Skype will no longer support third-party desktop application development beginning in December, the company has announced. This includes all recording, broadcasting, and other kinds of apps, but it also includes third-party hardware such as headphones with on-board call controls. Skype is offering no exceptions to the rule, as far as SlashGear can tell, and its […]
When Apple announced the iPhone, the Cupertino company also released a handful of apps that was designed for the iPhone. However as time passed and with more developers creating more unique solutions, Apple’s own apps started to fall by the wayside, and one of them was the Remote app which basically allows iOS users to control devices like the Apple TV, and Mac/PC iTunes installations from iOS devices. The app, while still working without any issues, definitely could use a redesign and thanks to teases spotted on Apple’s Colombian iTunes App Store, it looks like an update could finally be headed our way.
According to reports, the Colombian iTunes App Store has been regularly displaying the ad above, which basically highlights how the Remote app has been redesigned for iOS 7. Apple has redesigned several of their apps for iOS 7, such as the iWork and iLife suite of apps, so it would be nice if Apple gets around to some of their older, but not forgotten apps in the process, such as iBooks, iTunes U, and Find My Friends. There’s no telling when Apple will release the updated Remote, but based on the promotion, we can only assume it will be soon.

We knew that Instagram would eventually start including ads in its news feed and the company has since released a sample showing what the ads might look like. Well for those who were dreading this day, it looks like the day has come because Instagram has officially started to include ads in its news feed, with the first ad being from Michael Kors, a fashion label. The ad itself is not particularly intrusive nor it is an eye-sore as it basically looks like a regular Instagram post, with the difference being that it says “Sponsored” and it also might not have anything to do with the people you follow, which might be a little disruptive.
Comments on the ad do not seem particularly well-received at this point in time, with many Instagram users voicing their displeasure and asking for Instagram to remove it. We doubt that will be happening anytime soon which means that there is a chance some Instagram users will be leaving the service, but presumably the vast majority will stay and continue to use the app. What do you guys think of Instagram’s ads anyway? After all they can be quickly scrolled past, liked, commented, and even hidden, so like we said it’s not too intrusive at the end of the day, but what say you? Yay or nay?

While Instagram might finally be making its way onto Windows Phone, the same unfortunately cannot be said for BlackBerry users, at least until now. BlackGram for BlackBerry has been launched and it is the first native Instagram app for the BlackBerry 10 platform. Granted this is hardly the official app compared to what iOS, Android, a recently Windows Phone users will be enjoying, but we guess it’s a start and according to those who have managed to get their hands on the app, well apparently it works really well.
The features include your standard account creation, the ability to browse, search for users and hash tags, like/comment/unlike photos, follow users, edit images with the original Instagram filters, and more. Unfortunately the app is not free, unlike Instagram, so interested users will have to fork out $2.99 if they wish to get their hands on the app. As it stands the app has been hidden in BlackBerry World because according to the developer, they are scaling up their servers to match the influx of users, so don’t worry if you can’t find it yet, we’re sure it will be coming back soon. So, any BlackBerry 10 users excited at the app finally arriving for their platform?

Two years ago, NASA engineer Mark Rober blew YouTube’s mind with a video of his Halloween costume: a hole in his chest. Or at least it looked like a hole in his chest. In fact, it was an optical illusion made possible by two iPads, a little duct tape and a lot of ingenuity. Well, you won’t believe what he’s been up to since then.
This week the folks at Google and Niantic have released their cages from the “closed beta” edition of Ingress to allow this augmented reality game to all. The game remains in “beta” mode, though we’re essentially seeing the entirety of this environment’s gameplay live right this minute. This game will be available to iOS users […]
Whenever Angry Birds developer Rovio announces something, the tech world tends to take notice considering just how massively popular their bird-flinging game has become over the years. Today is one of those days as Rovio is announcing a new iOS and Android game called Juice Cubes.
Juice Cubes was developed by Thailand-based Pocket PlayLab and is described as a “fun and fruity puzzle game” which features rows of colorful cubes that players need to connect in order to create “massive combos and explosions.” In other words, it’s a match-3 puzzle game, so those of you with a Candy Crush Saga addiction would probably want to take note of Juice Cubes. Taiwanese Government Not Happy Apple Maps Labels Them As A Province Of China
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhile the Chinese government considers Taiwan part of them, the Taiwanese government and the people beg to differ and would prefer to consider themselves an independent nation. While that topic is hotly debated with the potential for war, Apple seems to have decided to lump Taiwan together with the rest of China, referring to the country as a province in China for their Maps application on both iOS and OS X Mavericks. Naturally the Taiwanese government is having none of it and has since released a statement on the matter. According to a ministry official, “The maps don’t acknowledge Taiwan as its own nation. We voiced our disapproval and hope Apple will make the change.”
This is not the first time that Apple has run into political disputes when it comes to its Maps app. Previously the South Korean government had complained that a chain of islands should have had its name written in Korean, indicating that the territory belongs to them despite Japan claiming ownership as well. Apple has yet to respond on the matter, but what do you guys think of these political disputes? Should companies such as Apple impose their own beliefs and political stance when it comes to such disputes, or should it be left entirely up to the user to decide? Google’s method was simply to refer to the region as Taiwan, and nothing more. Is that what Apple will do?
