It’s fair to say, not all toasters are created equal. But the Bugatti Noun is a god amongst toasters, a futurist but elegant combination of glass and chrome that would stand out in any kitchen. And it does more than just toast.
Crowdsourced carmaker Local Motors, makers of the 100 percent bonkers Rally Fighter you see above, just teamed up with GE Appliances, maker of… appliances. Clearly, your kitchen is about to get way more badass.
This is Aros, a Wi-Fi connected air conditioner aimed at energy-conscious consumers that Quirky and GE are launching today. It’s by far the biggest and most complicated product that Quirky has ever built, and it aims to help solve truly endemic problem: The window a/c unit, which has remained pretty much unchanged since the 1970s.
At one time giant blocks of ice were the best solution we could come up with for keeping food cold. That primitive approach was eventually replaced by electric refrigerators using compressors and chemical coolants. Now, almost 100 years later, G.E. thinks it’s found a better way to cool a fridge using a water-based fluid and magnets.
Those living in apartments or homes without central air have to come to terms with ugly, boxy air conditioners hanging out their windows. It’s either that, or be roasted alive in the summer. But it doesn’t have to be that way, not when LG is somehow packing air conditioners into these ultra-slim housings that hang on your wall like artwork.
Tossing a bag of popcorn in the microwave is much easier than dragging out the hot air popper, except that you have to watch it like a hawk to make sure it doesn’t burn. Alternatively, you can swap out your dated microwave for this new model from Whirlpool that actually listens to the popcorn as it pops to make sure your snack never gets scorched.

There are entire cookbooks dedicated to preparing meals using only a toaster oven, but most of us only ever use them for reheating pizza. So it seems like kind of a waste to have one sitting on the kitchen counter all the time. Unless it’s the Toastation by Hamilton Beach, which adds traditional toaster functionality to a compact toaster oven, creating an appliance that’s the best of both worlds.
