Archos 80 xenon 8-inch tablet offers 3G and Play Store access

Archos has announced a new tablet – the Archos 80 xenon – this one boasting a combination of features and price tag that give consumers a reason to take notice. The slate is priced at £159.99/$199.99, and offers both 3G connectivity and an unlocked SIM, as well as other features you’d expect to find in an 8-inch tablet. The device is Google certified, so unlike some of the company’s other tablets, this one offers access to the Google Play Store.

Under the hood, the Archos 80 xenon offers a quad-core Qualcomm 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, and while the announcement fails to mention how much on-board storage space there is, there’s a microSD expansion slot that supports up to 64GB cards. Around back, there’s a 2-megapixel camera, which is more or less average for tablets in this range.

The 8-inch IPS display has a resolution of 1024 x 768 and supports multi-touch. The slate runs Android Jelly Bean 4.1, and as mentioned above has an unlocked SIM, allowing users to pop in whatever they’d like to use, whether it’s a prepaid SIM or one as part of a contract plan. There’s integrated GPS, allowing the slate to be used as a navigational tool in conjunction with Navigation or another GPS app.

Hardware aside, there are a variety of apps, such as the Archos Media Center Applications suite, which is composed of various media offerings for video and audio, as well as media sharing. That is in addition to the pre-installed Google apps, such as Gmail, Google Talk, and Google+, due to the tablet being Google-certified.

Said Loïc Poirier, CEO of Archos: “We designed the ARCHOS 80 xenon to meet the growing need and desire for large screen connectivity while on the go. Taking advantage of the recent arrival of affordable 3G subscriptions, the ARCHOS 80 xenon provides a full connected tablet experience anywhere, anytime.” The device is slated to his shelves in the US and UK this June.

Archos intros Xenon 80 8-inch tablet, delivers Jelly Bean and 3G for $200

Archos intros Xenon 80 8inch tablet, delivers Jelly Bean and 3G for $200

Just in case that recently announced ChefPad wasn’t suited to your tastes, Archos is now introducing a smaller, not-so-kitchen-friendly Android tablet, the Xenon 80. Naturally, the main highlight of this 8-inch slate is that it boasts 3G capabilities, and the company’s quick to point out it’s SIM-unlocked. Archos also endowed the Xenon 80 with some decent specs, including a vanilla flavor of Google’s Jelly Bean, an unnamed Qualcomm quad-core CPU, a 1,024 x 768 IPS display and 4GB of internal storage (expandable to 64GB by way of a microSD slot). And as with other recent Archos tablets, the Xenon 80 carries the proper Google Play credentials, making it easy for you to have access to all your favorite apps. It’ll cost a mere $200 when it hits shelves in June, which is on par with competing offerings. Now, whether it’s worth taking the plunge, well, you’ll have to make that call for yourself.

Archos ChefPad Wants to Be Your Cooking Companion in the Kitchen

I don’t mind cooking so much when I have time, it’s rather enjoyable but I definitely need to follow a recipe. I can’t just walk into the kitchen and throw things in the pan and make it taste good, I have to have specific instructions. Of course you can access recipes and cooking books and videos if you’re brave enough to carry your tablet in the kitchen around heat, sharp objects, and liquids. Or you could get a tablet designed specifically for the kitchen.

Archos has unveiled a new Android 4.1 tablet called the ChefPad and it’s designed around the features you need in a digital cookbook. The tablet comes with a silicone case to help protect it from spills and splashes. However, the tablet itself isn’t ruggedized so you still need to be careful not to drop it. The tablet also has a stand that allows you to prop it up for easy viewing and has a Chef Apps Selection that shows you the apps on the Google Play store specifically having to do with cooking.

Hardware features include a 9.7″, 1024×768 display, a 1.6 GHz dual core A9 CPU, a quad-core Mali 400 GPU, 1 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of integrated storage. The tablet does have a memory card slot for storage expansion and has a two-megapixel camera on the front and back. The cameras will be perfect for sharing pictures of what you’re cooking on Instagram, of course.

The Archos ChefPad will be available this June for $209.99(USD).

Archos ChefPad announced

French company Archos has had their fair share of Android-powered devices in the past, and this time around, it is no different with the introduction of the new ChefPad. The name of the tablet itself would have given the game away, as this particular tablet was specially designed to survive in the kitchen – since it would target cooking enthusiasts who do not mind having a digital cooking assistant that also packs enough firepower underneath the hood in order to deliver a decent personal entertainment experience.

Just what kind of hardware do you think we are able to find underneath the hood of the Archos ChefPad? For starters, there is a dual-core 1.6GHz processor that will be accompanied by a quad-core graphics processor, not to mention having the flexibility of capturing self-portraits with the front facing camera and a back facing camera, too, as both of them weigh in at 2-megapixels. Full HD (1080p) video playback is also supported, while you will be able to enjyo direct access to thousands of apps, videos, and music to cook by thanks to the ChefPad’s compatibility with Google Play.

The 9.7” Archos ChefPad will run on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, and it ought to hit the market sometime this June for $209.99 a pop. What makes the ChefPad special would be the inclusion of the Chef Apps Selection, where aspiring Chefs are able to pick and choose from a selection of the best cooking apps which range from recipes, cooking tips and cooking TV to cooking assistant apps. This will be an exclusive app program that curates the best of all apps from Google Play regardless of the category, making it a whole lot easier for the end user to discover the most suitable content. Other hardware specifications include 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded via a microSD memory card slot, Wi-Fi connectivity and a mini HDMI connector. Any takers for the Archos ChefPad?

Archos launches ChefPad, a 97inch Android tablet for your kitchen

Does your kitchen need a 9.7-inch Jelly Bean tablet to call its own? No, it certainly does not. But if your budget can accommodate such a device, it might look just like the Archos ChefPad, “the perfect tablet for the cooking enthusiast.” Under the splash-resistant case, you’ll find a standard suite of tablet specs. There’s a 1.6GHz dual-core CPU, 1 gig of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and front- and rear-facing 2-megapixel cameras, along with a pair of speakers and a built-in mic, making the device suitable for both playing back cooking lessons and recording your own. In addition to that red silicone case, you’ll receive a dedicated stand to match — both will ship in the box, along with the tablet, for just $210 this June.

Archos ChefPad is designed for the kitchen

Archos has a bunch of different Android-powered tablets available on the market today. The company has basic Android-powered tablets that we’re all used to seeing and it has a few interesting options that aren’t designs we see all the time. One of those interesting tablets is the GamePad that has physical controls for gamers built-in on each side of the tablet screen.

Archos is back with another new tablet aimed at specific use. The tablet is called the ChefPad and as the name suggests it’s intended to be used in the kitchen. The tablet runs Android 4.1 for the operating system and uses a dual-core 1.6 GHz processor.

Other hardware features for the tablet include 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, a mini HDMI output, memory card slot, and front and rear cameras. Both the front camera and rear camera have the same two-megapixel resolution. One of the kitchen oriented features of the tablet is an integrated adjustable stand.

That adjustable stand allows you to prop the tablet up so you can view it hands-free from across the counter while you cook. The tablet also comes in a protective silicone case to help keep the tablet free from various ingredients and to help protect it from spills and splashes. The tablet works in conjunction with an application from Archos called Chef Apps Selection.

That particular app will send users to the Google Play store and filter out everything but apps having to do with cooking. The tablet has a 9.7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768. It does have built-in Wi-Fi and is Google Certified. The tablet also supports full HD resolution video playback. Archos plans to launch the tablet in June for €169.99.

Archos rolls out a trio of affordable Android smartphones

Archos must have taken the past few years to learn all that they can concerning the Android-powered platform, be they tablets or smartphones, and the French company has even rolled out their fair share of Android-powered tablets in the past, too. Well, this time around, they do intend to make a more incisive headway into the smartphone industry with the announcement of a spanking new smartphone range, with prices starting from as low as just $99 a pop.

Archos’ first line of Google certified smartphones will not compromise on quality, at least from what we see on paper, as each smartphone will feature a super slim design, an IPS screen with amazing viewing angles, a powerful Qualcomm CPU and the flexibility of dual SIM cards so that you are able to be more productive with a single device. The three smartphones in question would be the Archos 35 Carbon, Archos 50 Platinum and Archos 53 Platinum.

Share features and hardware specifications among all three of these new smartphones will include a pure un-skinned Android OS for those who like the stock Android experience, Google Certification for access to Google Play and Google Mobile Services such as Google Now, dual SIM capability, a full Black Screen process, the inclusion of Archos Media Centre Apps for music and videos, cloud-based contacts and storage, as well as two cameras – one in the front and the other behind.

These devices will range from 3.5” to 5.3” in size, where the Archos 50 Platinum is the flagship model among all three, sporting a stunning 5” full black IPS display paired with a quad-core 1.2GHz processor and an 8-megapixel shooter.

The Archos 35 Carbon, Archos 50 Platinum and Archos 53 Platinum will retail for $99.99, $219.99 and $249.99, respectively, where they will roll out in Europe from the end of next month onwards, and hopefully, the rest of the world too, will be able to get a taste of Archos’ hard work this time around.
