We know that Apple was eager to get their phones into China, especially when it meant that they could sign a deal with China Mobile which was not only the country’s larger carrier, but also one of the largest carriers in the world, thanks to China’s population which gave it a huge amount of customers.
Now we know that this meant that Apple could essentially sell more iPhones to the Chinese public, but it also seems that this has managed to help increase the revenue from the iTunes App Store. According to reports from apps analytics firm, App Annie, it seems that App Store revenue for China has seen an increase of 70% in Q1 2014.
According to their report, they attribute this growth to the deal that Apple struck with China Mobile. The deal was only confirmed earlier this year after it seemed that Apple was still in talks with the carrier back in 2013, so it’s actually pretty amazing to see the App Store revenue grow by that much in a relatively short amount of time.
Unfortunately while this growth looks good on paper, financially it’s still not as good as Japan. In Japan it seems that despite the country having a smaller population than China, Japanese customers are spending more on its apps compared to those in China. Perhaps as the iPhone begins to reach a wider audience and matures a bit more in the market, those numbers will change, but for now Apple will just have to make do with the 70% growth.

Posted in: Today's ChiliToday a software update is being rolled out to Roku 3 players that adds support for its universal search feature to the iOS and Android apps. This feature allows users to hunt for any actor, TV show, or movie and find it on all of the streaming services that carry it, right from the mobile app.
If there is one feature that the messaging app Line is known for, it would be its stickers. The sticker store is constantly updated with new stickers and is used by companies to help market movies and television shows and even music by releasing stickers in its likeness, like Avengers-related stickers, Psy-themed stickers, and so on.
Line has recently announced that they have updated their Android app with a new feature called Sticons. Just in case the name wasn’t obvious enough, Sticons are basically a combination of both stickers and icons. They can be used in regular text messages within the apps (as pictured above), but when sent individually, their size increases to resemble that of a sticker.
Unfortunately this update appears to be available only for Android first while an iPhone version is being worked on. At the moment there are over 1,000 different Sticons to choose from in five different categories: faces, animals, symbols, sports, and vehicles. It is unclear if just like its stickers feature, Line has plans to open up a market for its Sticons where additional Sticons can be purchased for a small fee.
In any case if you’d like to check out Sticons and the Line messenger app, it is free for download and you can head on over to the Google Play store for the download.

If you have ever traveled to countries where the time difference of that country and your home is huge, you’ve probably experienced a rather nasty side-effect known as jetlag. For those who haven’t experienced jetlag, it basically makes you tired at odd hours of the day and extremely awake and alert in the dead of the night.
This is because your body isn’t used to the time difference and the times you’re feeling sleepy would actually be the times that you should be asleep in your country. Now thanks to a group of mathematicians from the University of Michigan, they claim to have developed an app called Entrain that will supposedly do away with the feeling of jetlag. (more…)

Unless you’re a first-time passenger who’s a little anxious about flying, you probably pay more attention to your phone than a flight attendant’s safety spiel. But since it really is important to pay attention, researchers from the University of Udine’s HCI Lab are developing smartphone and tablet apps that gamify in-flight safety info
