Pressy: the one-button Android controller so cool it was Kickstarted in under a day

DNP Pressy the onebutton Android controller so cool it was Kickstarted in under a day

If Kickstarter had a 24-hour funders club, Pebble and the Bolex Camera would be welcoming Pressy today. In under a day, the multifunction Android controller has more than doubled its $40,000 goal (raising $108,435 from 4,889 backers as of this writing) and with 45 days left to go, the numbers keep climbing. Perhaps its simplicity is what’s making it such a hit. Pressy plugs into any Android device’s headphone port (Gingerbread and above), and clicking its unobtrusive 0.7mm-tall button controls and automates any manner of your gizmo’s functions. Through its app you can assign a given task to a sequence of clicks; it’s up to you if it takes two short clicks to speed-dial your mom or one long press to snap an unobtrusive picture, for example. You can still use it if you have a pair of headphones in too, with the cans’ play button subbing in for control. Clever.

Unlike other Kickstarters, this isn’t some far-off prospect: Developer Nimrod Back has promised Pressy will be available within four months. A basic Pressy will set you back $17, for a choice of colors with a keychain storage sheath you’ll have to pony up $25. Oh, and if you fancy yourself a programmer and want the device’s API, then drop $1,000 and make that tier’s one other pledge less lonely.

[Thanks, Yaniv]

Mophie Juice Pack for Galaxy S 4 now shipping, brings an extra 2,300mAh battery for $99

Mophie Juice Pack for Galaxy S 4 now shipping, brings an extra 2,300mAh battery for $99

Galaxy S 4 users already benefit from solid battery life, but if your Life Companion has become more of a compulsion, you’re probably in need of a power solution that can go the distance. Naturally, one option is to swap out batteries, but a new charging case from Mophie could be a simpler route. The Juice Pack — also available for the HTC One and iPhone 5 — wraps around the phone and connects via micro-USB, adding an additional 2,300mAh cell to the 2,600mAh battery within the GS4. The Mophie Juice Pack is available now for $99, and is currently offered in black or white (with pink and red versions to follow). As an unfortunate consequence, the extra bulk prevents NFC functionality, but it could be a minor sacrifice if your phone’s battery life regularly comes up short.

Sketch it out: hands-on with Wacom’s Intuos Creative Stylus and retooled Bamboo Paper app

Sketch it out handson with Wacom's Inutos Creative Stylus and retooled Bamboo paper app

Last week, Wacom unveiled its latest tablet pen — the Intuos Creative Stylus — alongside a trio of Cintiq Companion standalone slates. The stylus is indeed a departure from the regular ol’ scribbling units that we’ve seen popping up all over. This time around, the Intuos Creative Stylus draws much of its look and feel from Wacom’s Pro Pen (or Cintiq Pen) with its on-board buttons, soft grip and recognizable shape. Of course, it wields the same 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity that we’ve seen on units included with Intuos and Cintiq models as of late, and connects to the latest Apple tablets via Bluetooth 4.0. All that sounds great, but as you might expect, it comes with a higher price. Is parting with $100 a safe bet in October or are you better off sticking with your current tools? Venture past the break for our initial impressions. %Gallery-slideshow73499%

Logitech announces Ultrathin Keyboard Folio, Folio Protective Case for iPad mini

DNP Logitech announces Folio and Folio keyboard for iPad mini

Logitech just can’t stop making keyboard cases for iPad minis, and its third set in six months includes the new Ultrathin Keyboard Folio, which melds familiar elements — water-repellant materials, Bluetooth connectivity — with a few novel ones. Namely, iOS shortcut keys for copying and pasting and a magnet system called SecureLock to keep your slate anchored. What the firm is claiming is its thinnest and lightest keyboard folio to date will cost you $89.99 — that’s the same price as March’s version, or $10 more than February’s model. Also fresh is the key-less Folio Protective Case that does double duty as a multi-position stand, and will sell for $49.99, about $10 over Apple’s own Smart Cover. The good news is that if you dig either of these, they’ll be available direct from the manufacturer later this month. If not? Well, there’s bound to be a different model or two by the end of next week.
