Google Might Not Go With ASUS For 2014′s Nexus 7 [Rumor]

Google Might Not Go With ASUS For 2014s Nexus 7 [Rumor]As it stands, ASUS is the manufacturer responsible for creating the Google Nexus 7 tablet and if the rumors are to be believed, they could be responsible for 2013’s Nexus 10 tablet as well. Interestingly enough despite the rumors suggesting that Google dropped Samsung in favor of ASUS for the Nexus 10 this year, come 2014 and the next-gen Nexus 7, word on the street has it that Google will no longer be going with ASUS. According to a post by DigiTimes, the reason Google might drop ASUS next year is because the company has been making too many different tablets of their own, which we guess could be either seen as creating too much competition for Google’s offerings, or it could be that Google feels that ASUS might not be concentrating on their products as much.

At the same time the argument has been made that the reason ASUS is cranking out as many tablets as they have is because they could be dropped by Google next year. Then again Google has typically opened up its Nexus products to a variety of manufacturers, allowing them to bid on projects, so perhaps ASUS has had enough or Google might have found someone else who could do a better job. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully if this rumor turns out to be true, whoever takes over next year will be able to do as good a job as ASUS, if not better.

ASUS Nexus 10 Tablet Could Be Nearing An Announcement [Rumor]

ASUS Nexus 10 Tablet Could Be Nearing An Announcement [Rumor]It had been suggested in the past the ASUS could be responsible for the new Nexus 10 despite Google allegedly confirming that the next-gen Nexus 10 would be made by Samsung again. In any case thanks to a recent photo released by @evleaks, it has been suggested that ASUS/Google could be getting closer to launching the device. This is based on a screenshot which is allegedly from a retailer based in the UK, indicating that retailers are probably getting ready to stock the device and have it ready for sale in the near future. Unfortunately apart from that, not much else is known about the upcoming device and a specific launch date has not yet been given.

It is interesting that Google has decided to move away from Samsung as the manufacturer of the Nexus 10, especially given that Samsung has probably been one of the most active as far as churning out Android tablets are concerned, with the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition being the company’s latest offering, but perhaps Google is hoping to recreate the same success they have experienced with ASUS and the Nexus 7, which could explain why they dropped Samsung in favor of the Taiwanese company. Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more info, so check back with us at a later date for updates!

Samsung reportedly not alone in cheating Android benchmarks

    Image

Samsung has come under fire this week for allegedly inflating the benchmark scores for the Galaxy Note 3 among other Android devices, but — shocker — the company is not alone in enhancing scores. AnandTech just published a report that shows ASUS, HTC and other companies using the same “benchmark detect” function to artificially bump up the numbers. According to the site, virtually all OEMs run a CPU optimization on at least one of their devices, save for Apple, Google’s Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 and Motorola’s latest crop of phones. Dishonesty aside, though, what’s the big to-do about these inflated scores? AnandTech found that companies notched less than a 10-percent performance boost in AnTuTu and Vellamo. And when’s the last time you based your smartphone purchase on benchmark scores alone, anyway?

The State of Cheating in Android Benchmarks: Everybody’s Doing It

The State of Cheating in Android Benchmarks: Everybody's Doing It

Samsung has been blamed before for fudging the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S3 in order to make the phones perform faster than it does naturally in benchmarks. But Anandtech has run the numbers and found that pretty much every smartphone maker is cheating.

    Asus RT-AC68U 1900 Mbps router hits pre-order

Back in June, Asus unveiled what it claims to be the world’s fastest Wi-Fi router. The router is the RT-AC68U and it’s capable of combined dual-band data rates as fast as 1900 Mbps. That gives the router three times faster performance than the typical 802.11n router on the market today according to Asus. The router […]

Asus TF502T Tablets Arrives At The FCC

Asus TF502T Tablets Arrives At The FCCAsus does seem to have a spanking new tablet in the pipeline, and as to whether that is the rumored Nexus 10 or not remains to be seen. What we do know is this – Asus has just sent one of their tablets with the model number TF502T to the FCC for its approval. Needless to say, whenever a particular device makes its way to the FCC and gains the relevant approval, it is more or less set to be released to the mass market in due time unless something pops up from the suits at the higher echelon of the organization who decide against doing so. What do we know about the Asus TF502T tablet at this point in time according to the FCC filing?

Frankly, not much has been divulged, save for the fact that it will feature connectivity capabilities such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC. The FCC documents also claim that this puppy will be powered by a rather hefty 6,760mAh battery, so there is a pretty good chance that it will land as one of the Transformer Pad range. Heck, if you were to take the model number alone into consideration, it does seem as though it is all set to be an Asus Transformer Pad.

Mystery ASUS tablet shows up at the FCC, could be the next Transformer Pad

Mystery ASUS tablet shows up at the FCC, could be the next Transformer Pad

With the recent announcements of the PadFone Infinity, the MeMo Pad 8 and 10 and of course that Google darling Nexus 7, you would be forgiven if you thought ASUS was done with tablets for the year. That appears to be far from the truth, however, as this recent FCC filing shows a mystery ASUS tablet that we’ve not heard about before. The TF502T model number is in line with other Transformer slates, so we’re suspecting this to be an upcoming Transformer Pad. There’s not much else to glean from the documents, but we do see that it carries 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC at the very least. While we wait to hear more details about this, feel free to hit the source if you fancy a look at FCC minutiae.

MeMOFone HD5 And PadFone Mini Confirmed By ASUS

MeMOFone HD5 And PadFone Mini Confirmed By ASUS

Recently rumors were going around that ASUS is gearing up to launch a new smartphone and a tablet. The company itself has confirmed its plans about the MeMOFone HD5 and the PadFone Mini. The MeMOFone HD5 is going to be a smartphone with a 5 inch display and is going to launch early next year. ASUS CEO Jerry Shen has made these confirmations himself.

The ASUS PadFone devices are actually smartphone and tablet hybrids, the PadFone Mini is going to be just another variant in this lineup. This particular device is said to launch around the holiday season later this year, it is said to have a 4 inch smartphone and a 7 inch tablet. Shen didn’t reveal any specific details about both of these devices, such as their specifications or pricing information. Presumably, the MeMOFone HD5 will have a high-definition display, given the name of this smartphone. Only recently ASUS revealed the PadFone Infinity, yet another smartphone and tablet hybrid that has a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, 13 megapixel rear camera and a lot more. The tablet part of this device is actually a 10.1 inch 1,920×1,200 IPS display which can’t be used as a standalone product since the smartphone houses the necessary hardware.
