Archos 101 XS 2, ChefPad and ChildPad tablets hands-on (video)

With Archos, when it rains, it pours. We popped by the company’s booth at IFA this morning to take a peek at its customary deluge of devices. In addition to a number of handsets, Archos was showcasing a whole pile of tablets — though we’ve opted to focus on some of the more interesting ones, namely the 101 XS, ChefPad and ChildPad. And we have to say, while the company hasn’t always been known for sexy devices, all of the tablets we looked at had surprisingly nice builds. The company also gets some credit for seeking out some interesting niches within the tablet space.

The 101 XS 2 is certainly the most mainstream of the three. The Gen11 device is probably most notable for its included keyboard dock, which magnetically attaches to the front of the slate, protecting its screen when not in use. When you’re ready to go, pull off the thin cover, unfold the stand on the dock and stick the tablet into its port, propping it up in landscape mode.%Gallery-slideshow83285%

Archos Has New Smartphone And Tablets Lined Up

Archos Has New Smartphone And Tablets Lined UpWhen it comes to an alternative but relatively reputable Android-powered smartphone or tablet manufacturer, Archos of France comes into mind for some of us out there. In fact, Archos is all prepared to make a splash at IFA 2013 that is happening later this week, where they will unveil a number of new smartphones as well as tablets there. It does seem, however, that the new flagship smartphone from Archos would be the Archos 50 Oxygen, where it will be accompanied by stock Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice, a Full HD IPS display, a quad-core 1.5GHz processor, a 13-megapixel shooter at the back, a 5-megapixel camera in front, and 16GB of internal storage space. The Titanium range that used to comprise of just tablets alone will also see the addition of new smartphones, where they reportedly cost from €99 onwards.

Archos too, will have new tablets lined up, and among them will include the Archos 97b Platinum HD, Archos 101 XS 2, the Xenon range of tablets, an Archos 80 ChildPad and the Archos 101 ChildPad. Sounds like a real slew of devices to go through, making life even more difficult for those who want to select a tablet or smartphone that suits their budget as well as needs.

Archos Xenon tablet range makes no qualms with early iPad comparisons

This week the folks at Archos have decided to let their whole second half of 2013 strategy out in the open with a release that shows off their tablet (and smartphone) range. What we’re seeing here first is a collection of tablets – large and small – aimed directly at Apple and Samsung competition, made […]

Archos outs a phone and several Android tablets ahead of IFA

Archos outs a phone and several Android tablets ahead of IFA

The rest of us haven’t even started packing for IFA and yet here’s Archos, spilling the beans about what it’ll be showing off in Berlin next week. As ever, the company’s got lots to talk about. Lots. The lineup includes a bunch of tablets and a handset, all running Android. At the top of the tablet heap is the company’s Platinum range, which includes aluminum-clad slates running quad-core processors, Android 4.2 and displays with up to 2,048 x 1,536 resolution. The 101xs2, not part of the Platinum line, also has a quad-core processor inside, along with front-facing stereo speakers and a magnetic keyboard. Then there’s the Xenon tablet series — three devices that the company is positioning as “cheaper than Apple or Samsung Wi-Fi tablets.” For gamers, the company will be trotting out a currently spec-less GamePad 2, and for kids, Archos is going to show off the skinned and parent-friendly ChildPad.

There are a few more details available for the Archos 50 Oxygen, a flagship handset that features vanilla Android 4.2, a quad-core CPU, 16GB of storage and a 13MP rear-facing camera. The company also used the opportunity to tease a “unique Smart Watch concept.” How is it unique? We can’t really tell you. More information on that and the rest of the above coming soon, we’re sure. Hey, the company has to save something for IFA, right?

Archos 101 XS 2 tablet revealed in FCC filing

A lot of announcements are on the docket for Archos at IFA this year, including several smartphones, but it looks like we’ve gotten a peak at what one of those items will be specifically: the Archos 101 XS 2. Thanks to an FCC filing, we now know they will be revealing this tablet as a […]

Archos 101 XS 2 Spotted At The FCC

Archos 101 XS 2 Spotted At The FCCThe last we heard, Archos reportedly has big plans for IFA 2013 and could be unveiling a slew of new products, one of which might have recently been spotted at the FCC under the moniker, Archos 101 XS 2. The device, in case the photo above wasn’t obvious enough, is a tablet and it is expected to be something of a successor to the original Archos 101 XS which we reviewed back in 2012. Unfortunately apart from the FCC filing that ousts the device’s existence, not much is known about the tablet in terms of its hardware, although we are able to get a look at the tablet’s overall design which to be honest isn’t all that exciting.

For those wondering what sort of specs we might be able to expect from the Archos 101 XS 2, the 101 XS featured a cover called the Coverboard that doubled up as a keyboard as well. The original 101 XS also came with a 10.1” 1280×800 display and was powered by a 1.5GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor with 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of onboard storage, a microSD card slot for memory expansion, and a front-facing camera. Hopefully with the 101 XS 2 we will be seeing a huge upgrade over last year’s hardware, so be sure to check back with us during IFA 2013 for the details!

Archos 101 XS 2 tablet appears at the FCC, adds a rear camera

Archos 101 XS 2 tablet appears at the FCC, adds a rear camera

Archos said in its fiscal results that it would launch five devices at the IFA expo next month. Well, there’s a chance you’re looking at one of them right now. An Archos 101 XS 2 tablet has surfaced at the FCC, with a lone photo showing many design elements lifted from the original 101 XS. It’s not just more of the same, though: we spot a microphone alongside the familiar keyboard connector, along with a rear camera (the first edition didn’t have one). The filing doesn’t provide clues regarding any upgrades to the performance or Android software, but we may learn about those in just a few weeks.

Archos Has Big Plans For IFA 2013 With Over 5 Product Announcements

Archos Has Big Plans For IFA 2013 With Over 5 Product AnnouncementsArchos has had its fair share of devices released in the past, but chances are the brand name would not have been at the top of most people’s shopping lists when it comes to tablets – at least not on mine, but how about you? IFA 2013 is less than a month away, and Archos has revealed that they do have big plans for this year’s IFA 2013 event. In fact, according to a financial release (in PDF format) which was published recently, Archos has every intention of marketing what they say is “a full range” of seven Android smartphones which are tipped to roll out before we bid adieu to 2013.

Other than that, Archos also did mention that they will be investing in high end tablets with some on 3G technology, “with more than five product announcements at IFA 2013″. These tablets will come with a number of themes, including gaming, connected TV and education/early learning. Well, I guess when all is said and done, we just have to sit down and wait to see what the French company has in store for the world. Which device from Archos would you look forward to the most – a smartphone or a tablet? Granted, they have had far better luck with tablets rather than smartphones in my opinion.
