Iconia W3 tablet live on Acer’s Finnish website, confirms 8.1 inches of Windows 8 Pro
Posted in: Today's ChiliInfo about the Iconia W3 Windows 8 tablet has already slipped out a few times, and now this 8.1-incher is live on Acer’s Finnish website. While there’s no mention of price or availability, the specifications list matches what’s already been leaked. You’re looking at Windows 8 Pro running atop an Intel Atom Z2760 CPU, aided by 2GB of RAM. Other features include a 1,280 x 768 touchscreen, an eight-hour battery, up to 64GB of storage, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. Port lovers will be pleased to find micro-HDMI and micro-USB hookups onboard, as well as a microSD slot. Microsoft Word comes pre-installed, but there’s no concrete info about the optional full-size keyboard dock — other than that it exists, anyway. It’ll likely be closer to June when we’ll be staring at it in the flesh, so you’ll have to settle for the info at the source link for now.

Acer’s Iconia W3, the first 8-inch Windows 8 tablet, has quietly cropped up at the company’s site, confirming the smaller slate and promising a full eight hours of runtime. Rumored since April, the Acer Iconia W3-810 is now listed on the company’s Finnish site, running full Windows 8 Pro on an Intel Atom Z2760 processor and with an 8.1-inch WXGA screen.
That chip is paired with 2GB of RAM and up to 64GB of flash storage. The Clover Trail chip has Intel GMA 3650 graphics, driving the 1280 x 768 WXGA multitouch display.
Connectivity includes WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and a micro USB 2.0 port; there’s also a microHDMI output for hooking up an external display. A 2-megapixel webcam is also included.
That Bluetooth connection could be used for hooking up a wireless keyboard, but Acer will also offer a detachable keyboard dock into which the Iconia W3 will slot. The snap-on ‘board is wider than the tablet itself, which means Acer can include full-sized keys.
Acer will offer two variants of the W3, at least initially. The W3-810-27602G03nsw has 32GB of flash storage, while the W3-810-27602G06nsw doubles that to 64GB. Either way, that’s not huge for a Windows 8 tablet; Microsoft’s Surface Pro, for instance, starts off at the 64GB level, and offers 128GB as a more expensive option.
Exactly what the W3 will cost is still unclear at this stage. However, it’s possible that the small tablet will make its official debut in a few weeks time at Computex, held in early June.
Thanks quadtronix!

Acer Aspire S7 Review (S7-391-6413)
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe Acer Aspire S7 was introduced by the company nearly a year ago in June 2012 as one of the company’s first touchscreen ultrabooks, and by far one of their best to date as it included a Full HD display, is made of a mixture of aluminum, white plastic and glass and comes with either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor.
For the sake of this review, we decided to review the mid-range S7-391-6413 in order to get a good understanding of what the Aspire S7 is all about without having to gush over how powerful the Intel Core i7 processor is as this model has a pretty strong Intel Core i5 processor clocked at 1.8GHz. So without further ado, let’s take a look at how the Acer Aspire S7 did in our review.

We recently got our hands on the Acer Iconia A1, which is the company’s upcoming Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean tablet which has yet to be released, and we’re already hearing about its next Android tablet, the Iconia A3.
The news comes from Acer’s senior vice president Scott Lin as he recently confirmed a new 10-inch tablet will be arriving this summer, which will be known as the Iconia A3. Lin didn’t go into specifics on what exactly the Iconia A3 will include, but he did say he hopes it will help make up some of the 10 million slates Acer plans to sell this year.
Saying the Iconia A3 will help Acer sell 10 million slates this year is a little ambitious considering we don’t even know what it’ll feature and how it’ll set itself apart from everyone else’s 10-inch tablet. We don’t even know if it’ll be an Android or Windows tablet, so we guess we’ll just have to wait until the summer rolls around to hear more about the Iconia A3.

Acer confirms 10-inch Iconia A3 tablet, wants to sell 10 million slates this year
Posted in: Today's ChiliAcer’s senior VP Scott Lin recently confirmed that a new 10-inch Iconia A3 tablet will arrive this summer and was quick to include it in some very ambitious sales plans. The device (not pictured) has yet to be priced or specced (or even seen), but nonetheless, Lin hopes it’ll make up some of the 10 million slates the outfit aims to sell in 2013. He also announced a refresh for the $150 Iconia B1 this summer with a dual-core CPU, updated design and 1GB of RAM, and said that 1.5 million units of that model have shipped so far this year. The company would like to move another 1.5 million by year’s end along with 5 million of the recently announced 8-inch Iconia A1 tabs and 2 million Iconia A3s to make up the balance. Considering that competitor ASUS sold 3 million tablets in Q1 and has the hit Nexus 7 to peddle, it seems a lofty goal for Acer — especially since it only reluctantly leaped into tablets not so long ago.
Update: We’ve also received word that Mr. Lin confirmed that there is an 8-inch Windows 8 tablet in the works (the W3, perhaps?) and suggested it should be available by June.

As the computer market continues to struggle, some continue to point to Microsoft and its lackluster Windows 8 and Windows RT operating systems as a major reason for the struggles. While there are several tablet makers who have launched devices running Windows RT, the tablets have proven to be relatively unpopular. Acer is one of Microsoft’s software partners and the company has a number of tablets and notebooks running software from Microsoft.
Acer president Jimmy Wong said last Friday at an event in New York that “the plan for the RT tablet is ongoing.” Acer had previously planned to launch a tablet running Windows RT software in Q2 of 2013. However those plans have now been put on hold.
Wong said, “To be honest, there’s no value doing the current version of RT.” Acer plans for now to continue focusing on Windows 8 and Android tablets. The company recently unveiled a new Android-powered tablet at $169 called the Iconia A1. Acer is planning additional support for devices running Windows 8 and Wong predicts sales for devices running the operating system will be better in the second half of 2013.
Acer currently predicts that 25% of its tablet business will come from devices running Windows 8. Wong also noted that he believes the Windows 8 market is starting to pick up after a slow start. The major focus for Acer will be hybrid devices featuring products such as laptops with screens that can be used as tablets separately.

Acer says no value in a Windows RT tablet is written by Shane McGlaun & originally posted on SlashGear.

Ever since Acer’s Linxian Lang said that Microsoft would eat “hard rice” for building its own Windows RT hardware, the company has treated the operating system with something bordering on contempt. When asked about Acer’s long-gestating RT device, Acer president Jim Wong said “to be honest, there’s no value doing [hardware for] the current version of RT.” Given the underwhelming interest in RT gear that other companies have reported, we’re not sure if Wong’s comments qualify as a sick burn or merely kicking an adolescent piece of software when it’s down.
