When BlackBerry announced that BBM would be making its way onto multiple platforms, such as iOS and Android (and Windows Phone later on), many were wondering how BlackBerry would be able to make money from the service. After all the service used to come bundled with BlackBerry phones as an exclusive in the past, but now that it’s free for other platforms, how will BlackBerry make money?
Well for starters BlackBerry will be selling stickers, and if you might recall a while back it was suggested that ads could be inserted into the messaging service through BBM Channels, where companies could pay for ads in the Channels Updates section of BBM. (more…)

Earlier Apple had announced a new feature called CarPlay. It is basically iOS in the Car that was been rebranded into something a little easier to roll off the tongue, and what it does is that it integrates iOS into the vehicle, allowing users to use certain iOS features without having to reach for their phone while driving, which safe to say is not recommended.
Now apart from offering up default and native apps, Apple has also announced support for third-party apps such as iTunes Radio, Spotify, Beats Radio, Stitcher Radio for Podcasts, and iHeartRadio, but oddly enough Pandora was missing from the mix. Could it be that Apple sees Pandora as a rival to iTunes Radio and decided not to include them? (more…)

During MWC 2014, BlackBerry announced the BlackBerry Z3. The handset is the first device that resulted from BlackBerry and Foxconn’s partnership and will be a device targeted at emerging markets, such as Indonesia for example.
Unfortunately the full hardware specifications of the BlackBerry Z3 were not revealed during its announcement, but presumably it won’t be packing high-end hardware if BlackBerry and Foxconn expect to make it affordable. The good news is that despite it potentially being a low-end device, it will be able to run apps made for the BlackBerry Z30. (more…)

If there is one feature that Windows Phone is known for, it would be its unique user interface which relies on tiles to provide users with information at a glance. It is pretty clever, unique, and actually pretty neat in terms of layout.
In fact Nokia’s X series of Android handsets appear to be running a forked version of Android that sports a Metro-ish UI, but interestingly enough it seems that Nokia does not want Android developers to copy that layout, which we guess is to help reduce confusion between Android and Windows Phone for the less tech savvy out there. Viber, for those unfamiliar, is an app that allows users to call one another for free and send instant messages as well. The app is available on a variety of platforms except for BlackBerry 10. This was confirmed back in 2013 where Viber stated that they had no plans to support BlackBerry 10 anytime soon.
Well the good news is that it looks like Viber could be having a change of heart. This is thanks to a recent tweet by Viber in which they respond to a customer’s enquiry as to whether Viber would be arriving on BlackBerry. Viber responded by saying, “We are working with BB on a solution that will allow us to bring Viber to BB10. Please follow us for updates coming soon!” (more…)

Just the other day, we saw the Nokia X rooted and have Google apps installed on the phone. This is actually a pretty big deal because with the Nokia X running on a forked version of Android, this meant that unlike other Android phones, the Nokia X would not, by default, have access to Google apps and services that come preinstalled on Android phones.
Now according to reports, it seems that the reverse has happened. The Nokia Store app on the Nokia X has managed to be extracted and installed on none other than a Jolla smartphone, which for those unfamiliar is a phone made by ex-Nokia employees and runs an operating system known as Sailfish OS.
