Hasta La Gadget!

We just got to spend a few minutes with the HTC Inspire 4G, one of the new AT&T 4G devices announced here at CES. Unfortunately, the particular unit on hand here didn’t have a battery, but since it’s rocking Android 2.2 with Sense, the software experience shouldn’t be too different from HTC’s other offerings. That 3.6 4.3-inch WVGA display eats up most of this slim phone’s facade, and there’s a fairly pronounced lens for that 8 megapixel shooter around back. We actually heard HTC reps chatting about how the software is still not finalized and AT&T needs to sign off, which could be part of the reason no batteries could be found. We’ll do our best to follow up later in the show, but for now feast your eyes on some glorious hardware shots in our gallery below.

Well, would you look at what we found hanging around Toshiba’s CES kick-off party. Okay, so Tosh’s still unnamed tablet wasn’t running Honeycomb like the final unit will, but Toshiba’s loaded Android 2.2 on there to give us a better idea of how it will work when it’s finally ready. There’s really not much we can say that we didn’t already say before — it’s still a very nicely made tablet and we’re really digging that rubberized back. As for the screen, the viewing angles were quite wide and Toshiba showed off its Resolution +, which will enhance video or photos on the fly to make them look more HDish. We just had our first in-depth experience with the Vizio Tablet, the company’s opening overture into the world of Android slates, and we’ve got to say — we like what we see. The device — which was just announced Monday afternoon along with the company’s new smartphone, the Vizio Phone — is still rather unfinished (the model we looked at was a hand-built device), but based on this early look, the company is moving down the right roads. We had a good chance to play around with the tablet, and we’ve got all the details, specs, and an in-depth video after the break!

Texting while driving is deadly, for serious. But, letting someone else read to you is rather less risky, and talking isn’t so bad either — in moderation, anyway. Bring those two together and you have OnStar‘s solution, an upcoming Bluetooth app that will read text messages and status updates to you and, somewhat more interestingly, lets you speak a custom message that will be transcribed to your recipient. Fascinating? Absolutely, but we can’t wait to hear what sort of fun and cheeky mistranslations come out of that feature. You can also post voice messages to Facebook and say things like “call back” to return a call. The app is, as of now, intended for Android devices only and is set to hit the Market sometime in the first half of the year, and at least initially it’ll only work on cars that have Bluetooth or those equipped with the company’s new aftermarket mirror, though you’ll have to be paid up on your OnStar dues if you want to use it. What, you didn’t forget about the Cliq series, did you? The followup to Motorola and T-Mobile’s slider’s been long rumored — we heard a few morsels of information back in September — and now CellPhoneSignal has a few pics of what it claims is the Begonia, aka Cliq 2 (for T-Mobile, naturally). The keyboard here is, well, interesting, to say the least, and there’s also apparently a five megapixel camera on the back. We’re not really sure how our thumbs feel about the layout, but if this is legit, we’d reckon they’ll get to try it out themselves sooner or later. That’s what giant gadget trade shows are for, right? Right. More pictures via the source link.
