Pandigital’s SuperNova Android tablet gets its FCC on, leaves little to the imagination

Pandigital's SuperNova 8-inch Android tablet gets its FCC on, leaves little to the imagination

Typically, when a new gadget makes its way through the FCC, we have to do a fair amount of digging to get to the juicy details, put Pandigital’s latest 8-inch tablet / e-reader, the SuperNova, isn’t holding anything back. This Android 2.3-powered slate follows in the footsteps of its 9-inch predecessor, the Novel, acting more as a glorified e-reader than a real-deal tablet. Like the Novel, it comes with B&N’s Nook app pre-installed and lacks access to the Android Market — apps can be downloaded via SlideMe. What’s more, it’s got front (0.3 megapixel) and back-facing (3 megapixel) cameras, 4GB of internal storage, HDMI and mini-USB connectivity, support for 32GB micro-SD, and an 8-inch capacitive touch screen. Just about the only things missing from this FCC filing are price and availability, but we have a feeling the pair isn’t far behind. If SAR reports and tablet entrails are your thing, you can peek even more SuperNova details at the source link below.

HTC Wildfire S swaggers CDMA bands at FCC

True to its namesake, the Wildfire S is preparing to blaze across our native prairies without abandon. After gaining the FCC’s nod of acceptance for use on our 1900 / 850MHz HSPA bands — followed by T-Mobile’s official announcement — the fun-sized candybar has received FCC approval for igniting our CDMA networks. A leaked roadmap suggests the Gingerbread treat is destined for US Cellular in October, but don’t be surprised if the little guy appears at Cricket, MetroPCS, Virgin Mobile, and the like. Even Verizon could benefit from the Wildfire S, seeing that the Motorola Citrus is downright sour. Just promise not to name it the Droid Burn, okay?

Android Market update reportedly rolling out to the dessert-themed faithful

Android Market
Fans of frozen, cultured dairy products and holiday cookies, it’s time to get your handsets ready — that new, not-so-shiny Android Market appears to be making its way to users now. Both our inbox and the Twitterverse are afire with news that the redesigned market is delivering, not just apps, but books and movies to Android phones across the US as you’re reading this. Of course, as we’ve already mentioned, you could just skip the waiting game and start perusing the Editor’s Choice section right now by downloading and manually installing the APK. If you don’t remember why you’re supposed to be excited, check out the video after the break.

Gingerbread comes to T-Mobile G2x, users feel loved again

Dost our eyes deceive us, or are genuine, bona fide Gingerbread updates for the T-Mobile G2x taking to the airwaves? We’re inclined to believe the latter, since the T-Mobile support site announced that the OTA download is now underway. The rollout begins less than a day after the refresh became available as a manual install via the LG Updater Tool. As if this isn’t enough proof already, our inboxes have been flooded by G2x users who’ve personally witnessed Hades freeze over on their handset. Haven’t seen it show up on yours yet? Fret not, getting these updates out to everyone takes time. But if you were an eager beaver who managed to beef your phone up with Android 2.3.3 manually, go ahead and relax; grab a lemonade, dust off the ol’ hammock, and enjoy the rest of the summer afternoon free of (virtual) bugs.

Mysterious Samsung shows up in dev center sporting Gingerbread and 1280 x 768 screen

SHV-E120S

Hello, and welcome to another edition of Mystery Cellphone Theater. This week’s enigma comes to us courtesy of T Store, a Korean app market, where the Developer Center lists an unannounced Samsung device with the model number SHV-E120S. Now, we can’t tell you much about the E120S, only that it reports to sport a WXGA screen (that’s 1280 x 768), Gingerbread, and a single-core MSM8250 Snapdragon. Sammy has a Korea-only handset with the SHV-E110S tag and a more standard 800 x 480 screen, and the company has made no secret about its desire to push pixel density well beyond the 300ppi mark — still, there’s no guarantee this is in fact a phone. It very well may be a tablet, or just a strange report from an emulator. Regardless, we’re intrigued, and keeping our fingers crossed for 4.3-inch HD display.

ASUS Eee Pad SL101 slides through the FCC, still misses promised May release

Sure, it’s not unusual for gadgets to miss their shipping targets, suffering months-long delays as they jump through the varies hoops necessary before a release. Fortunately, ASUS can now check FCC approval off the Eee Pad Slider’s to do list, with the Honeycomb QWERTY tablet receiving a green light from the feds late last week. ASUS has already confirmed August availability in the UK (after previously promising a May ship date), so we can only hope that the same timeframe applies stateside as well. We’re also curious to see whether or not ASUS was able to use this unexpected delay to beef up supplies, so the Slide doesn’t suffer a hangup similar to that of its Transformer cousin. The company has yet to confirm Slider pricing in the U.S., though we imagine those details will be revealed along with a shipping date within the next few weeks.

AT&T confirms Gingerbread coming to entire 2011 Android lineup (and Samsung Captivate)

The HTC Status was the only device with Gingerbread on AT&T’s lineup for a small slice of time, but that’s quickly coming to an end. The carrier has confirmed that Android 2.3 will be pushed to its entire 2011 postpaid lineup, beginning with an OTA rollout of the Motorola Atrix 4G today (though and the HTC Inspire 4G “in the coming weeks.” In addition to the phones released this year, Samsung Captivate users will be able to enjoy the upgrade as well. There’s no hard details on the timing for everyone else, but at least anyone with a 2011 model can breath a sigh of relief. Full press release can be found after the break.

Andy Pad Pro gets detailed while Andy Pad makes film debut (video)

Andy Pad
Low-cost Android, actually looking decent? Seems like it. We’ve caught wind of a few hitting the scene at this point, and there’s little question that the Andy Pad folks appear to have something better in mind. The company’s been slowly releasing info on Twitter about its 7-inch Andy Pad and Pro variant, and has also recently updated its website; the AP Pro’s finally been priced for £179 (about $290) and there’s now a full shot of the slates along with specs. While we knew the Pro would have a capacitive touchscreen and front / rear cams, those “additional features” have panned out to be an increased 1024 x 600 screen resolution and Bluetooth connectivity (it seems the 16GB model was this version all along). Still aching to see one in action? AP’s also posted a YouTube clip of the base model zipping along and effortlessly hurling Angry Birds through its Gingerbread scented air. It’ll still be about month until the duo hit the streets, but for now, you’ll find the video past the break.
