Nintendo Will Develop Apps For Mobile, But Not Games

nintendo-logoIt seems like after a little back and forth, Nintendo has come forward to announce that they will be releasing apps on smartphones, but not in the way that many had initially imagined. During a business presentation by Nintendo’s President, Satoru Iwata, he revealed that Nintendo would be developing apps for mobile devices that would in a way act as an introduction/advertisement to gamers that would make them want to buy more hardware and software from Nintendo. However Iwata did clearly state that these apps are not games and that they have no plans on introducing any of Nintendo’s games onto mobile.

According to Iwata, “I have not given any restrictions to the development team, even not ruling out the possibility of making games or using our game characters. However, if you report that we will release Mario on smart devices, it would be a completely misleading statement.” It seems that Nintendo’s stubbornness is still holding strong, but whether or not it will pay off remains to be seen. Earlier Nintendo announced several plans that they had for the future. One of them was how the company planned on releasing a new platform that would be health-related, which was a pretty interesting turn of events.

Opera Mobile Store Surpasses 100 Million Visitors A Month

opera_mobileJust like how Opera is more or less neutral in the browser wars, as in it isn’t Microsoft versus Google, they carry that neutrality when it comes to mobile apps as well which is evident in the Opera Mobile Store which plays home to a variety of apps available for different platforms. This includes Android, BlackBerry, Java, Symbian, and even iOS. Opera boasts that they are the fifth-largest mobile app store in the world today and in a recent announcement, revealed that they have managed to hit a new milestone of 105 million visitors a month which was an increase of 172% since the close of 2012.

As it stands Opera currently plays host to over 200,000 apps and has also undergone a redesign back in 2013 which presumably helped play a part in seeing its user base grow. According to Lars Boilesen, the CEO of Opera Software, “In just over two years, the Opera Mobile Store has shown strong growth – from 18 million monthly visitors to 100 million, and has seen a fivefold increase in the number of apps offered. The compression technology in Opera’s browsers, combined with the broad portfolio of apps in the Opera Mobile Store across many different platforms, have resulted in massive adoption of the store worldwide.”

Official MEGA App Arrives For BlackBerry

megaGood news BlackBerry users, if you have been waiting for the MEGA file sharing site’s app to arrive on your platform, it now has in an official version. Prior to this, the MEGA app was only available as an Android port meaning that you’d have to know how to sideload the app onto your BlackBerry device if you wish to use it. Not exactly the most user friendly method but it is possible. The only difference is that now the developers behind the app have made an official port onto the BlackBerry platform, meaning that you will be able to head on over to the BlackBerry World website in order to get your hands on it.

For those unfamiliar with MEGA, this is a file sharing website launched by notorious former Megaupload owner, Kim Doctor, which was also launched in response to Megaupload shutting down. According to its description, “MEGA is a secure cloud storage service that gives you 50GB for free. Unlike other cloud storage providers, your data is encrypted and decrypted by the client devices only and never by us. Your data is accessible any time, from any device, anywhere. Share folders with your contacts and see their updates in real time.” In any case the app itself is free so hit up BlackBerry World for the download!
