Listn, the app from MFive Labs, has received $500,000 in seed money to grow its user base and continue developing its platform. So we have seen how Atama’s Sesame fob allows users to lock and unlock their Mac computer wirelessly, and if you’re after a similar solution, here’s an alternative in the form of “Knock”. The good news is that unlike Sesame, Knock is not an external device but rather an iOS app that allows the user to knock on their phone a couple of times to unlock their Mac computer. Similar to Sesame, Knock will rely on Bluetooth 4.0 LE to pair your phone with your Mac and as it stands, it is only available for iOS devices and Mac computers. It’s a pretty cool feature and if you’re trying to do away with having to type passwords all the time, but still want to secure your Mac computer when you step away to the bathroom or attend to a call, perhaps Knock is an app for iOS and Mac worth checking out.
The Mac app is free for download, but to get the accompanying app for your iPhone will set you back $3.99. According to Knock’s website, it seems that a Windows version of the app could be in the works but no word on a launch date just yet. If you’d like to see the app in app, check out the video above for the details!

Passwords are obnoxious, but until desktops start coming with a fingerprint/retina/any other type of body part scanner, they’re stuck dealing with the passcode security of yesteryear—or so it would seem. The new Knock app for iPhone, though, takes a more fun approach.
Movimento Uses Wearable Data To Create Unique Social Experiences For Fitness Junkies
Posted in: Today's ChiliValley-based startup Movimento is looking to further exploit the flood of data coming out of our wearables. By creating a platform that integrates familiar social gaming concepts with products like Fitbit, Jawbone UP, or Nike FuelBand, the company is enabling users to compete with their friends and create unique challenges while keeping in shape and getting some exercise.
Developed by software house Werktab during the Glazed hackathon, Movimento’s initial idea was to gamify healthcare. However, its team quickly realized the potential behind it and decided to target both the consumer and enterprise sides of the market. The whole idea behind Movimento is simple – you connect your Nike+ FuelBand, Fitbit or any other supported wearable device with the mobile app. From there, you can create different challenges, invite your friends and directly compete with them. You earn points and badges throughout the process and build up your profile – think of it as an automated Fitocracy. Because it works with multiple devices you don’t all have to be on the Fitbit website or in Nike’s clutches.
Ivan Markovic, Movimento’s CEO, stated that the idea came from inside the company. “At Werktab we like to stay healthy and we love our wearables, but we’re also competitive. Movimento incorporates these things beautifully as it provides a unique social experience for you and your fitness buddies,” he said.
Movimento is hoping to further engage people when it comes to working out. At this moment only some of the tracker data is processed. Ivan points out that there are dozens of variables that can be monitored and exploited by the app. However, the basic ones, such as pedometer, physical activity and sleep time, are just enough to create a gamified fitness platform that works across the range of devices.
From the enterprise standpoint, Movimento is looking to provide valuable data to corporations and health care companies. By actively working out and following doctors’ instructions, users can receive different rewards. Companies can use this information to create the right health plan for each employee, effectively saving millions of dollars in insurance. Movimento is already a part of SAP accelerator and is actively raising a seed round with several undisclosed Valley firms. Markovic stated that demand for such a product is high, especially now that big companies such as Google and Samsung have entered the wearables game.
The company is currently running a closed beta with Markovic, promising a 2014 Q1 launch date.
Google just pushed a major update to its search app that effectively makes Google Now as useful on iOS as it is on Android. That means iPhone users can finally enjoy all those cool features like Google notifications telling you who won the World Series and what time to leave your house to make that appointment.
Smartphones and tablets may have replaced a daily newspaper for many of us, but saying goodbye to the morning gazette also meant losing those weekly circulars and a surefire way to keep track of when dish detergent’s on sale. Thankfully, a new free app called Flipp, available for iOS today and Android early next year, promises to deliver all of those lost (but not forgotten) circulars directly to your smartphone or tablet.
Remote App For iOS Updated
Posted in: Today's ChiliYesterday we reported that due to a sighting on the Colombian iTunes App Store, it was hinted that a redesigned Remote app would be released in the near future. Well the good news for those who are heavy users of the Remote app, you’ll be pleased to learn that the app has since been updated and released. If you have disabled automatic app updates, you will need to hit up the iTunes App Store to manually download the app yourself.
Unfortunately apart from the redesign, it does not appear that Apple has made any major changes to the app, at least not based on its changelog which reads, “This version of Remote has been completely redesigned for iOS 7 and adds support for iTunes 11.1.” We guess those who are particular about consistency, this update should bring the app in line with iOS 7’s design, doing away with the old buttons and gradients in favor of a more “flat” and whiter theme.
For those unfamiliar with the Remote app, it allows iOS users to control their Apple TV and iTunes library remotely as long as all devices are connected to the same WiFi network. Users will be able to pause/play songs/videos, adjust volume, and skip ahead all from the app itself. The app is a free download so if you’d like to check it out, hit up the iTunes App Store for the download.

Nike+ Move App For iPhone 5s Launched, Turns Your iPhone 5s Into A FuelBand
Posted in: Today's ChiliOne of the features of the iPhone 5s would be its M7 co-processor, which helps take some load off the A7 chip in a bid to help make things more efficient as well as conserve some battery. One of the apps announced at the iPhone 5s’ launch that would take advantage of the M7 co-processor was the Nike+ Move app and the good news for those iPhone 5s users out there looking to give it a try, you’re in luck as the app has since launched on the iTunes App Store and will be a free download and will only be available for iPhone 5s users.
The app will make use of the iPhone 5s’ co-processor and CoreMotion APIs in iOS 7, essentially allowing the app to track your movements more reliably and accurately while collecting data in the background. Best of all, this can be done even when the phone is asleep and will help contribute to more efficient battery use. The data collected by the phone will then be converted into NikeFuel, which is basically a metric used by Nike to gauge how active you are which can also be used to compare against friends or other Nike+ Move users. This is similar to how the Nike FuelBand works so if you don’t want to spend extra money on the FuelBand, your iPhone 5s should do the trick.
