Amazon Studios is hell-bent on developing movies and TV series, and on top of script submissions, it’s now asking filmmakers to send in 2-15 minute long shorts to pitch their feature-length film ideas. Those would serve as a foundation for your project and “express an idea that’s begging to be seen on the big-screen, in full-length, full-budget form,” according to the division’s Hollywonk blog. Amazon Studios will spend 45 days evaluating each submission, and those added to the development slate will receive $10,000. After that, you’ll get put into the development pipeline, which could get you paid writing and directing opportunities, guidance and feedback from partners like Warner Bros., and up to $400,000 if your baby hits theaters. Private submissions are welcome, but if you’re feeling brave, you can also post it for the world to see — hit the source or More Coverage link for more info.

You might be able to knock one password off your list, as you now have the option to log in to your Lovefilm account using Amazon credentials. The changeover is part of the online retail giant’s recently announced Login With Amazon initiative, intended to let you use a universal ID for its other websites or those of third party developers. To switch, you’ll need to follow the link at the source and enter both your Lovefilm and Amazon details, and may need to re-enter payment info as well. The company promised that your private data will remain “completely safe,” and said that any rental lists, bookmarks, viewing history and watchlists will stay put. On the off-chance you’re on Lovefilm but don’t have an Amazon account, the company wouldn’t be adverse to your creating one at the same time, in case you fancy physical disc media to go along with the streaming variety. That’s not the only change Lovefilm users may notice however, as the service has rolled out versions of its next generation streaming app — first seen on the PS3 — for the Xbox 360 as well as Sony Bravia TVs, Blu-ray players and home theater systems.

Amazon optimizes MP3 store for iOS devices in the UK, makes it easier to access tunes
Posted in: Today's Chili
Just as it did earlier this year here in the States, Amazon has now quietly announced that it’s brought some HTML5 tweaks to its UK-based MP3 store in order to make it more friendly with iDevices. Thanks to these under-the-hood enhancements, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users in the United Kingdom can now have access to more options within the web version of Amazon’s music shop — you know, things like downloading and streaming songs. Naturally, once you’ve purchased some tunes, they’ll automatically be added to the Cloud Player, where they can then be played from any other compatible device (e.g. Sonos systems or an Android tablet / smartphone). You can check out the optimized Amazon MP3 hub over at the source below.

Amazon Video Games Store Xbox One And PlayStation 4 Pre-Orders Top 2,500 Per Minute Following E3
Posted in: Today's ChiliAmazon has seen a significant amount of interest in upcoming next-generation consoles, with pre-orders for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 skyrocketing in the wake of E3 and their initial availability on the site. The pre-order volume broke records for the Amazon Video Games store, resulting in a 4,000 percent year-over-year increase vs. console pre-orders during E3 last year.
In just the first day of pre-orders alone, the Xbox One and PS4 managed to rack up nearly twice the value of total sales made via the video game store on Amazon throughout all of Black Friday in 2012, which is traditionally the top shopping day of the year in the U.S. Demand for the two new consoles was so strong that at peak volume, orders were coming through at a rate in excess of 2,500 units per minute, Amazon tells us.
In typical Amazon fashion, the company isn’t revealing specifics about how many total pre-orders have been processed so far, but the company is saying in no uncertain terms that there’s ample demand. The Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 occupy two of the top three spots in the Amazon Best Sellers list for Video Games, for instance (critical smash hit The Last of Us occupies spot two). Additionally, retail store pre-orders of the consoles appear to be strong, too, with some locations selling out of the Xbox One quickly following Microsoft’s decision to reverse its position on used games and DRM.
Relative increases and high order per minute are all well and good, but the real story will be how many of these things actually ship. Nintendo had strong initial sales of the Wii U, but sales quickly tapered off after the holiday season and are basically on life support. But at least based on these figures, there’s still plenty of juice left in the old console market for now.
