For a few years now we have been hearing rumors about Amazon working on a smartphone. It hasn’t materialized up till now, and the company hasn’t hinted any plans of entering the smartphone market. Earlier this week chatter from Asia based supply chain predicted that the Amazon smartphone will be released later this year. Over the past few months there have been a lot of rumors about the devices that Amazon is believed to be working on. Some say that the company is building a game console, others believe that perhaps its working on a set top box. For over a year now it has been rumored that Amazon is looking to get into the smartphone game. Its expected to build one that would run a highly forked version of Android, like its Kindle tablets. While nothing concrete has materialized, recent rumors suggest that the Amazon smartphone release is slated for this year.

Word on the street has it that Amazon could be planning a set top box of their own which would compete against devices like Roku and Apple TV. Given that Amazon currently offers video content, we guess it would not be a complete stretch of the imagination to think that they might release a product dedicated to it, right?
However the question we have to ask is when will Amazon arrive with a set top box of their own? Well according to a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, they are claiming that come first week of April, we can expect to hear an announcement by Amazon.
