Archos Unveils Titanium Lineup Of Android Smartphones

Archos Unveils Titanium Lineup Of Android SmartphonesArchos is a brand probably better known for its tablets, but in case you loved the brand and wouldn’t mind owning an Archos smartphone, the company has recently revealed their new Titanium lineup of Android smartphones for the European market, with no word on if and when these phones will be making their way stateside. Apart from screen size and battery size, all phones appear to be identical and will feature a MT 6752 1.3GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of onboard storage expandable via microSD, a 5MP camera, and all will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

The devices in question are the Titanium 40, Titanium 45, Titanium 50, and the Titanium 53. They will feature display resolution of 800×800, 854×480, 960×540, and 854×480 respectively. The battery sizes will also vary depending on the model chosen, with the lowest end model feature a battery size of 1,500mAh, while the largest model will come with a 2,500mAh battery. Not the most impressive Android phones we’ve seen to date, but with prices starting at 99 EUR and costing as much as 159.99 EUR, we expect that these phones will appeal to those who need a smartphone but don’t want to pay as much for a higher-end Android device, or maybe even an iPhone.

    Archos GamePad 2 Announced

There’s no shortage of devices that allow you to play Android games. The NVIDIA Shield, Ouya and the yet to be released Mad Catz M.O.J.O are just some of the major offerings in this arena. Archos released a similar Android gaming device last year, it was called the GamePad. Archos has now launched the successor, GamePad 2, which brings a number of updates and improvements. Its also a fully functional Android tablet, so users get the best of both worlds.

The Archos GamePad 2 has a 7 inch 1,280×800 IPS display, a quadcore Mali 400 graphics processing unit, a 1.6GHz quadcore A9 processor backed up by 2GB of RAM. The GamePad 2 will be available in 8GB and 16GB flavours with both being able to facilitate external expansion through microSD cards. There’s a front facing camera as well and the entire contraption is powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Archos GamePad 2 also has the company’s button mapping software, which basically means that Android games can take advantage of its hardware controls. The GamePad 2 is going to be launched towards the end of October for roughly $250. It is priced almost the same as the upcoming M.O.J.O Android gaming console, though it releases quite a while before it, the M.O.J.O comes out December 10th and that too in “limited numbers.”

Archos GamePad 2 Set To Debut Soon

Archos GamePad 2 Set To Debut SoonArchos, the French manufacturer of consumer electronic devices (mainly in the mobile arena), has been hard at work to deliver a second-generation GamePad tablet that will continue from where the 7” gaming tablet left off sometime late last year. This new tablet will be known as the Archos GamePad 2, where it has already made its way past the FCC, and apparently the Archos GamePad 2 has appeared as a product page over at the HKTDC website.

Over there, we do know that the listed specifications (which is not quite final until we see the same thing on the official website, mind you) will be roughly in the similar size as its predecessor, except that overall it is faster and more efficient. For instance, you get a quad-core 1.6GHz processor running underneath the hood, aided by a 7” IPS display at 1,280 x 800 resolution, accompanied by 2GB RAM, and a choice of 8GB or 16GB of built-in storage. Of course, just in case all of that is not enough, there is always the option to throw in a microSD memory card. Coming up with a piece of hardware is one thing, it is another to make sure that the software which accompanies it will be able to ensure the hardware does not go untouched in the months and years ahead.

Archos GamePad 2 outed with quad-core CPU, higher-res display

Archos GamePad 2 outed with quadcore CPU, higherres display

Even in the age of the NVIDIA Shield, dedicated Android gaming handsets are still a bit of a rarity, which is all more of a reason to take a gander at the leaked GamePad 2 from Archos. The device first reared its head at the FCC, and thanks to an online retailer — which has since scrubbed all references to the product — we’re now treated to a press shot and a smattering of technical specs for the successor to the original GamePad. This time around, it’s purported to sport a slightly more dense 1,280 x 800, 7-inch IPS display, along with a 1.6GHz quad-core CPU and 2GB of RAM. In addition to the previously available 8GB model, a new 16GB version is said to be in the works, and in both cases, the GamePad 2 will retain a microSD expansion slot. There’s no word yet on pricing or availability, but you can bet that we’ll hear more from Archos soon enough.
