As it seems to go every year, iPhone inventory is depleted from the Apple Store. You have to sift through wooden shelves for a single speck of a goldpagne iPhone 5S, pray to the angels for a white 5S and… well, you can actually get a ‘space gray’ iPhone anywhere you want. If you want to save your self a disappointing trip to the Apple Store though, developer Mordy Tikotzky made a nifty tool for you to check iPhone 5S inventory online at iPhone-Check.
A number of Apple Retail Stores around the world have amazing design and architecture. At home, New York’s infamous Fifth Avenue store is one of them, and so is the store in Shanghai, China. A glass cylinder leads customers down to the Apple Retail Store in Shanghai, the company has now been awarded a patent for this design. The patent is called Glass building panel and building made therefrom, and it describes the design of said glass cylinder. Metal joints are used to hold the big curved glass panels together, curving the panels to form the correct shape and to make them strong enough to bear their own weight and that of customers going back and forth certainly wouldn’t have been an easy task.
The Shanghai Apple Store was opened back in 2010 as part of Apple’s sales push in China. It was the second store to be opened in the country. The iconic cylinder is 40 feet high and contains the largest curved glass panels. The store has one of the largest Genius Bars and is also one of the largest stores that Apple has ever built. As of now there are three Apple Stores in Shanghai alone, a fourth one is expected to be opened in the near future.

Starting at 8AM local time here in the United States (that’s local whatever time zone you’re in), the iPhone 5s will be going on sale – and at midnight (this morning) the iPhone 5s in gold was the first to start flying off digital shelves. It’s become readily apparent not only online, where at Apple’s […]
Today pre-orders began for Apple’s iPhone 5c, the phone that’s set to replace the iPhone 5 in the company’s stock while the iPhone 5s takes the hero spot, and they’ve already begun to sell out pre-orders. Though it is only one model and one color for now, it would appear that this smartphone is set […]
Apple sent out invites for an event to take place on September 10 just last week, with pretty much everyone speculating some new iPhones will be announced during the event which we have seen leaked information and photos of both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C in the past. Apple’s big event is taking place in just a few short hours, which means now would be the ideal time to take down Apple’s online store to update it with whatever exactly they’ll be announcing today. We see a lot of scams and phishing attempts all the time, but a new one that was discovered by security research firm Webroot reveals a malware-infested email campaign that tricks users into thinking that they have received a $200 Apple Store gift card, when in reality, it’s an attempt to install malware on Windows […]
Last week, 9to5 Mac ran a piece from the Beijing Evening News about Apple store scalpers selling Genius Bar reservations. In their article, the Beijing Evening News claims that it’s impossible to make an appointment at the Genius Bar without purchasing one from a scalper. But is it really?
If you don’t pay regular visits to the Apple Store iOS app, maybe it’s time to start. In an effort to get you to fire the app up and possibly buy other stuff, Apple has started giving away free apps, songs, and ebooks from the app. Free is cool.
The Apple Store is a hectic place in China, so hectic that if you try to go in for a repair without an appointment, you can expect to wait all day. No big deal. This is what the black market for Genius Bar appointments is for.
Apple is setting up shop in Madrid, Spain where the company is building a new 6,000 square-foot flagship Apple Store, but during construction while digging out the store’s basement, construction workers discovered remains of a piece of wall of an old hospital dating back to the 15th century.
The hospital, named the Buen Suceso hospital, was demolished in 1854 to make room for newer buildings, as was the church that stood right next to the hospital. The church’s ruins were discovered back in 2009 during the construction of the new Sol Metro and Cercanías light rail station, and Apple was actually told about the possibility of finding ruins during construction of the Apple Store.
Just like with the rail station, Apple considered to build a display case of sorts to show off the ruins to Apple customers as they walk through the store, but they eventually decided against it, saying that there wouldn’t be a lot of interest in the display. However, Apple is now considering to change the design of the store to “symbolically trace the outline” of the walls of the old hospital.
However, none of the hospital ruins will be visible, but the store could pay a quiet homage to the building that stood on that land of ground before the Apple Store. Details on this aren’t finalized as of yet.
The hospital was built in the early 15th century to treat plague victims. At that time, the hospital had 60 beds, but it went through several renovations, including one in the early 1600s. Eventually, though, it was demolished to make room for the Puerta del Sol.
