Remote App For iOS Updated With iTunes Radio Support

Remote App For iOS Updated With iTunes Radio SupportIf you’re an iTunes Radio listener, you might be interested to learn that Apple has recently released an update for its Remote app which will now allow iTunes Radio listeners to control playback through their smartphone/tablet when listening to the service on their Mac or PC. Previously the app was limited to just controller iTunes on the computer, as well as being used to navigate the Apple T V UI. The app is free for download for those who are interested, hit up the iTunes App Store for the download.

The Remote app was released many years ago, but it was only recently that Apple has given the app a much-needed update in terms of the visuals department. The app has since been redesigned to go with the look and feel of iOS 7, which has a cleaner and more minimalist design. Some criticize the new look of iOS 7, but at the same time there are just as many iOS users who claim that it is about time Apple did something with its UI, at least compared to the likes of Android whose look has been constantly evolving over the years.

Cover Lock Screen App For Android Now Available For Download

Cover Lock Screen App For Android Now Available For DownloadWe spend a lot of time tinkering away on our smartphones, when in reality perhaps our smartphones should be working for us. We’ve seen attempts by developers to create smarter apps, such as IFTTT for the iPhone, and Chameleon launcher for Android devices, and now looking to help users create a more seamless user experience, the Cover lock screen app has been launched in open beta. The app has been around for a while now, but previously it was limited to a closed beta where not everyone could download the app just yet.

However for those who are interested in creating a smarter smartphone for themselves, the app is available as a public beta via the Google Play store. For those unfamiliar with Cover, it’s basically a lock screen app that tries to provide you with the best apps at the right time all from the lock screen itself. For example it will be able to detect when you are in the car and prepare apps such as Google Maps, TomTom, and etc. However when it detects that you might be at work or school, productivity apps such as Dropbox, Google Drive, Evernote, and etc. would be available.

As it stands the app is a free for download, so if you’re wondering what the fuss is all about, hit up the Google Play store for the details.

Fleksy Keyboard Makes Its Way To iOS Through Third-Party Apps

Fleksy Keyboard Makes Its Way To iOS Through Third Party AppsIf there’s one thing about Android is that it is not as restrictive compared to iOS. This means that users are able to customize their device to their liking, sometimes without even having to root their phone. For example customization could be a change in launchers, or keyboards, or even changing the default camera/browser app. Well the good news is that it looks like some of that customization could be headed iOS’ way in the form of Fleksy keyboard. The app has been available on Android and recently left its beta phase, but its developers have not stopped there and have released an SDK for iOS developers.

While Fleksy will not be able to replace all of iOS’ keyboards, developers now have the option to include the keyboard within their apps. Speaking to The Verge, Fleksy’s founder, Ioannis Verdelis, was quoted as saying, “With every new version of iOS the work required on our part to build a keyboard SDK has reduced significantly […] We’re [now] doing stuff on iOS that integrates the keyboard deeper than it’s ever been integrated.” As it stands there are a handful of apps that have already integrated Fleksy into their apps, such as GV Connect, Blindsquare, Wordbox, and Launch. If you’re wondering what those apps might be like to use with a keyboard different from the default iOS one, go ahead and check them out.

Motion Monitor App For Nokia Lumia 1520 Announced

Motion Monitor App For Nokia Lumia 1520 AnnouncedIf you’re looking for a motion tracking app for your Nokia Lumia device, perhaps as a way to keep track of your fitness and your daily activities, you might be interested in the recently released Motion Monitor app by Nokia. The app, as it stands, is currently in beta, but basically what it does is that it follows similar fitness tracking apps by monitoring the user’s physical activity, such as motion and steps. The app will be able to run in the background and reportedly consumes very little power because it uses one of the Lumia 1520’s cores to off-load sensor data, similar to how the Apple M7 chip works in the iPhone 5s.

As expected this means that the Motion Monitor app will be an exclusive to the Lumia 1520, although it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if Nokia and Microsoft eventually open up the API to third party developers who might be thinking of creating something similar as an alternative. In the meantime if you’re an owner of the Lumia 1520, you can head on over to the Windows Phone Store for the download, but like we said the app is currently in beta, so do expect the occasional bug every now and then.

Crytek is probably a name that many are familiar with when it comes to games on consoles and the PC, especially when the games are visually stunning. Titles such as Crysis 3 and Ryse: Son of Rome come to mind, and the good news for mobile gamers is that if you’ve loved Crytek’s previous releases, you might be interested to learn that the company will be entering the mobile space with their first title, The Collectables, which somehow makes me think of The Expendables. In any case the game will be Crytek’s first foray into mobile game and it will be a free-to-play title for iOS and Android.

The game will use the company’s CryEngine technology and will put gamers in charge of a squad of heroes where they travel the globe and accomplish missions. The game will be published by DeNA and according to Cryetk’s Paha Schulz, “DeNA offers unparalleled experience in the mobile gaming space, and we’re excited to be collaborating with their team to deliver The Collectables to players. The Collectables will be the first free-to-play mobile game that leverages Crytek’s cutting-edge 3D game technology CRYENGINE.”

Instagram’s Messaging Feature Reportedly “Confirmed” For Tomorrow

Instagrams Messaging Feature Reportedly Confirmed For TomorrowIt has been rumored that Instagram will be announcing a new private messaging feature in its app in an update, and come 12th of December, the company is expected to announce something, which hardly seems like a coincidence. According to the folks at TechCrunch, they claim that they are able to confirm that what’s being launched on the 12th of December will be the messaging feature that has been rumored. Interestingly enough it will not be your typical instant messenger as their sources claim that these messages will disappear over time, which we can’t help but be reminded of Snapchat.

Instagram’s private messaging feature was rumored shortly after there were reports that Instagram’s parent company, Facebook, attempted to acquire Snapchat. For those unfamiliar, Snapchat is an app that allows users to send photos to one another that will be erased after a certain amount of time, making it great to send private and confidential images and not have to worry that it might be stored on the device of the recipient. Of course since this is hardly an announcement, take it with a grain of salt for now, but do check back with us tomorrow for the details!
