Amazon could let Londoners pick up their packages from Tube stations

London’s Tube network is about to face some major changes that will not only affect its staff and passengers, but also — perhaps — Amazon shoppers. Plans are already afoot to shut down manned ticket offices across the Underground by 2015, in order to pay for 24-hour operation on major lines. Now, according to the Financial Times, Amazon is in talks with Tube bosses to find a way to turn all those abandoned little cubicles into pick-up points for packages instead. The idea seems plausible, given Amazon’s other efforts to change the way deliveries are handled, but the retailer hasn’t yet confirmed the FT‘s report. There’s also plenty of scope for such a project to become unstuck — not least as a result of promised industrial action by Tube workers, who want avoid job losses and keep ticket offices just as they are.

Amazon Tells BlackBerry Users To ‘Enjoy’ Its Appstore

Amazon Tells BlackBerry Users To Enjoy Its Appstore

BlackBerry has often been criticized for the gaping app gap its new BB10 platform has with rival platforms like iOS and Android. The Canadian manufacturer already allows customers to sideload Android applications on their smartphones, and while it was recently rumored that perhaps it may also add the Google Play Store, BlackBerry has denied that its going down that road. However, the next BB10 OS update will not only bring an improved Android runtime, it will also bring the ability to install APK files on the device itself using file manager or the browser.

Those running a leaked BB 10.2.1 OS version report that they’ve been able to install apps from Amazon Appstore. Amazon has said that while the Appstore doesn’t support BlackBerry devices, those who can install apps from it can feel free to “enjoy” it. A BlackBerry 10 user wrote to Amazon regarding support for BlackBerry 10 devices. The company says that the Appstore isn’t officially supported on any BB device but “if you are getting the service please enjoy it.” Furthermore, the company also says that by using Appstore, BB users are not violating any law. However, it users run into issues with the app, they will have to contact the developer directly as the Appstore can not intervene due to lack of official support. So if the final version of BB 10.2.1 OS includes the ability to install APK files directly, BlackBerry 10 users will be opened up to a whole new world of apps that they’ve desperately been craving.

Amazon Appstore for Android joins the modern era with a slicker interface

    Amazon Appstore

The Amazon Appstore has long been clunky and slow for anyone who doesn’t own a Kindle Fire tablet — even for basics like app updates. All that pain is now a distant memory, however, as Amazon has just overhauled the stand-alone Appstore for Android with a genuinely modern interface. The new client has sidebar-driven navigation that feels at home in the KitKat era, and it’s much faster when browsing titles. If you’ve been ignoring Amazon’s alternative storefront for a while, it may be worth returning for a second look.

Xbox One Day One Units Sold Out At Amazon

Xbox One Day One Units Sold Out At Amazon

Those who are following Xbox One news religiously might have heard that Amazon had released a last batch of Xbox One Day One pre-orders, which comes with a guarantee that the console will reach your doorstep on November 22nd, the day that Xbox One is finally released. The Day One units come with a commemorative controller, premium packaging and a code which unlocks the Day One achievement. While the retailers have sold out of their launch day batches, Amazon apparently had a few more up its sleeve. So the retailer offered customers a last chance to get their pre-orders in as soon as they opened up today at 8 a.m. EDT.

Amazon didn’t reveal exactly how many units it had in the batch, but it seems like there weren’t an awful lot of them, as the last batch of Xbox One Day One units has now been sold out. Customers who weren’t lucky enough to get their pre-order in will now have to wait, or they can head to the nearest Microsoft Store on launch day. The company has confirmed that Microsoft Stores will have extra Xbox One units on November 22nd to cater to the intense demand, so you can take your chances by lining up outside a store.
