Nintendo 3DS Set To Do Well In 2014

Nintendo 3DS Set To Do Well In 2014You know what they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. In the world of portable consoles, there is no one who does it better than Nintendo. After all, the Nintendo Game Boy family managed to outlive its far more illustrious rivals over the years with a dot matrix display, and while it received some decent competition from Sony’s PSP over the years, the Nintendo DS family had stayed strong throughout. The latest model, the Nintendo 3DS (which has been around for quite a while too) has been doing roaring business on the software front, where Nintendo shared that the combined physical and eShop 3DS software sales managed to touch the 16 million unit mark last year, which is a 45 percent year-on-year increase over sales from the previous year. How about its hardware sales figure?

Nintendo 3DS Hacked To Be Made Region Free

Nintendo 3DS Hacked To Be Made Region FreeThe Nintendo 3DS is one of the more popular handheld consoles available in the market at the moment, although we guess this was not the case a few years ago until Nintendo started slashing its price, making it an affordable and fun console with a plethora of games to choose from.

Unfortunately what’s holding it back from being an even more popular console is the fact that the device is region-locked, much like Nintendo’s other consoles come to think of it, meaning that if the game is not released for your region, you can’t play it until it has been localized. Die-hard fans of certain titles are definitely pleased about this since some games tend to be released in Japan first and sometimes exclusively, but the good news is that hackers have found a way to make the Nintendo 3DS region-free. Percentage Of Nintendo 3DS Sales To Be Paid To Tomita As Royalties

Percentage Of Nintendo 3DS Sales To Be Paid To Tomita As RoyaltiesBack in 2013, we reported that Nintendo was being sued over technology found in its Nintendo 3DS handheld console, specifically that of its glasses-free 3D technology that allowed gamers to play 3D games on it without requiring any additional accessories. The courts ultimately found Nintendo guilty and awarded Seijiro Tomita USD30.2 million in damages. Now according to reports, it seems that not only did Nintendo have to fork out that whopping amount of money in damages, but it seems that if the company wishes to continue selling and producing its Nintendo 3DS system, they will have to pay Tomita royalties.

This was ruled by a court in the US who decided that Nintendo had to pay Tomita 1.82% of the wholesale price of the Nintendo 3DS for every unit sold, from now until the end of the console’s life. 1.82% admittedly does not sound like a lot of money, but when you’ve sold millions upon millions of units, it really does start to add up. However we guess it is better than the judge ruling that a flat amount had to be paid out, especially since the console’s price is expected to dip in the future as demand wanes and as technology becomes cheaper, which the judge in question, Jed Rakoff, thought would be an “unearned windfall” to Tomita if that were to happen. It is unclear if Nintendo plans to fight this but for now, it looks like Nintendo will have to start reaching into their pockets.

Porn Found On Supposedly New Nintendo 3DS Bought From Wal-Mart

Porn Found On Supposedly New Nintendo 3DS Bought From Wal MartWhen you buy a new console, like the Nintendo 3DS, chances are the last thing you would expect is to find porn on it. Unfortunately this happens more often than we would like as back in 2012, a similar case happened at GameStop, but this year it looks like the blame has fallen onto Wal-Mart. Tom Mayhew had gone to Wal-Mart and purchased a Nintendo 3DS handheld console system for his 8-year old son who decided to play around with the console’s camera and took photos of himself and his siblings. However when he went into the gallery, instead of finding photos of himself, he instead found pornographic material.

According to Mayhew, “It was a shocker because we had family here, and there were a lot of kids here. The kids were the ones that discovered those pictures. There is no reason for them to be even really on there,” he added. “It’s disgusting for one. It seems that this was the only thing left on it.” The time stamp on the images showed it uploaded/taken in early December, while the console was purchased on the 23rd of December, meaning that the unit they had gotten was a returned product that someone had forgotten to wipe prior to returning it. Unfortunately Wal-Mart has yet to respond to this issue although we expect that the right thing to do is to offer a refund and maybe even gift a free and brand new console as a token of their apology, assuming they were at fault to begin with.
