Path expands API access, now supports WordPress and other handpicked apps

Path has previously limited its third-party app integration to the Nike+ platform, but the company just opened its doors a little wider. App developers can now ask for permission to use Path’s sharing API, which they’ll get if Path sees such apps as a logical fit. To get the ball rolling, the social network has already granted access to 13 partners that include WordPress, Strava Cycling and a bevy of smaller image services. Only some of these developers can send app content to Path as of this writing, but the rest should support the API in the weeks ahead.

TweetDeck for web and Chrome gets New Tweet panel with image previews, autocompletion

TweetDeck just received a big upgrade for those who compose as many tweets as they read. Updated versions of TweetDeck’s web and Chrome apps now include a simple, dedicated New Tweet panel that shows image previews and streamlines posting to multiple accounts. It should also be much faster — the new client suggests usernames and hashtags as you type, speeds up replying to multiple tweets and automatically shortens web addresses. While only browser-based users will see the New Tweet pane today, Twitter promises corresponding updates to TweetDeck’s native Mac and Windows apps in the near future.

Fidelity Market Monitor app brings stock alerts, news and fanciful financials to Google Glass

Fidelity Market Monitor app brings stock alerts, news and fanciful financials to Google Glass

You know, it makes sense: an app for the one percent, tailor-made for a $1,500 headset. Fidelity’s Market Monitor app for Google Glass might just be the most impressive program to debut for the device, particularly considering the class of individual who would take advantage. In the trading world, missing an alert or notification by even three seconds could be the difference between million and millions, with this app enabling Fidelity customers to request real-time stock quotes and receive alerts dealing with companies in their portfolio. In a concept video describing what’s possible (embedded just after the break), we even see a wearer snap a photo of a Google logo, and the app translates the photo into a stock quote for GOOG.

We’re guessing that it’s only a matter of time before every other financial institution follows suit, which will likely lead to each and every CNBC anchor wearing a set whilst on air. Also, we’re hearing from a “reliable source” that both Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeouf will be joined by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Wall Street: Glass on Glass on Glass.

Skype update brings HD video calls to fourth-generation iPads (update: and the iPhone 5)

Skype update brings HD video calls on fourthgeneration iPads

One of the few big upgrades in the fourth-generation iPad was the HD front camera, but you wouldn’t know it you’ve been relying on Skype’s standard-definition video calls. Thankfully, a Skype for iPad 4.1 update has just enabled HD video calling for Apple’s latest-generation tablet. There isn’t much more to the release unless you’re craving better call stability, but there’s enough here to justify a visit to the App Store.

Update: A few hours later, Skype has an additional treat — it just released an iPhone app update that brings HD video calls to iPhone 5 owners.

Insert Coin: Choose Your Own Adventure launches interactive cartoon app on Kickstarter

In Insert Coin, we look at an exciting new tech project that requires funding before it can hit production. If you’d like to pitch a project, please send us a tip with “Insert Coin” as the subject line.

Insert Coin Choose Your Own Adventure launches interactive cartoon app on Kickstarter

There may be an iPad version of Choose Your Own Adventure coming, but will it happen or not? It’s up to you to decide. That’s how the creators of the famed series of children’s books are cheekily pitching their new Kickstarter campaign for an app called Choose ‘Toons. The first title, Your Very Own Robot (based on the book) would have you, er, your kids putting together a droid named Gus from discarded robot lab parts. It would feature 20 branches, 11 possible endings and over 30 minutes of total animation. Such productions are pricy, however, so that’s where Kickstarter comes in. The creators are looking for $130,000 to fund the project, and backers will be able to pick up the iPad app around May 2014 starting at $6 (an Android version could come later). Other pledge levels will get you a custom stylus ($18), a chance to beta test the app before others ($30) and even your likeness drawn into background of the app ($90). Naturally, all that depends on your “numerous talents and enormous intelligence” — hit the source to choose.

Exploits leave some Android-based Bitcoin wallets open to theft

Exploits leave some Bitcoin wallet apps for Android open to theft

If you manage Bitcoins through Android devices, you may need to keep a close eye on your virtual cash in the near future. Developers have found that multiple Android-based Bitcoin apps, such as Bitcoin Wallet and Mycelium Wallet, are vulnerable to number generator exploits that could be used for theft. Although patched apps are either available in beta or coming soon, the complete fix involves more than just new code — users have to both create a new Bitcoin address and send it out to anyone still relying on old details. You’re safe if you use a simple Bitcoin exchange client, but you’ll otherwise want to visit the source link for more help with securing your digital holdings.

Tango introduces Road Riot: its first original in-app game

DNP Road Riot for Tango

Tango has added five titles to its gaming platform since it was launched in June, but this is the first time the company’s introducing one created by its in-house team. The game, called Road Riot, pays homage to arcade classic Spy Hunter and involves firing cannons and dodging missiles in the midst of a race. While it’s neither groundbreaking nor original, you’ve got to give Tango props — the company claims it went through the process to better understand the platform and concoct updates that’ll benefit developers. Similar to the other games on the messaging app, Road Riot‘s rife with social elements, including the ability to broadcast high scores and to invite friends to play. Only Android users can kill time while blasting 2D cars for now, however — the iOS version won’t be out until late August.

Twitch update for iOS more than triples live channels, revamps chat

Twitch update for iOS more than triples live channels, revamps chat

Twitch streams a lot of events these days, and it’s improving its iOS app to keep up with the flood of new content. The just-posted 2.3.5 update more than triples the number of accessible live channels from 200 to over 750, giving viewers a better chance of seeing a local tourney or a “let’s play” feed. Chat has also received a thorough makeover that brings both a simpler design and support for Twitch’s unique take on emoticons. And if you’re a dedicated Dota 2 player, you’ll definitely want this upgrade — link your Steam account and you’ll earn item drops in Valve’s arena battler when watching certain streams. There’s no word of corresponding updates for Android or other platforms, although Twitch says it’s improving channel capacities across all its apps.
