Apple Discontinues Cards App

Apple Discontinues Cards App Back when Apple introduced the iPhone 4S, one of the apps that would be arriving alongside the phone would be the Cards app. This was basically a feature and service Apple offered to their customers where they would be able to create custom-made letterpress cards and have them printed and shipped to someone else. We’re not sure how popular the Cards app or service was, but we’re guessing it wasn’t exactly a hit because it seems that Apple has decided to discontinue it.

It started off as a rumor, but it has since been confirmed by Apple themselves with a statement on its website that reads, “Cards ordered before 1 PM Pacific time on September 10, 2013, will be delivered, and push notifications will continue to work.” The page notifying users of its discontinuation also suggests that iOS users looking to create a similar experience can turn to the iPhoto software on their Mac computer. What do you guys think? Are you sad to see the Cards app go?

SnapChat Achieves 350 Million ‘Snaps’ A Day Milestone

SnapChat Achieves 350 Million Snaps A Day Milestone

It was this past April when the folks behind SnapChat announced its users were sending a total of 150 million photos per day, which we’re sure many of those using the service are sharing only the finest and family-friendly images that need to self destruct in 5 seconds. Nearly 5 months later, SnapChat is making another announcement as to how many “snaps” are being sent per day.  This time, their snaps per day has grown to a total of 350 million. That means in just 5 months, SnapChat has achieved 200 million snaps, which is quite the achievement.

SnapChat’s continued growth is also impressive considering social-networking giant Facebook attempted to get in on the action when they released Poke back in December. “It’s certainly scary when a giant enters your space,” SnapChat CEO Evan Spiegel said during his interview. “We now talk about it as the greatest Christmas present we ever got.”

SnapChat’s growth will certainly continue judging by its current rate, although considering they’ve also released a version of their application on the Galaxy Gear, we have no doubt the amount of snaps that are shared every day will continue to grow and grow. Now if only SnapChat would pay a little attention towards Windows Phone 8 devices.

Australian Consumer Watchdog To Investigate Freemium Apps

Australian Consumer Watchdog To Investigate Freemium AppsWhile freemium games are a developer’s new way to make a lot of money, such as Candy Crush that was reported to be raking in $633,000 per day, they are the bane of parents around the world where there have been reports of children racking up thousands because they thought that the items they were purchasing were free, due to the app being free itself.

Some kids probably had no idea what they were getting themselves into, while others probably did not think it would add up to much, but either way the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has had enough and are launching an investigation which will hopefully allow parents and children to be better educated when using freemium apps. GoPro Studio 2.0 Hands-On: Easier, Awesomer Videos (UPDATE)

GoPro, the Q-Tips of action cameras, recognized a problem. Amazon Issues Mandatory Update For Its Kindle iOS App

Amazon Issues Mandatory Update For Its Kindle iOS AppFor those who love reading their Kindle e-books on their iPhones or iPads, Amazon has recently issued a statement which strongly suggests that those who have the Kindle app on their iOS devices should update it before they install the iOS 7 update, which at this point in time does not have a specific release date. According to Amazon, without going into specifics, “This is a fix for a Kindle issue with the upcoming iOS7 OS upgrade that may cause customers to have to re-register and re-download books from Amazon. Please download and install – this is a required update before upgrading to iOS7.”

It is unclear if this is an issue with the Amazon Kindle app itself, or if there is some kind of conflict with the iOS 7 code that will cause this issue. In any case it’s not a big deal having to redownload and reregister, but why go through all that hassle when the update can be done and over with in a matter of seconds/minutes, right? Apart from that the bug does not appear to be too disastrous, but for those with the Kindle app on their iOS device, you might want to hit the update button just to be safe.

Galaxy Gear’s Snapchat Micro amongst 70 smartwatch apps launching this month

The Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch is set for release this summer, and with it a collection of apps like Snapchat Micro. The team behind Snapchat have announced at Techcrunch Disrupt that they will be amongst the 70 apps claimed to be prepared for the Galaxy Gear at its launch. This app is currently being called […]

Snapchat Micro will bring disappearing messages to Samsung’s Galaxy Gear

    Image

There seems little doubt that much of the Galaxy Gear’s success or failure will hinge on the selection of apps that arrive on smartwatch. Samsung is making a strong push for third-party software (even in the face of limited device storage), courting a big cross section of developers at places like Path and eBay for its wearable. Popular messaging app Snapchat will also be hitting the device in the form of Snapchat Micro. As you’d expect, the app harnesses the Gear’s 1.9-megapixel camera to send self-destructing images. The company’s founder told Techcrunch, “Our team is constantly looking at ways to reduce the time between our experience of a moment and our ability to share it.” Walking around with a camera on your wrist is certainly one way to go about it.
