ASUS’ new PadFone Infinity unveiled with Snapdragon 800, microSD slot and design tweaks

ASUS' new PadFone Infinity unveiled with Snapdragon 800, microSD slot and design tweaks

Just as promised, today ASUS has made its new PadFone Infinity official in Taipei, and there are definitely no surprises in the specs. The main update here is obviously the 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC, along with the addition of a microSD slot plus a secondary microphone for noise cancellation. Unsurprisingly, the internal storage options have been lowered to 16GB and 32GB, which is understandable with that new storage expansion capability.

One very subtle change that we missed in the leaks is the new diamond cut on the metallic backside, which gives the phone a more premium and solid look than the original version. To accompany that, the new PadFone Infinity comes in two new color options: “Titanium Black” and “Platinum White.”

The software has also been given a gentle facelift, courtesy of a more consistent design language throughout the system — from the simplified icons to the UI of some of the built-in Android apps. Since this is based on Android 4.2 instead of 4.1 out of the box, we should also see some performance boost as well. The good news for existing users is that the original PadFone Infinity will also receive this update, but there’s no time frame for the roll-out just yet. %Gallery-slideshow84453%

Asus Fonepad HD 7 Image Spotted

Asus Fonepad HD 7 Image SpottedIt does seem as though the Asus Fonepad HD 7 is well on its way to the market, as it has already seen an image of it being published by the folks over at the Bluetooth SIG. In fact, the Bluetooth SIG has also confirmed that the new Fonepad will come with the model number K00E, where it would also be powered by the Intel Atom Z2560 Clover Trail+ processor. That makes it a wee bit more advanced compared to the original Fonepad, which saw an Intel Atom Z2420 Lexington chipset running underneath the hood.

Not only that, we now do know that the Asus Fonepad HD 7 will feature a slew of other features such as 3G connectivity, dual speakers that can be seen on the front, as well as a 7” display with 1280 x 800 pixels. Other rumored hardware specifications point to a 5-megapixel camera at the back, 1GB RAM, anywhere between 8GB and 32GB of internal memory, as well as Android 4.2 Jelly Bean running right out of the box. The existing Asus Fonepad goes for €230 thereabouts in Europe, so it would be easy to assume that the Asus Fonepad HD 7 would arrive with a higher price point. Anyone interested in the new upcoming Fonepad HD 7?

ASUS Transformer Book Trio Arrives At The FCC

ASUS Transformer Book Trio Arrives At The FCCWe did spend some hands-on time with the ASUS Transformer Book T100 earlier today, but that is not all there is from ASUS. In fact, the Taiwanese company has also sent their ASUS Transformer Book Trio to the FCC for approval, where in the FCC listing itself, it carries the model number TX201L which carries evidence that points to it being the very same model as that of the Transformer Book Trio.

So far, initial test documents do point out that some of the hardware options of the ASUS Transformer Book Trio include a choice of either an Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor, where it will feature up to 8GB RAM in the keyboard segment itself, with an Intel Atom 2560 Clover Trail+ processor and 2GB RAM for the tablet segment. It remains to be seen whether the ASUS Transformer Book Trio will ever go on sale Stateside, which means it is also rather difficult to predict just how much it is going to cost should it arrive. Still, we hold to to the hope that since it has already appeared on the FCC, it ought to be making its way to store shelves eventually. Would you want to hanker after the Transformer Book Trio?

Hands-On: ASUS Transformer Book T100 Review

Hands On: ASUS Transformer Book T100 ReviewAsus has just unveiled a new product that the company defined as “transformative” for both ASUS and the computer market in general. The Transformer Book T100 is a 10.1” ultralight tablet/laptop “transformer” tablet/computer that is 16% lighter than the iPad as a tablet, and sub-1kg as a laptop with an all-day battery (11h in the best case scenario). ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih has presented the new product to a small press group, and commented “It is truly a game-changer for our mobile lifestyle.”

The idea is very attractive, especially if you take into account the, dare we say amazing, $349 (32GB) / $399 (64GB) price, but we wanted to get some hands-on time to form an opinion since the devices are literally at arm’s reach. (more…)

ASUS reveals Transformer Book T100 with Windows 81 for $349, we go handson

ASUS already added new members to its Transformer family back at Computex, and now at IDF 2013, the company’s added yet another, called the Transformer Book T100. It’s got a 10.1 inch 1366 x 768 IPS display, 31Wh battery, quad-core Bay Trail-T Atom CPU and runs Windows 8.1. There are 32 ($349) and 64GB ($399) storage options augmented by one free year of ASUS’s WebStorage service and a micro-SD reader, plus 2GB of RAM to keep things running smoothly. Connectivity includes micro-USB, micro-HDMI, and a single USB 3.0 port in the detachable dock. The T100 arrives in stores on October 18.

Company CEO Johnny Shih, calls the T100 a transformation of the ASUS’s venerable EeePC line. You see, with the EeePC, compromises were made to hit its $399 price point. Naturally, the T100 makes no such compromises, according to Shih, and in fact, he calls it a “game changer for mobile devices designed to achieve ultimate mobility.” Do we agree with his glowing assessment? Read on for our hands-on impressions.%Gallery-slideshow83873%
