4K for £4k: Samsung’s latest Ultra HDTVs arriving in the UK

4K for 4k Samsung's latest Ultra HDTVs arriving in the UK

If you’re in the mood for more pixels and have the pounds sterling to back it up, there’s good news: you’ll be able to grab Samsung’s 55- and 65-inch 4K TVs later this month in the UK. The smaller UE55F9000 model is going for £4,000 and the UE65F9000 will set you back a cool £6,000. While that’s a lot, it’s a far cry from Samsung’s first UHD TV, the 85-inch S9 model that ran a Fortune 500-level $40 grand (about £26,000). On top of the extra resolution, the new models will give you Samsung’s latest goodies like quad-core processing, Micro Dimming LED tech, 3D, built-in WiFi, and an embedded camera. You’ll also get an Evolution Kit that’ll let you upgrade to future UltraHD standards, if and when they come — though at that sum, we hope you won’t be left wanting for a long, long time.

LG unveils LA9700 series 4K Ultra HD LED 55-inch and 65-inch TVs

LG has announced an expansion to its ultra high-definition 4K line of TVs, this time with full-backlit LED 55-inch and 65-inch models. In addition, there has also been unveiled an 84-inch UHD model, which is the first to be made available to buyers in the United States. If you’re in the market for the 84-inch version, you’ll need to shell out a whopping $20,000 and head to LG’s Santa Monica retail store.

The 55-inch and 65-inch ultra high-definition TVs feature 4.1-channel 50-watt sound system that includes what LG calls a sliding speaker, which is mounted on a motorized sound bar that automatically surfaces beneath the panel. As for the display itself, LG used its Nano Full LED backlighting along with an IPS display.

The TVs feature a picture resolution of 3840 x 2160, as well as the Tru-Ultra HD engine that upscales content via a four-step process. In addition, the LA9700 utilized an H.265 HEVC (high-efficiency video coding) decoder, which will make the sets compatible with new 4K standards that may be implemented in the future for streaming and broadcast.

LG Electronics’ senior vice president Jay Vandenbree said: and head of LG’s U.S. home entertainment business. “When we brought the first Ultra HD TV to market last fall, consumer acceptance was surprisingly strong, considering that the 84-inch TV carried a $20,000 pricetag. Now, with a wider range of sizes at more attractive prices, even more consumers can enjoy the amazing picture clarity that Ultra HD TVs provide.”

In addition, the 55-inch and 65-inch models feature the Smart TV offering from LG, which provides features like Cinema 3D and Magic Remote for voice control. The smaller model has a suggested retail price of $5,999, says LG, while the 65-inch model has a suggested retail price of $7,999.

LG’s 55- and 65-inch 4K TVs go on sale in the US for $5,999 and $7,999

LG's 55 and 65inch 4K TVs go on sale in the US for $5,999 and $7,999

Thought Samsung had the US market for 65-inch Ultra HD televisions cornered? Think again. Hot on the heels of its competitor, LG has announced that its 55- and 65-inch UHD sets will sell for $5,999 and $7,999, respectively. They also pack a new feature — a powered 4.1 channel speaker bar that appears / disappears beneath the front lip of the TV. The prices aren’t chump change by any stretch of the imagination, but they’re certainly more affordable than LG’s last UHD TV: an 84-inch monster that sold for a staggering $19,999. Still, getting your hands on one isn’t easy — like its 84-inch set, LG’s latest screens are making their debut exclusively in southern California, and will eventually roll out to stores nationwide. Sure, driving out to Santa Monica to pick up a new TV might not be convenient, but at least it’s closer than South Korea — if you’re not in the US, the company expects to roll them out in the UK, Russia and Australia soon. Check out the company’s official announcement after the break.

Samsung F9000 UHD 4K TV series pricing and pre-order date unveiled

Samsung has unveiled the pricing and pre-order date for its Ultra High-Definition 4K TV F9000 series line of devices, which will start at $5,499 and will be available to pre-order on July 21. This follows in line with its S9 ultra high-definition TVs the Korean maker showed off earlier in 2013, and includes technology that will allow it to be compatible with new UHD standards that will come in the future.

The F9000 line of UHD 4K TVs will be available in 55-inch and 65-inch sizes, with the former having an estimated price of $5,499 and the latter at $7,499. Pre-ordering will go live on July 21 from “select authorized retailers” in the United States, while shipping is expected to begin at an unspecified date in early August.

Both of the models run on Samsung’s Quadmatic Picture Engine, which utilizes a four-step process for delivering images, which is comprised of noise minimization, upscaling to 4K, image enhancement of less-than-4K content, and signal analysis. The upscale conversion takes place for standard-definition content all the way up through full 1080p video feeds. As mentioned, there’s also compatibility with future 4K standards via the Evolution Kit.

The F9000 series features 2.2 channels of 2-way 70watt sound, an Ultra Slim Bezel, and Precision Black Local Dimming technology. The latter feature boosts black levels (as well as constrast) by dimming the darker areas of a picture selectively while leaving the lighter portions alone. There’s also a feature called Micro Dimming Ultimate, which works to enhance the contrast and sharpen the video feed.

As far as software goes, the F9000 TVs feature Samsung’s Smart TV with the Smart Hub interface, allowing for the use of apps, social networks, and more.

Samsung America’s Executive VP Joe Stinziano said: “Revolutionizing the home entertainment viewing experience is a hallmark of the Samsung brand. The F9000 series are Evolutionary TVs that will give consumers great peace of mind in their entertainment investment. Now home entertainment lovers will have the opportunity to truly see and enjoy their favorite shows and movies like never before, in crystal-clear ultra high-definition, and in the beautifully designed 55- and 65-inch sizes they demand.”

Samsung’s 65-, 55-inch Ultra HDTVs will ship to the US in August

After releasing its massive 85-inch UHD TV with a stunning $39,999 price in the US earlier this year, Samsung is ready to follow up with a few models that are more easily attainable. The 65- and 55-inch F9000 UHD TVs will carry US pricetags of $7,499 and $5,499, respectively, with pre-orders starting July 21st and shipments expected in early August. Samsung just began delivering these in its home country, and others like Sony, LG, Sharp and Toshiba are starting to offer 4K TVs in smaller sizes (not to mention value priced contenders like Seiki.) The F9000 series includes all of Samsung’s latest features like 3D, Micro Dimming Ultimate LED display, Wi-Fi and an embedded camera, plus support for Evolution Kit upgrades the company claims will let it keep pace with any future UHD standards.

Samsung ships its 55 and 65inch 4K TVs to Korea, slightly later than promised

If you’re one of the lucky 100-plus Koreans who pre-ordered one of Samsung’s F9000-series 4K TVs this June, you’ll be glad to know that you’re getting your reward very soon. The company has just announced that both the 55- and 65-inch F9000 sets should ship to Korea on July 6th. As before, the series is a more affordable yet functionally similar alternative to Samsung’s 85-inch behemoth — customers get the Ultra HD screen resolution and Evolution Kit support at relatively modest prices of 6.4 million won ($5,670) for the 55-inch TV and 8.9 million won ($7,913) for its 65-inch cousin. We’re still twiddling our thumbs waiting for a launch on this side of the Pacific, but those who need something to tide themselves over can read Samsung’s translated press release after the break.

Sharp intros 32-inch IGZO monitor with 4K resolution and pen support

Sharp intros 32inch IGZO monitor with 4K resolution and support for touch pen

The majority of the world is still patiently waiting for 4K technology to become more widely adopted, and companies are certainly doing all they can to assist in speeding up that process. Following in the footsteps of ASUS, Sharp’s now introducing an Ultra HD, IGZO panel of its own, the PN-K322B. Aside from boasting a 3,840 x 2,160 screen resolution, this 32-inch multi-touch monitor also features the ability to support digital writing (or drawing) by way of a “dedicated touch pen with a pen-tip width of just 2mm.” Ports-wise, the LED-backlit PN-K322B houses two HDMI inputs, a DisplayPort and a 3.5mm stereo jack to help get some external audio going. Mum’s the word on how much it’ll cost when it arrives in Japan on July 30th, but if other similar options are any indication, we’d say upwards of $3,500 is a safe bet.
