MediaFire brings cloud storage integration to Windows and Mac

Up until now, you’d have to access MediaFire’s web interface if you want to use its cloud storage service on your computer. While the browser-based UI isn’t anything complex, the company’s new OS X and Windows apps make storing files in the cloud comparably easier. Similar to Dropbox and Google Drive, MediaFire’s desktop clients integrate your cloud-based folders with OS X Finder or Windows Explorer. Both versions automatically sync across devices whenever you upload, and they let you share files straight from your desktop with social media contacts. As a bonus, you can use their camera icons to take screen snapshots, which you can then annotate (à la Skitch) before sharing with friends.

The apps are now available for download, but as they’re still in beta, they might come with some performance hiccups. If you’re an early adopter who wouldn’t mind 50GB of free storage space (higher capacities come at a price), though, click through the source below.

Dropbox reveals iOS 7-inspired iPhone and iPad redesign

Dropbox has rolled out a redesign for the iPad and iPhone, something it says was inspired by the latest iteration of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 7. The design is simplified extensively, and is pretty streamlined in appearance, with a lot of contrast in the elements and a lot of white space. The update is […]

Apple posts its first video trailer on the iOS App Store

Clumsy Ninja video trailer

Android app shoppers have long had the luxury of watching video trailers on Google Play, but their iOS counterparts have had to be content with static images on the App Store. Apple’s portal just got livelier, though, as MacStories has noticed what may be the first App Store video clip. UK residents who visit the “featured” section of the store now see a trailer for Clumsy Ninja alongside the usual promo graphics and app icons. This isn’t necessarily a sign of things to come — other regions don’t see the trailer just yet, and it’s not present within Clumsy Ninja‘s app page. With that said, we won’t be shocked if App Store sizzle reels become commonplace.

Dropbox gets an iOS 7 makeover with AirDrop sharing

Dropbox 3.0 for iPad

Dropbox may be late to the iOS 7 app update party, but it’s making up for lost time with an abundance of new features in the just-launched version 3.0 release for Apple’s platform. The refresh brings the expected iOS 7-friendly look and includes AirDrop, making it easy to share links or whole files with nearby friends. It’s also easier to send files to other apps or save videos to the device library, and iPad owners can quickly open files in a full-screen view. If your cloud storage revolves around Dropbox, we’d strongly recommend swinging by the App Store for an upgrade.

SkyDrive gets camera backups on iOS, Facebook previews on the web (video)

SkyDrive camera backup on iOS

Windows Phone owners have long had the option of backing up their photos to SkyDrive, but Microsoft hasn’t extended that courtesy to other platforms so far. The company must be feeling a little more generous today, as it just introduced automatic camera backups to SkyDrive for iOS. The update lets snap-happy users preserve both pictures and video, while the bandwidth-conscious can limit connection types and image sizes. There are a few welcome improvements to the app whether or not you plan to safeguard your gallery, including an iOS 7-themed makeover and the choice of opening documents in either Office Mobile or OneNote.

SkyDrive’s web client is getting a smaller, Facebook-oriented tune-up at the same time. Sharers can now get a preview of what their photos will look like on the social network, upload to existing albums and set permissions before the transfer begins. While the web upgrade isn’t quite as helpful as the new iOS app, it should minimize the chances of any SkyDrive-related social mishaps.

Donna personal assistant app updated for iOS 7, lets meeting attendees know if you’re running late

If you’ve ever run late for a meeting but weren’t able to tell the other attendees because you’re too busy battling traffic, then you might be interested in the latest update to Donna, the personal assistant iOS app from Incredible Labs that debuted earlier this year. Fondly referred to as “her” by company co-founder Kevin Cheng, Donna was designed to act as a smarter replacement for a regular calendar app, doing things like reminding you when to leave for an appointment and giving you the appropriate directions and weather conditions to get you there on time. Version 2.0 of the app, however, improves upon those features by allowing Donna to automatically email or text meeting participants that you’re on your way and let them know your ETA based on your location and preferred mode of transportation. It’s even smart enough to detect common places like your home or work as long as you’ve pre-programmed the app to do so. As before, Donna also detects conference calls in your calendar and can dial the number for you if you’ve set it up for that. If your busy life is in shambles and you’re constantly having to apologize for your tardiness, go on and download the latest version of Donna at the link below.

Google Translate for Android has a new look for smoother conversations and supports more languages

Google Translate is one of the better translation apps out there, so it’s always great whenever an update (for Android in this case) that gives its features a boost arrives. Its fresh interface that’s cleaner and simpler than the old one will likely be the first thing you’ll notice upon loading the updated Android app. This change comes with the ability to quickly translate conversations, as tapping the microphone loads a new screen that lets you switch between languages by tilting your device. Mountain View has also enhanced old features, including handwriting recognition that now supports Hebrew, Greek, Javanese and the manufactured language Esperanto. Its built-in camera, on the other hand, can now decipher text in Malay and Ukranian. These changes, along with other minor tweaks, are now available for download, but head past the break if you want to see a demo of the upgraded app.
