Grand Theft Auto V pre-orders ship early, Amazon UK learns crime doesn’t pay

Amazon hijacks GTA V shipment embargo

Amazon could find itself struck off Rockstar Games’ Christmas card list after it delivered Grand Theft Auto V preorders to customers in the UK in advance of its September 17th release. Some customers reported receiving shipping notifications over the weekend, with additional reports suggesting the game had made it to some doorsteps as early as Saturday. Games Industry says that the company is already investigating these early sales, although we wouldn’t put it past some silent, rogue type like Claude from GTA 3. Microsoft is reportedly banning Xbox Live accounts belonging to those that shared early footage of the game, so if you did receive an early copy, make sure to refrain from sharing your impressive bank heists on social media and video sites until release day.

New Kindle Fire HD 2 image leaks

Last week some details surfaced of new Kindle Fire tablets that are in the works, but haven’t yet been announced. That link brought with it some hardware details. This week another image of the tablet has been leaked, and this time it’s the front, not the back that we saw last week. The photo appears […]

Alleged Amazon Kindle Fire Press Render Leaked

Alleged Amazon Kindle Fire Press Render LeakedWe did catch a glimpse of an alleged next generation Amazon Kindle Fire HD image that was leaked out, but this time around, the folks over at @evleaks seem to have something better up their sleeves – by introducing what seems to be an official render of a potential new Amazon Kindle Fire hardware refresh. The alleged press image that you see above does seem to jive with other leaks in the past concerning bezel size and design, but it does seem to miss out on the front-facing camera that Amazon placed with the introduction of the Kindle Fire HD.

This would certainly raise suspicions that the alleged press render happens to be a non-HD model of Amazon’s upcoming tablet. Whispers on the street have it that the flagship model will arrive with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution display, where there will be a camera in front as well as an operating system which is said to be based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Now, if only Amazon would be able to share something official from their press room in order to quell and squash any speculation out there. Alternatively, this kind of “free publicity” might prove to work in Amazon’s favor, or any other manufacturer’s for that matter, when it comes to an upcoming device, right?

Leaked Kindle Fire render lends credence to incoming refresh

Leaked Kindle Fire render lends credence to incoming refresh

The case for an incoming Kindle Fire update seems to be getting stronger every day — not only have we seen benchmarks and alleged photos of the device, but now @evleaks seems to have come across an official render. The purported press image matches previous leaks in bezel size and design, but lacks the front-facing camera Amazon introduced with the Kindle Fire HD. This leads us to suspect that the render is of a non-HD model of Bezos’ latest tablet. The flagship model is rumored to have a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, the aforementioned camera upfront and an OS based on Android 4.2.2. We’re still waiting for Amazon to give the official word of course, but for Kindle users waiting for an upgrade, it’s something to salivate over.

GameStick launch pushed once more, now arrives on October 29th

The second Kickstarter-funded, Android-powered gaming console to arrive this year — PlayJam’s GameStick — is being delayed once again, this time to October 29th. Folks who backed the game console on Kickstarter will get it earlier in the month, with shipments arriving “three to four weeks before retail.” The rest of us can pick it up at GameStop, Amazon or GAME (for you UKers), and it’ll cost the expected $79.99 / £79.99.

You may’ve noticed we didn’t list that price in Euros, and that’s because the console is launching in the US and UK first, with the rest of the EU, Canada and Middle Eastern territories getting GameStick “prior to the end of year holiday season.” PlayJam CEO Jasper Smith chocks this (third!) delay up to “stringent QA” standards at the company, and PlayJam responding to the criticisms it heard from early beta testers. “Production delays are certainly frustrating, but in certain instances they’re essential,” Smith told Engadget. “There were some issues there that we thought needed to be solved, there were some issues that came out of watching what others had done, that meant that we should solve some other issues. So the unfortunate result is that pushed things back.”

Smith cited various usability issues, from “the way games were being submitted” to “the way that the games actually played,” as fixed problems. “On TV you’ve gotta make it so it’s easy for people to get in and out of a game, start again and all that stuff. And I hope that we’ve done a reasonably good job on that.” We hope so too, and we’ll find out soon — keep an eye out for a review of GameStick in the coming weeks on Engadget.

Amazon’s refreshed Kindle Fire HD allegedly leaked in new photos

DNP Amazon's refreshed Kindle Fire HD leaked in new photos

According to the folks at BGR, you’re looking at Amazon’s next iteration of the Kindle Fire HD. While it isn’t the first we’ve heard of the forthcoming tablet, it is the first we’ve seen, should these pictures prove to be authentic. There are a few obvious design changes, including the angular (and somewhat chunky) shape and the relocated power and volume buttons, which are now situated on the back of the device. BGR has only provided photos of the 7-inch version, but it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to expect something similar from the anticipated 8.9-inch model. If the benchmarks we came across last month are any indication, we can expect — at least on the larger tablet — a Snapdragon 800 SoC, Adreno 330 GPU and an improved display (2,560 x 1,600 for the 8.9-inch screen). To see more photos, head on over to the source link below.
