JBL speaker docks go Lightning for iPhone 5 and iPad mini

Two new lovely JBL docks have been revealed this week by Harman with the ability to connect to the newest wave of Apple mobile products – lighting style. These devices are the JBL OnBeat Micro and the JBL Venue LT, both of them ready for not just the iPhone 5, but the new iPod range, the updated 4th generation iPad, and the iPad mini as well. One is tiny, the other is slightly larger than tiny – both are high quality in both looks and sound.

The JLB OnBeat Micro starts at $99 USD and will be bringing on the smaller of the two dock sizes. This device is made to be small enough to fit into your purse or backpack and works with both an (included) AC adapter and batteries for wireless action. This dock charges any of the smaller Apple mobile devices on the market while they’re docked, but anything from the iPad mini and up is going to have a tough time as the shape does not allow. This device also has a built-in USB connector for powering and playing other portable devices as well.

The JBL OnBeat Venue LT works with a “hidden” lightning dock behind the JBL logo at its base. This unit is made to work with all of the Apple mobile devices in the newest range and has been described as “ideal” for the iPad mini and iPad 4th gen by Harman. This device works with Harman TrueStream Bluetooth wireless streaming technology, too – this means it’s able to connect with up to eight devices – like magic! This larger of the two devices will cost you $199 USD straight from the online JBL store.

Both devices are available immediately if not soon from your favorite JBL retailer and would be fabulous for that iPhone 5 owner friend of yours this holiday season. Keep that in mind, too, folks: we’re ramping up on the holiday season for 2012, this meaning we’ll be inundated with products left and right from here until the end of the year. Exciting times for all those who love gadgets galore!

DODOcase Introduces Custom Builder, Lets You Go All Artisanal Bookbinder On Your iPad Case

BrownLeat-Red-Red-Cubes-DE

You may not know this but I was an English literature major in college, so books are things I’m fond of. But I’m also a tech lover, so I generally read on either an iPad or a Kindle. Cases like the ones from San Francisco-based DODOcase represent a way to bridge those two worlds, and now you can personalize their products thanks to a custom case-building tool that DODOcase is introducing today.

The Build-A-DODOcase customizer is launching today, and lets you choose from a variety of options around the front cover material, color and pattern, as well as interior design, elastic color and custom text. There are plenty of different combinations possible, with the added benefit that you likely won’t end up with an exact duplicate of someone else’s design, so your iPad will be less likely to get confused with your neighbor’s at the local coffee shop.

The one I virtually created is the one you can see in the feature image of this article, and I hope to see it eventually as a real product. I trust DODOcase’s reputation for creating good products, though, and don’t think there’s any reason to expect these custom creations to miss that mark.

Pricing is variable based on what options you choose (leather vs. fabric cover or spine, for instance), running between $80 at the low end and ranging up as you add options. The company has already created a Pinterest gallery of creations from noteworthy creators, including Path’s Dave Morin, Foodspotting CEO Alexa Andrzejewski and more. If the only thing previously stopping you from ordering a DODOcase was a lack of choice when it comes to design, this new tool definitely addresses that deficiency. The cases work with both iPad 2 and the latest generation iPads.

Scosche is next up with Lightning accessories, brings chargers for iPads and iPhones alike

Scosche is next up with Lightningcompatible accessories, brings 5W and 12W chargers

If you’ve snagged one of Apple’s new iThings complete with 30-pin dock connector-replacing Lightning ports, Scosche is the next manufacturer (after Belkin) to offer up a compatible line of accessories. The variety of car and wall chargers come in several 12W and 5W variants, with the more powerful ones pushing enough juice to quick charge those fourth generation iPads and iPad minis. Of course, while they can provide design alternatives like multiple ports that Apple’s official hardware doesn’t cover, there’s not a price break coming with the cheapest strikeDRIVE car charger starting at $29.99, while the most expensive item listed is the strikeBase pro dual USB wall charger (pictured above) and lightning cable setup for $49.99. There’s more details at the source link if you’re interested in purchasing. Apple users let us know what your plan is — making do with just the one new charger, slapping on a $29 adapter, or sticking with old hardware for now / switching to a new platform to avoid the new connector altogether?

Marshall Major 50 FX headphones marks 50th anniversary

Marshall is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year with another set of headphones, only these are lined with gold trimmings. The Major 50 FX headphones are similar to the Major Pitch Black headphones that we reviewed over the summer, only these new ones comes with a few upgrades inside and out.

The Major 50 FX headphones are made for big sound (obviously), and the technology inside has received a slight boost from the previous Marshall Major headphones. The new headphones come with gold trimmings on the outside. The outer ear caps are lined with gold, and the Marshall logo in the center of the caps are gold as well.

The headband is made of vinyl and features the inscription “London England 1962″, which is the birth place and birth year of the Marshall amplifier brand. On top of the gold trimming and inscriptions, the Major 50 FX headphones are Apple certified, and include an inline microphone and remote, so they’ll work seamlessly with Apple’s numerous products.

The headphones also come with a canvas carrying bag — perfect for on-the-go audiophiles. The Marshall Major 50 FX headphones are available right now at a cost of $170. That’s definitely not a bad price to pay for top-quality headphones. Plus, if you like bling (and who doesn’t), then it’s practically a two-for-one deal.

The First Third-Party Lightning Accessories Are a Car Charger and a Stupid Dock

The authenticator chips in Apple’s new Lightning connectors put a stop to unauthorized third-party accessories, at least for a little while. In the meantime, authorized third-party accessories are on the way. The first pair are a car charge and a dock from Belkin. More »

Belkin fills the void with first third-party Lightning accessories for Apple devices

Belkin unveils first thirdparty accessories for Apple Lightning connectors

When Apple dropped the 30-pin connector in favor of Lightning for the iPhone 5, new iPods and new iPads, it also dropped much of the current accessory market: short of an expensive adapter, years of collecting docks and more exotic peripherals were for nought. Belkin is stepping into that vacuum with what it says are the first officially sanctioned third-party Lightning accessories. Neither its Charge + Sync Dock (seen at left) for the iPhone 5 nor its Car Charger for Lightning (right) are what we’d call revolutionary, but they both cover missing pieces of the puzzle — including Apple’s, as the tech firm skipped making an iPhone dock of its own for this generation. Should either the audio-supporting dock or the iPad-capable charger sound appealing, both are up for pre-orders today and will ship in mid-November for $30.

Belkin unveils first third-party Lightning accessories

Ever since Apple unveiled their new Lightning connector with the release of the iPhone 5, users have been waiting patiently (some more than others) for third-party Lightning accessories to make the rounds. However, after almost a month and a half since the Lightning connector’s public debut, they’re finally here. Belkin is the first official company to be signed off by Apple to make third-party Lightning accessories.

Today, Belkin announced two new accessories that utilize Apple’s new Lightning connector. The Charge + Sync Dock is an iPhone 5 dock that offers a foldaway auxiliary jack and a hidden cable channel that hides your Lightning cable and feeds it to the back of the dock. It also has a removable magnetic base and an audio-out port for headphones or speakers.

Belkin also announced an updated hard-wired car charger for Lightning devices that churns out 10 watts/2.1 amps, which means it can also be used to charge up your new 4th-gen iPad while you’re on your way to work. It has a 4-foot long cable and the charger includes over-voltage protection. It’s compatible with all Apple devices that use the new Lightning connector.

Both of these accessories are available for pre-order right now for $29.99 each, and will begin shipping on November 15. However, these aren’t the only two Lightning accessories you’ll see from Belkin. The company has committed to releasing more Lightning accessories in the future, including several more later this year.
