Word has it that ASUS has plans to roll out their Zenbook UX303LN later this year, where this high end Ultrabook will boast of an Intel Haswell processor, NVIDIA graphics, in addition to a stunning 13” display that sports a whopping 3,200 x 1,800 pixels. Yes, you read that right – the amount of pixels on the screen itself is eye popping to say the least.
Still, it is not the high resolution display that ought to capture your attention in terms of the Zenbook UX303LN being the only standout feature, as there are other components underneath the hood that ought to catch your attention as well. For starters, how does having 12GB of RAM to keep your Zenbook UX303LN running sound to you?
In addition, one will also be able to perform various tasks on the road without breaking a sweat thanks to an Intel Core i7-4501U Haswell processor, the NVIDIA GT 840M graphics chipset, a 256GB solid state drive, a trio of USB ports, HDMI connectivity, an SD memory card reader, a mini DisplayPort, and a backlit keyboard, all of it crammed into a chassis that tips the scales at 3.2 pounds. Initial research has shown that the ASUS Zenbook UX303LN will retail north of $1,200, but until ASUS reveals an official recommended retail price, it would be best not to speculate.

When it comes to hybrid devices like the ASUS Transformer Book T100, you know that they are something special, although these devices will not end up creating a whole new genre of products that look set to take the world by storm – it seems that folks still like their notebooks to be, well, notebooks, and keep their tablet lifestyle separate. After all, it is pretty difficult to achieve a balance between portability and performance in a hybrid when you take the convenience factor into consideration. Having said that, the ASUS Transformer Book T100 that was released in the second half of 2013 has just been given a speed bump thanks to the inclusion of an even faster processor.

Is the demand for the PC starting to slip in the face of smartphones, tablets, and Chromebooks as viable alternatives? Well it would seem so because according to a recent report from the IDC, they have reported that worldwide PC shipments totaled 73.4 million units in the first quarter of 2014. This is actually a 4.4% decline year-on-year which does not bode well for PC manufacturer.
However it seems that despite PC shipments starting to slip, IDC has found that Lenovo is still maintaining their number one position in worldwide PC shipments with shipments in Q1 totalling 12.9 million. They are followed by HP who are pretty close at 12.55 million, followed by Dell which is a pretty distant third at 9.8 million. Acer and ASUS also made the list at fourth and fifth place respectively but it seems even their combined might does not even reach Lenovo’s numbers. (more…)

While there is nothing wrong with Intel-powered phones, there just aren’t that many such devices available in the market at the moment. Most OEMs tend to favor ARM processors since those have more or less become the standard, although Intel appears to be still interested in fighting the good fight.
