Yahoo Screen And PBS Added To The Apple TV

Yahoo Screen And PBS Added To The Apple TV

In recent months we have seen the content offering on Apple TV set-top box being gradually increased, and the process continued. PBS and Yahoo Screen apps have now been added to Cupertino’s set-top box, allowing customers to view content from both services. Yahoo initially launched the Yahoo Screen app for iOS devices over a month ago, it contains video from programs such as The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Saturday Night Live, original Yahoo programs, music as well as live news and events. In recent months, ESPN, Disney Channel and HBO apps have been added to the Apple TV to increase the content offering.

The PBS app will allow users to watch some of its shows, not all of them. It will require users to sign in using the PBS registration system, Facebook or Google+ and identify the PBS affiliate that broadcasts in their area. The app doesn’t offer live streaming of programs, but many programs will be available for viewing through the Apple TV apps within 24 hours of broadcast. Programs like Frontline and Downton Abbey, one of PBS’s most watched programs, will be offered. PBS says that Downton Abbey season 2 and 3, which will be aired through December as well as the new season 4 episodes that begin in January will be available for a limited time after the broadcast.

Apple TV software update brings on PBS and Yahoo Screen

A software update is headed to Apple TV this week with both Yahoo Screen (similar to the iOS experience) and availability of a new PBS app to boot. This update allows users to attain PBS content as well as Yahoo video content where such features were limited – if available at all – through alternate […]

Apple TV update adds Yahoo Screen and PBS apps

Yahoo’s been working hard to include support for Apple services in its Screen iOS app, now it’s gone one better and launched its video-discovery app on Apple TV. With an emphasis on comedy, Yahoo Screen has been designed to collate the best of web video, including clips from Saturday Night Live, The Colbert Report, and The Daily Show, as well as live news, events and music. You’ll also be able to browse trending videos and watch Yahoo Originals programming, which are delivered direct to your Apple TV without the need to AirPlay them across. AllThingsD reports that PBS has also quietly pushed a new app, letting users get their Nova, Frontline or Antiques Roadshow fix (older episodes of Downton Abbey will be available shortly after PBS begins re-airing seasons early next year). Today’s update may only available to US users but Apple isn’t being shy about broadening the number of Apple TV apps available across the globe.

Amazon Set-Top Box Reportedly Delayed Until Spring 2014

Amazon Set Top Box Reportedly Delayed Until Spring 2014

Time and time again it has been rumored that Amazon is developing a set-top box, one that would compete against the likes of Apple TV and Roku. The company is yet to acknowledge the existence of such a product, but in recent weeks, rumors about Amazon’s set-top box have started to escalate once again. It was initially said that the device might be released later this year, possibly around the holiday season. A new ATD report claims that Amazon won’t be able to launch the device this holiday season, it expects the company to launch the set-top box next year.

Citing “industry sources,” the report claims that Amazon’s set-top box might not be launched until spring, 2014. Apparently there are two different theories regarding this delay. One is that Amazon isn’t satisfied with how the device performs at this point in time, so its looking to make some improvements. The other is that Amazon’s management isn’t dazzled by the product, and they believe its a lot like the other similar devices that are available in the market right now. It was only last week when we heard that there was a possibility of Amazon pushing back the announcement of its TV offering. This is the second report to suggest the same, despite the fact that Amazon is yet to confirm if it has any plans of entering the TV market.

Major Apple TV Refresh Might Be Delayed [Rumor]

Major Apple TV Refresh Might Be Delayed [Rumor]It has been rumored and speculated that Apple could unveil new Apple TV hardware come 22nd of October during their event. However it turns out that might not be the case, according to former TechCrunch writer, MG Siegler, who basically poured a small amount of water on his own claim about Apple TV announcements, preparing us for the possibility that Apple might not have any Apple TV-related announcements to share on the 22nd of October. According to Siegler, he has heard the rumors that Apple’s TV-related projects have been delayed, and at best what we might look forward to on the 22nd of October would be a refreshed Apple TV.

This was more or less to be expected, but apparently there could have been a pretty major update in the works but might have been delayed due to unforeseen problems. Siegler’s report come forth after his tweet about “exciting” new Apple TV hardware garnered more attention than he had expected, and this latest claim is to try and lower the hopes of any Apple TV hopefuls. In any case Apple’s 22nd of October event will most likely unveil the Cupertino company’s new iPads, possible MacBook Pro refreshes, and also the release (or a release date) for the company’s latest operating system, OS X Mavericks.
