Twitter’s #Music app is on its way to the junkyard after just six months of existence, sources close to the project have told All Things Digital. Although initially received with enthusiasm, it couldn’t hold its momentum in popularity. After jumping to #6 in the App Store rankings upon its initial launch earlier this year, it […]
What we experience in real life isn’t enough, so our digital lives are becoming more and more 3D. iOS 7 has parallax, movies want you to feel like you’ve been hit in the face with a satellite, and lots of developers have been trying

If there was one thing I was a little peeved about was how Amanita Design’s Machinarium was only available for the iPad, at least as far as mobile device were concerned, but then there is a possibility that some of the detail could be lost if it were translated into an iPhone game, but the good news for Machinarium fans is that if you, like me, were hoping for an iPhone version, you’re in luck as Amanita Design has brought the game onto the iPhone at long last. The game is now a Universal App meaning that if you already own it on your iPad, you will be able to download it onto your iPhone at no extra cost.
The iPhone version of the game will take advantage of the iPhone’s Retina display, Game Center achievements, iCloud saves, and pinch-to-zoom. There is a downside to the iPhone game which is that it will wipe your current save file, but to make up for it, Amanita Design will be offering six pre-saved positions for gamers to choose from, and hopefully one of them will be close to where you last saved. For those who do not own the iPad version of the game, you will be able to download the iPhone version for $1.99 via the iTunes App Store, so get cracking!

Angry Birds has probably got to be one of the biggest names in mobile gaming at the moment. The developers, Rovio, have since released many variations of the game to tie-in with movies as well as other franchises, such as Star Wars, but overall each variation is essentially the same game with a different look and sometimes slightly different mechanics as well. To that end, former EA CEO, John Riccitiello, revealed during his speech at the Gaming Insiders Summit how he felt about game brands, and cited Angry Birds as an example.
According to Riccitiello, he felt that Rovio needed to innovate the Angry Birds game instead of releasing variations as well as stuffed toys. “Adding a Star Wars brand is not an innovation. It plays pretty much as it did. Maybe tomorrow they will do something so fundamentally innovative that they will prove me wrong, but they haven’t really mastered the microtransaction model. I wish they had put as much innovation and energy into the code as went into all the other stuff. Maybe they wanted to be Disney before they had done enough.” As it stands Rovio has recently announced Angry Birds Go!, a kart-racing game which is a departure from their previous games, but could that be looked at as innovation?

Not too long ago, Sprint released their Messaging Plus app which is essentially a messaging app that allows users to send messages to one another, photos, videos, group messages, and more throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico. The app was developed for iOS and Android and we’re sure some Windows Phone users are wondering if and when the app will make it onto their platform. Well according to the app’s developer, Jibe Mobile (via Tech Radar), “Timing-wise, I can’t comment on that. But absolutely. What we’re doing is all about multi-module communication. Whether Windows Phone, whether it’s the web. For us, this is kind of the beginning. With Windows, we’re definitely looking at that side.”
In order to compete with the likes of other messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, Skype, Line, Viber, and etc., Sprint is expected to preloaded Messaging Plus onto all of its Android devices starting from next month. Presumably they would love to preload it onto the iPhone as well but given Apple’s restrictions, they will not be able to. In any case what do you guys think? Will Sprint’s own messaging app be able to compete with the bigger names out there?
