Research firm Gartner has posted some very interesting numbers looking at the overall app market around the world for 2013. According to the company, there will be 102 billion app downloads globally during 2013. That 102 billion downloads will also generate billions and billions of dollars in sales. Gartner says that $26 billion in sales […]
Amid the excitement for the release of Grand Theft Auto 5, we have a feeling you may have forgotten iOS 7 will be released to select iOS devices starting tomorrow. Since not every iOS device will be able to upgrade to iOS 7, Apple is making sure you’re able to download the absolute last compatible version of an application so you don’t run into any issues with your aging iOS devices.
The new feature prompts you to download the last compatible version of an application if the latest version isn’t compatible with the current version of iOS you have running. If you happen to have an iPhone that is below an iPhone 4, you’ll certainly get some use out of this feature, although at this point, we would seriously encourage you to upgrade your device to something a little more modern.
Seeing how the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S are releasing on September 20, we think now would be a great time for you to use your hard-earned upgrade, although if you have been carrying around an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS for this long, we’re sure you’ll once again completely ignore the latest iPhone.

With iOS 7 due to land tomorrow
With iOS 7 arriving tomorrow, Apple is extending some love to the owners of older iOS devices that have been left behind. New compatibility features, first spotted on Reddit, will now kick into action if you attempt to download an app that is not supported by your current firmware. Instead, the company now asks if you’d like to install the last compatible version, which, for some apps, can be over a year old. We’ve successfully installed an older version of Instagram to an iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.3.3 and Twitter to an iPhone 3G running iOS 4.2.1. Although Instagram was “out of date,” the last compatible version of Twitter (featured above) was version 4.3.2, and hit the App Store back on August 18th, 2012. If you’re feeling nostalgic and you’ve got an aging iPhone, iPad or iPod touch that could use a bit of exercise, Apple’s latest tweak might teach your old device some new tricks.

This week those responsible for holding the keys to the gates of Apple’s mobile app store have taken the lock off of submissions for 64-bit apps. Developers will be able to create and submit 64-bit apps for iOS 7 only for the time being. In the near future, Apple will be sending out availability for […]
Not everyone’s lucky enough to have a musician for a boyfriend or girlfriend. If you want a song that’s truly created for you, then you might want to check out IDNAtity.
It’s a fun musical app that composes a song for you based on your genetic code. Of course, the app doesn’t require a DNA sample – it starts off by asking you to upload a picture of yourself and answer a series of questions regarding your appearance, like your eye, hair, and skin color. IDNAtity will then generate your genetic code and create a song that you can listen to and maybe even share with others.
The app provides several instruments for your song, from orchestra instruments to bird tweets.
IDNAtity is available on the iTunes App Store for $0.99(USD).

Look at the text message conversation between any two people in the 12 to late 20s age range and there’s a pretty decent chance you’ll get a deluge of brightly colored cartoon icons that, just a few years ago, would have seemed entirely nonsensical. Now they can tell entire tales
No one really knows exactly how Apple makes sure the apps that wind up in its store are safe. All we know is that the App Store has a comparatively better track record than its Android counterpart
So you made a rash decision and used BreakupText to end things with an otherwise awesome guy (or girl.) What now? Well, you could grovel on your knees and beg for their forgiveness… or let another app do the work for you: MakeupText.
Created by the same people behind BreakupText, the MakeupText app offers the user with a bunch of reasons for making up. The “something shiny caught my eye” and “kidnapped by Russians” mistakes are ever present, but the groveling begins on the next screen.
Here’s a sample of the mindless sweetness the app can come up with:
I left you because I thought I found something great, something different, something worthy of my attention. It sucked me in, like a hypnotic octopus with bright and heavy tentacles dragging its willing partner further and further underwater. Until I suddenly realized I was being tricked. Their glitter was sand, their shine only the sun’s reflection off their cold, metal self. You, my dear, my love, are the sun. You are nothing but glitter, I know because it fills me every time we speak, every time I see you it’s all lightning flashes, you can light up the night’s sky. I left you because I’m an idiot, because that dastardly farce. I miss you, let us be together, let me take in your light. If you can find it in you to forgive me, I will spend every day worshiping your sun, you will never lose me again.
While BreakupText costs $0.99 to download, MakeupText is available for free – for a limited time. So if you unwittingly broke up with someone who you still want to be with, download this now before they start charging for it.

You know how is it like in the world of professional boxing, where there is always the customary “tale of the tape” before each fight? I guess you can say that the folks over at App Annie had a similar idea when they pitched two behemoths against each other – the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, and here we are with the results of this “showdown” of sorts. History is bound to repeat itself in certain situations, although this is a slight deviation from the past – while Google Play has seemingly more downloads than Apple’s App Store, the latter is earning way more than the former, although there have been exceptions to the rule in the past.
I suppose Google’s efforts in the past has led them to where they are today, including introducing a new developer policy that cleans up the Play Store of malicious apps, while pulling out more than 60,000 low quality apps from the Play Store earlier this year. It is interesting to note that Google Play Store actually dished out app downloads in the past quarter compared to the Apple App Store, but somehow the apps over at the App Store pull in approximately 2.3x more revenue than its competitor.
