Apple Store app finally debuts for iPad with clean, tablet-friendly interface

It’s hardly show-stopping news out of Cupertino today, but gadget fiends hoping to wrap their holiday tech shopping without leaving home now have one more option in their tablet-friendly arsenal. It’s the Apple Store app for iPad, and it’s coming soon to a slate near you. The application, designed specifically to take advantage of the iPad’s added screen real estate, is a big step up from its iPhone equivalent. There’s a bounty of high-res product images with full pinch-to-zoom support, intuitive category links and detailed product info, including explanations for certain device add-ons, like increased storage or wireless connectivity. Curiously, this version lacks the in-store options available with the Apple Store app for iPhone, such as the EasyPay checkout feature that launched way back in 2011. Fire up your iPad and hit up the source link to check it out.

Russian internet titan Mail.ru stakes claim in US with email and chat apps, mobile games

We wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve never heard of Mail.ru — after all, it’s huge in Russia, but not in the US. In an effort to carve out a space for itself in America, the company has launched a trio of products under its US-based My.com brand (no, not Me.com), including an Android and iOS email client called myMail. Its clean looks and features are reminiscent of the Dropbox-owned Mailbox app, and it includes real-time notifications and a slide-out menu. myMail takes things further, however, by adding avatars and an auto-night mode that disables pings during times you specify. Next on the list is an IM app named myChat that also offers free voice and video calls à la Viber and Tango.

Both of the aforementioned services are free, but My.com aims to subsidize the costs of running them with revenue from its new mobile gaming portal called myGames. Its roster of games is looking short at the moment, but titles range from Texas Hold ‘Em to combat strategy and farm simulation. Obviously, the company’s facing some very tough competition, and it needs to claw its way up to earn significant name recognition stateside — a feat even its acquisition of ICQ couldn’t help it accomplish.

Google Play Revenue Expected To Grow To $7.2 Billion In 2017

Google Play Revenue Expected To Grow To $7.2 Billion In 2017Apple’s iTunes App Store was long thought to be the  dominant ecosystem as far as apps were concerned, with plenty of developers to choose to developer for iOS exclusively, or to develop apps for the iOS platform first. Well Google has since managed to catch up and according to reports, could even beat out Apple in terms of revenue generated. According to a report by Barron’s, they note that according to a Citigroup analyst, Mark May, it has been estimated that Google Play’s revenue will compound annual growth over the next four years, allowing it to grow from $1.3 billion in 2013, to a whopping $5.2 billion in 2017.

However this number is expected to be even bigger if one were to factor in in-app related ads, in which May thinks it will boost revenue to $3.2 billion in 2014, and come 2017 Google could be looking at $7.2 billion in revenue from Google Play alone. Those are some pretty impressive numbers, and with that being said, May has actually raised his price target from $1,025 to $1,190 and issued a Buy rating on Google’s stock. It’s hard to say where we might be in the next 3-4 years, but assuming this is the trend, Google Play could be Google’s new cash cow.
