WhatsApp Beta For Windows Phone Reportedly Blocking SD Card Installation

WhatsApp Beta For Windows Phone Reportedly Blocking SD Card InstallationIf you’re running low on space on your phone, an alternative would be to install apps onto your SD card. Granted this will not be as fast compared to storing it on the phone itself, but it will get the job done. This is a feature that Microsoft will be supporting with Windows Phone 8.1 but unfortunately not all apps will want to take advantage of it. (more…)

Hitman GO Now Available In iTunes App Store

So the other day we reported that Square Enix Montreal was set to release Hitman GO on the 17th of April and sure enough they have. The game has been launched for iOS devices where it is priced at $4.99. An Android version is expected at a later date but for now, iOS users will be able to enjoy it first.

The game is a turn-based game and is very different from the original Hitman franchise. While it does a bit of stealth, the game feels more like a board game than anything. Players are tasked with certain missions in every stage where they have to ensure that they are not seen by security and try to make it to the finish point.

They are able to “take out” security guards as well as their targets by knowing them off the board, as well as hide in plants in order to conceal themselves from security. There are many stages gamers can look forward to, although to unlock new chapters, gamers will have to obtain a certain number of “stars” per chapter.

Each missions has anywhere between 1-3 objectives, so if you were to head directly to the finish point, you’d miss out on two additional stars. The game has a fair amount of replayability, especially if you want to see if there’s a better way to accomplish a mission. The game also offers in-app purchases such as hints as well as walkthroughs, but other than that you don’t really need to make any purchases to enjoy the game fully.

Madison For Android Declares War On In-App Advertisements

Madison For Android Declares War On In App Advertisements

Developers often offer ad-free and ad-supported versions of their applications. This way they can continue to earn money without leaving a subset of users out. Those who want to pay for the app can do so and not see any ads. Those who don’t want to pay have to bear ads, through which developers make money. Though we can all agree that in-app ads are often infuriating and deteriorate the user experience. The folks behind Madison think so as well. Its a new Android application which aims to help users get rid of in-app ads, but the catch is that they have to view “relevant” ad content on their home screens.

For sharing the home screen space with Madison, it rewards users with Google Play credits. These credits can be used to purchase ad-free premium versions of any application. The idea seems simple enough. You agree to seeing relevant ads on your homescreen, get credits in return, buy your favorite apps and games to enjoy an ad-free experience. The Madison app includes a feedback toolbar through which users can like, dislike, skip or share ads based on their preferences, so they do have some say in the content displayed on their home screen.

The startup behind this application says that it is working with national brands to ensure that ads, deals and videos displayed on the home screen are worth putting there. The timing of Madison’s launch depends upon gathering enough brands with ample relevant content, it won’t launch without enough content. It is now accepting signups from people who wish to participate in a private beta, which launches this summer.

Flickr 3.0 Brings Filters, Editing Tools And More

Flickr 3.0 Brings Filters, Editing Tools And More

Yahoo today launched a completely redesigned Flickr 3.0 application for iOS and Android. Right off the bat it seems like the service is trying to compete with Instagram head-on. It now offers filters like its Facebook owned counterpart as well as advanced photo editing tools. Users are now able to view each photo’s metadata. They will have access to information such as the aperture setting, the camera used and more.

Its similarity to Instagram isn’t just limited to filters. Flickr users will now also be able to comment, like and share photos straight through the new application. The app can now also be used to capture up to 30 seconds of HD video with live filters applied. It even has a feed which users can scroll through to see the latest uploads from their friends, something that users have long been able to do on Instagram. That was the entire premise behind the popular photo sharing service.

The new Flickr application has an auto-sync feature as well which uploads original quality photos from the handset to users’ Flickr accounts. Another major change is that the app no longer allows users to sign in with a Facebook or Google account. Now a Yahoo account is mandatory.

While the app might not compel a whole lot of people to ditch Instagram, existing Flickr users will definitely get a much better experience. Flickr is available as a free download from Google Play Store and the iTunes App Store.

Hearthstone: Heroes Of Warcraft Arrives On The iPad

Back in 2013, Blizzard announced Hearthstone which was basically Blizzard’s take on a collectible card game, except in digital form, and to top things off, the game is free-to-play, so if gamers wanted to buy additional cards or booster packs, they’d have to fork out real-life money instead.

Now the good news is that Blizzard has officially launched the game for the iPad, following its soft launch earlier this month.  The app itself weighs around 500MB in size so you might want to be connected to the WiFi if you want to download it. The app itself is free, like we mentioned, but in-app purchases can range anywhere between $1.99 up to $49.99. (more…)

Possible Redesigned Google+ App For Android Spotted

Possible Redesigned Google+ App For Android SpottedSo apparently not only is Google working on a redesign for its app icons, but apparently they are also working on a redesign of the Google+ app for Android. This is thanks to a sighting by a Google+ user, Yoel Kaseb, who managed to get his hands on a handful of screenshots of the alleged redesign, although in the process it seems that he has managed to get himself locked out of the APK by Google, thus lending some credibility to his find.

Based on what we can see, it seems like Google has changed the color of the action bar, giving it a red finish, which is a nice contrast to Gmail’s blue action bar and the Calender app’s purple finish. This seems to be in line with Google’s design language so once again, it is possible that the screenshots we are seeing are the real deal. The screenshots also shows off a red overlay when accessing the menu by the side, which we guess is meant to prevent the main content from distracting from the side menu.

Posting a status has changed as well and a window will pop up as opposed to taking users to a separate page. We’re not sure how recent this Google+ app build is, or in what stage of its development that it is in at the moment, so there is a good chance that Google could be changing its design ahead of its release.

The redesign of the app also hints at the rumors we have been hearing about Project Hera, a project worked on by Google that is meant to unify Google’s products and services, both on the web and mobile, and that some of the Google Now cards will be color-coded by their action bars, like what we’re seeing in the screenshots. There’s no way of telling how real any of this is, but with Google I/O taking place in June, perhaps Google will reveal more details then.

Kitestring App Aims To Help You Get Home Safe

Kitestring App Aims To Help You Get Home SafeSay you’re out late and you’re in a sketchy neighborhood or somewhere you’re not familiar with, and you’re feeling a little paranoid. Instead of calling your parents, your best friend, or partner to have them keep you company on the phone, there’s now an app for that. It’s called Kitestring and basically what it does is that it lets the user set reminders in which if there is no response, Kitestring will attempt to contact your emergency numbers.

Users will have to key in numbers in which they want to be their emergency contact, like a parent or a friend, and every now and then, Kitestring will send you a text message asking if everything is alright. If the user does not respond within a certain amount of time, Kitestring will then attempt to contact the emergency numbers that you keyed in earlier.

Granted this won’t stop the bad people out there from attempting to mug, kidnap, or even rape you, but at the very least it will let your loved ones know that something could be wrong, as opposed to having to wait for hours or even days before they realize that something is amiss.

We should note that Kitestring isn’t the first of its kind as there are plenty of other apps out there designed for the safety of women in mind, but it definitely makes it onto the list, so if you’re planning a trip to a country you’re unfamiliar with, or planning on working late and want to let your loved ones know, perhaps this is an app worth checking out.
