How to Keep YouTube Music Streaming on Your Phone

The ability play audio in the background was supposed to come to YouTube last year. It still hasn’t arrived, but iOS users can use a quick workaround.

Former Apple Ad Exec Explains Why The iPhone 5c Is A Flop

Former Apple Ad Exec Explains Why The iPhone 5c Is A FlopWhile the iPhone 5c was priced a tad cheaper than the iPhone 5s, and with it being priced at $100 on-contract, we guess Apple thought that maybe the phones would be flying off the shelves as it was indeed a cheaper alternative. Unfortunately that was not the case, as Apple’s CEO Tim Cook admitted. So why didn’t the iPhone 5c do as well as Apple had imagined? Well according to former Apple advertising executive, Ken Segall, he has weighed in on why he thinks the iPhone 5c was not the money maker that Apple had initially expected.

According to Segall, he believed that Apple’s plan to turn the use of plastic into a positive one actually backfired on them. Posting on his blog, Segall wrote, “Unfortunately for Apple, creativity can be a double-edged sword. The ‘unapologetically plastic’ line in the product video was so interesting and memorable, it got played back over and over in articles about the lackluster demand for iPhone 5c. Not exactly what Apple intended.” He also notes that while the iPhone 5c was priced cheaper than the iPhone 5s, it wasn’t priced that much cheaper and customers ended up deciding to drop that extra $100 to get the iPhone 5s instead. What do you guys think? Was that why the iPhone 5c turned out to be something of a flop?

Apple Patent Suggests MacBooks With Touch Controls

Apple Patent Suggests MacBooks With Touch ControlsIt has always been something of a fantasy to think that Apple could one day release a MacBook laptop with touch controls, similar to what Microsoft has done with Windows 8 hybrid devices which has the ability to transform itself from a regular laptop, to a tablet of sorts. Maybe one day Apple might embrace such design, but in the meantime an Apple patent has revealed plans for something that appears to be a tad more “realistic” in the form of a touch-sensitive MacBook in which the bezel of the laptop would come with touch controls. This would help eliminate the need for certain physical buttons which in turn could help reduce the weight and thickness of the device.

As you can see in the diagram above, the touch controls would be embedded into the sides of the laptop itself where users will be able to control certain features of the laptop simply by touching these controls. Right off the bat we are thinking about the media control buttons, such as volume adjustment, track skipping, pause/play, maybe even screen dimming, keyboard illumination, and so on. Apart from that, the patent also describes more advanced features, such as when the USB port is touched, USB options could pop up, or the computer could read aloud the name of the port for those who might be unfamiliar around computers. It’s a nifty idea but given that it was filed back in 2009, we’re not sure if this is a patent that might be sitting on the shelves or if it is something Apple could be working on for future devices. What do you guys think?

Apple’s Protection Of User Data Could Be Hurting iAd Sales

Apples Protection Of User Data Could Be Hurting iAd SalesOver the past few months, there has been a lot of accusations leveled at giant tech corporations, such as Apple and Google, on how they were providing data to government agencies like the NSA in order for them to spy on US citizens. Whether or not that is true, or to what extent the data is shared, we guess we will never truly know, however an interesting report from AdAge would seem to suggest that Apple takes the protection of its user data very seriously, to the point where it might actually be hurting the company’s iAd sales. Apple Patents Earbuds With Fitness Sensors

Apple Patents Earbuds With Fitness Sensors

If you look at all the far fetched rumors, going as far back as two years, most will predict that Apple is either launching a full fledged HDTV set or launching a smartwatch in the very near future. Both products haven’t materialized as yet, and aren’t expected to anytime soon. These days though it seems that Apple has its sights on the medical arena. The company is reportedly working on a device that could predict heart attacks, and it has also patented earbuds that have sensors in them for tracking vital fitness related data. This setup could work, given the fact that most people already have earbuds in place whenever they’re working out or on a run.

New iWatch Concept Video Envisions A Vertical, Notification-Based UI For An Apple Wearable

    Fuse Chicken iWatch 2

A new iWatch concept video produced by Fuse Chicken, the Cleveland-based design startup that’s currently funding a magnetic charging cable and dock for iPhone, imagines what a wrist-mounted Apple wearable computer might look like with a wraparound curved display and a vertical UI incorporating the rumored Healthbook fitness tracking app potentially included in iOS 8.

This iWatch concept resembles the one created by designer Todd Hamilton earlier this year, with a bracelet-style design that borrows inspiration from the Nike+ Fuelband. The Fuse Chicken version increases the width vs. Hamilton’s take, however, and features a constant time/date display (nice feature for a watch) plus a lot more text information and UI navigation that’s primarily notification-based.

    5. Fuse Chicken iWatch 4

    6. Fuse Chicken iWatch 8

    7. Fuse Chicken iWatch 9

    8. Fuse Chicken iWatch 7

While the additional information provided by the added text-based notices is nice when comparing this design to the Todd Hamilton version, the font looks quite small and could be hard to read in practice, so perhaps some middle ground between the two could be found. Of course, Apple’s actual iWatch hardware (provided it sees the light of day at all) will almost definitely be completely distinct from any fan-made concept creation.

The Healthbook presentation is perhaps the most interesting part of this concept: If this feature is real and is part of iOS 8, it will likely tie tightly into any wearable hardware Cupertino dreams up. A previous concept mockup by a MacRumors forum member imagined what Healthbook might look like on an iPhone, but this design presents a version of what we might expect on more space-constrained screens.

Apple's Fitness-Tracking Ambitions Go Beyond the iWatch

Apple's Fitness-Tracking Ambitions Go Beyond the iWatch

Lately, all the talk has been about the fitness-tracking, health-monitoring smartwatch that Apple is assumedly building. But a patent granted to Apple today shows the company wants to get into fitness tracking not just on your wrist, but in your ear, with sensor-laden earbuds to measure your athletic performance.

Apple’s App Store to Introduce Beta Program

This article was written on July 23, 2008 by CyberNet.

app store beta.pngEver since Apple’s App Store launched, we have heard from developers complaining for various reasons. One complaint is that when they (the developers) make an update, it takes Apple too long (there have been reports of developers waiting up to 10 days) to make the update available to the masses. Developers are left with little control over the distribution of their applications which makes it frustrating.

Another complaint from developers comes from the fact that there is no way for them to release their apps to a small group of testers to get feedback before it is available to everybody. If there’s a fix they make to an App, they have to submit it to Apple and have it released to the masses. That’s about to change here shortly with Apple getting ready to roll out a a beta program.

According to TechCrunch, this new beta program will allow developers to have 100 people test their app. Those who test an app will provide their iPhone serial number to the developer who will then inform Apple to “flag” an individual’s eligibility to test. Another important thing to note is that from the sounds of it, even those individuals who haven’t had their apps approved by Apple will still be able to put out their applications for beta users to test.

Slowly but surely it looks like Apple is starting to address the concerns of developers. The App Store is just as new to Apple as it is for developers, so with time, the system should work better…
