible thanks to its “HyperMix3D” multi-threaded 3D rendering technology which relies on algorithms to take advantage of multi-core GPUs, while producing immersive 3D without any eyestrain. IZON Wants You To View 3D LED TVs Sans 3D Glasses original content from Ubergizmo.
One of the things that has kept consumers around the word from adopting 3D TVs in force is the fact that you have to wear glasses. Things have improved with several 3D TV makers now offering TVs that work in conjunction with passive glasses rather than active glasses. However, most people don’t want to wear […]

Philips DesignLine TV Looks Like Its Just a Sheet of Glass: Not for Ragequitters
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhen I saw Samsung’s easel-like TV I thought that that was the weirdest you could make a TV while still making it classy. Apparently not. Philips’ new DesignLine TVs have a glass front that is seamless, frameless and a has a black gradient design. When it’s turned off, it looks like the most luxurious piece of leftover construction material you’ll ever see.
As you can see in the images, the TVs are insanely thin and can be leaned against a wall as well as mounted on a well or stood up. Of course, the TV isn’t just glass; its brains and other hardware are hidden behind the LED screen. Speaking of hardware, it should come as no surprise that the DesignLine TVs are 1080p and can play 3D videos.
The TVs are also equipped with Philips’ Ambilight. The lights are designed to enhance the floating effect of the glass front by projecting lights on the wall behind the TV that match what’s being displayed onscreen. I think it’s distracting. I also think I won’t be able to afford a DesignLine TV.
The DesignLine TVs also have WiFi and an AirPlay-like technology called SimplyShare, which will allow users to wirelessly stream media from their computers and mobile devices to the TV. Finally, just so you never forget how much money you spent on it, each DesignLine TV comes with a remote control that has a built-in keyboard and a brushed aluminum finish.
Philips DesignLine TVs come in 46″ and 55″ screen sizes and should be available in Europe and Russia in the second quarter of 2013. No word on how much this thing costs, but you know what they say. They say, “Is there even anything on that deserves to be watched on this TV?”

How the 3D television market was affected by the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show – The coming of 4K OLED TVs
Posted in: Today's Chili3D is all the rage these days when it comes to the movies. The studios have opened up to the concept of shooting movies in three dimensions. It has been found to add to the viewing experience that people derive when watching the movie in a theatre. In fact, the most successful movie of all time was shot in 3D. Despite the cynics and critics lamenting how 3D is ruining the movie going experience, the technology is holding strong and may well continue to do so for the next many years to …
Switched On: A 4K in the road
Posted in: Today's ChiliEach week Ross Rubin contributes Switched On, a column about consumer technology.
The past decade has now seen at least three industry-wide technologies vie for the future of television — HD, 3D and now 4K or UHD. The first of these — HD — represented a massive change for television that affected nearly every aspect of the TV experience from how it was captured to how it was consumed. A decade later, it is nearly impossible to purchase a TV that does not support high-definition. The second — 3D — was a mixed bag. While the technology became commonplace on high-end TVs, it has remained relevant for only a small fraction of programming. The question, then, is which of these paths, if either, 4K will follow.

Lionsgate teams up with Samsung to convert more films to 3D, starts with Gamer, Crank and Bangkok Dangerous
Posted in: Today's Chili
Got a 3D TV? You’ve probably noticed that not all depth perception is equal. It’s true, not all films have the privilege of being shot in 3D — many are converted in post production, and more still make the switch years after their initial release. Lionsgate and Samsung are planning to expand the latter category. Using Sammy’s proprietary 3D processing technology, the two firms will dimensionalize a handful of films from Lionsgate’s catalog, starting with Gamer, Bangkok Dangerous, Crank, and The Descent. More title are on the way too, slated for future release on DVD and Blu-ray. Groundbreaking? No, but worthwhile for 3D connoisseurs. After all, 3D conversion served Star Wars, I, Robot and Disney well enough, didn’t it?
