The AOC E1659FWU will become available from mid-October for 14,800 Yen (about $150). [Product Page]
AOC introduced a USB monitor a few years ago which was lightweight and featured a built-in USB port that would both receive power and its signal through the use of plug-and-play. It now looks like AOC is releasing a brand-new USB-powered monitor, but instead of being a full-fledged display, the company has made it more of a secondary display.
The AOC e1659Fwu features a 16-inch 1366 x 768 resolution display and a USB 3.0 connection which, just like with the previous USB monitor, can be used to power the monitor as well as act as a secondary display. The monitor offers a 500:1 contrast ratio, 5ms response time and has a foldable flexi-stand that allows the display to be viewed in either landscape or portrait mode. The AOC e1659Fwu is also extremely lightweight and portable, which comes with a carrying case as well as a VESA 75 x 75mm Mount Compliment feature that allows you to easily mount the USB monitor on your wall.
If you’re interested in adding a slim, USB-powered monitor to your current setup, the AOC e1659Fwu is currently available on Amazon for $129.99, which seems like a pretty fair price considering the monitor will be used as a secondary display for the most part.

AOC USB Add-on Monitor Slims Down
Posted in: Today's ChiliA couple of years back, AOC released a compact USB-powered secondary display which could be easily used to extend your computer’s desktop. The $130 display was a pretty good deal then, and now AOC has improved a few features of the original with its recently released e1659Fwu portable display.
The updated display measures just 0.9″ thick vs. the 1.4″ thick original. The new model has a smartly-designed folding stand which lets you use it in either portrait or landscape modes in a snap. It’s also got standard VESA mount holes this time around. In addition, it transfers data to the screen via a fast USB 3.0 connection, vs. the USB 2.0 connection of the original.
The 15.6″ display still offers 1366×768 resolution though, and I was hoping they might bump it up to HD resolution this time. Still, it’s a handy thing to throw in your bag if you need extra display space, or if you want to mirror your primary display for presentations. To use it, simply connect it to your PC’s USB port and it works like an extra display. Mac users will need to install the latest DisplayLink driver to make it work though.
You can find the AOC e1659Fwu portable USB-powered display over at Amazon for $129.99(USD). If you don’t mind the added thickness of the original, it’s available for just $90 now.
AOC has introduced their latest mobile LCD monitor, the E1659FWU. Adopting the DisplayLink technology, this new 15.6-inch LED-backlight monitor provides 1366 x 768 native resolution, 500:1 contrast ratio, 200 cd/m2 brightness and 8ms response time. It also comes with a foldable flexi-stand for viewing in landscape or portrait mode and features a USB 3.0 connection interface for power input. The E1659FWU will begin shipping from August for $139. [AOC]
A lot of us could use a second display nowadays, but if you travel a lot and rely on your laptop to get a lot of work done, not only are you limited to a small screen, but it’s hard to take a second display around with you. However, AOC just outed a new 16-inch monitor that is powered by only a single USB 3.0 cable.
The AOC E1659FWU, as it’s officially called aims to be the portable monitor to cater towards road warriors while still providing a large enough display to get work done. Sadly, it only has a 1366×768 resolution, which is pretty poor for a 15.6-inch viewable monitor, but we’re guessing AOC wanted to keep the price down, seeing as how it only costs $129.
At 16 inches, the monitor will be able to fit into most carrying bags, and it even comes with its own protective case, so there’s no worries about scratching the display while you’re toting it around, or worrying about having to find a cloth to wrap around it.
Since the monitor is powered by USB, as well as used for the video transmission, there’s no battery that users will have to keep charging. The monitor only pulls seven watts of power, but you’ll have to make sure your laptop has USB 3.0 before you go out buy this new display, as it won’t work over USB 2.0.
The new display is available for pre-order right now on Amazon, but if you’re looking to save a little bit of cash, AOC also still has the previous-generation display up on Amazon, which only costs $89 and is available now. The new monitor isn’t shipping until August 5.
