Everything.me Moves Out Of Beta After 2M Downloads
It has taken more than a couple of million downloads of Everything.me, where this particular app will finally move out of beta, and is finally available as a full app in the form of its Android launcher. Apart from that, the new full Everything.me app will also come with a slew of new contextual features, including a new design and a new launcher name, no surprises that it is called EverythingMe. In this new version, it would also include the release of several tent-pole features such as a true contextual phone, where your handset will deliver just what you need, and when you need it, depending on your context (time, location, preferences, history and much more).

Replay for iOS Makes Cool Videos Automatically in Seconds

Replay is a new application that allows iPhone owners to create automatically compelling videos using the photos and the video clips stored in the gallery.

When Jeff Boudier, co-founder, Stupeflix, the company behind Replay, showed me a demo a month ago, I was amazed by the results and the speed of the application: within seconds, I could watch a short video of his vacations with a vintage filter and a soundtrack, made from a few clips and photos selected  from his iPhone gallery. You can watch the demo in the video above.

Leveraging its technology that provides video capabilities for developers, Stupeflix and its team of imaging engineers, led by Nicolas Steegmann – Stupeflix CEO and cofounder, took advantage of the Apple A7 processor and its GPU computing capabilities to deliver Replay.

According to the company, on the iPhone 5s, it takes only one tenth of a second for Replay to process 50 photos and videos, perfectly edited and featuring a soundtrack. Although I did not measure the exact timing in our demo, I can tell that everything was done amazingly fast.

Basically, all your photos and videos are instantly edited into a movie leveraging the iPhone GPU, including music sync, video stabilized and trimmed to the best parts. Additionally, filters can be applied on the photos and videos, focus is made on detected faces, you have a choice of animated scenes and transitions and text effects.

Twitter #Music iOS app updated with discovery features, additional languages

Twitter Music iOS app updated with discovery features, additional languages

Twitter’s Music app for iOS just scored a few more features aimed at helping you discover new tracks, and, if you happen to hail from a handful of European countries, allowing you to navigate in your native tongue. Version 1.2 now lets you quickly jump to an artist’s top tracks, locate similar tunes, and, as a pretty nifty affiliate perk, jump to the musicians that artists follow on Twitter. There’s now also an option to scan your iPhone’s music library in order to recommend relevant tracks, and you can quickly access a list of musical groups that you’ve tweeted about in the past. Finally, the pièce de résistance — for foreign users, at least — is an option to use the app in a variety of European languages, including French, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, German, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish and Italian. Molto Buono.

Apple seeks patent to control devices with audio ‘hyperlinks’

Apple seeks patent to control handheld devices with 'audio hyperlinking'

Remember when Lady Gaga pinged smartphones and presumably alarmed dogs by transmitting inaudible, high-frequency audio at a concert with Sonic Notify tech? It turns out Apple’s applying for a patent to do something similar, namely “audio hyperlinking” that can be contained within an audio stream. Cupertino’s application says that such sound waves could be audible or outside the normal hearing range of 20Hz to 20KHz and “cause an effect in the user interface” of a receiving device. That could be useful during a podcast, for instance, to give users links to articles relevant to a discussion via sound waves alone. The application goes on to describe how such data could be encoded into an audio stream and read by the receiving device, and leaves wiggle room for a wide range of uses. Call us cynical, but we imagine that includes a way of sneaking in more ads.

Apple reportedly hiring new talent to solve iWatch design problems

Apple reportedly hiring new talent to solve iWatch design problems

Rumors, suggestions and trademark applications have been building a case for an wrist-worn Apple product for some time now — an official iWatch to fulfill the wearable potential of the iPod Nano. Now, the Financial Times says the company is “aggressively” hiring to help it get the product ready for release. According to the usual sources familiar with the matter, the new staff might have been sought out to help Apple wrap its head around wearable computing, moving the project to the next stage of development. The timing of the hires might also imply that the iWatch won’t be ready until late next year. Of course, if you can’t wait that long, you can always just make your own.

Apple files application for ‘iWatch’ trademark in Japan

Apple files application to register 'iWatch' trademark in Japan

Evidence is mounting that Apple might out a smartwatch in the near future after Yahoo Japan noticed that the company applied for the “iWatch” trademark in Japan on June 3rd. Our Japanese editor noticed that several other companies have applied for that term as well, though this one (released on June 27th) is from Apple Inc. of Cupertino. That follows a patent application from Apple we saw earlier in the year for a watch-like AMOLED device that proposed a slap bracelet, kinetic energy charger and “end-detection” user sensor, among other features. In addition, other rumors from Bloomberg back in February suggested that 100 Apple employees were working on a smartwatch of some kind. If we don’t see a device after all that, Cupertino’s gone to a heck of a lot of trouble for nothing. Check after the break for a screen grab (in Japanese) of the trademark application.

Wikimedia Android and iOS app exits beta, aims for easy Wikipedia photo gathering

Wikimedia Commons, which acts as Wikipedia’s media repository, has pushed its Android and iOS app out of the beta phase, giving photo collecting for the digital encyclopedia a workflow that isn’t chained to a browser. By registering an account online and wielding the software, users can upload photographs taken with the application — or within their device’s library — straight to the organization’s database, and endow them with titles and descriptions. With the Android flavor, multiple photos can be uploaded at once, images can be assigned categories and those torn between snapping pictures for the open source book of knowledge and their social circles can share their contributions through the likes of Facebook, Twitter and other services.
