ASUS VivoBook X102BA leaks with 10.1-inch screen and Win 8, reportedly launching next month

ASUS VivoBook X102BA leaks with 101inch screen and Win 8, reportedly launching next month

Families are all about growing — an honest case of “the more, the merrier,” if you will. Now, according to our friends over at SweClockers, ASUS is getting ready to make its own Vivo family a little larger by introducing the VivoBook X102BA. This leaked Windows 8 PC reportedly packs some pretty run-of-the-mill specs, including a 1.0GHz, dual-core AMD A4-1200 CPU (with Radeon HD 8180 for graphics), 2GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. What’s also of interest here is that ASUS is said to be bundling it with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013, which would certainly be a useful tool to interested parties. Per the report, the ASUS VivoBook X102BA will launch sometime in September for around 330 euros, or about 440 bucks if you’re this side of the pond.

[Thanks, Jacob]

8″ Tablets Expected To Be The Happy Middle Between 7″ And 10.1″ Offerings

8 Tablets Expected To Be The Happy Middle Between 7 And 10.1 OfferingsA few years ago we got tablets either in the 7” variety or the 10.1” variety from Android manufacturers, while Apple has stuck with its 9.7” display for the iPad, a 7.9” for its iPad mini, but it seems that 8” tablets could be the happy middle between 7” and 10.1” offerings, according to Taiwan manufacturers of tablets who spoke to DigiTimes. According to them, customers are starting to favor the 8” size as it is more usable compared to 7” tablets due to its slightly larger screen, and because it is smaller, it is also cheaper than its 10.1” counterparts.

According to their report, more manufacturers are starting to hop aboard the 8” bandwagon as well, and DigiTimes has named companies such as HP, LG, Lenovo, and ASUS who are expected to follow suit. Assuming that their report on the trends is accurate, it would certainly contradict rumors of Apple and Samsung who are reportedly looking to build 12” tablets which would be going in the other direction, but what do you guys think? Is an 8” tablet a happy middle between a 7” and a 10.1” tablet? In any case we guess we will just have to wait and see if the trend proves to be true.

ASUS Chromebook reportedly to hit shelves by end of year

The folks over at Digitimes have popped up with an interesting rumor, stating that “upstream supply chain” sources have tipped an ASUS Chromebook for a late 2013 launch. Such a move is reportedly to get large orders from educational institutions, as well as to “tighten” Asustek’s relationship with Internet giant Google. Asus expects that orders […]

ASUS MeMo Pad FHD 10 LTE Specs Outed In Promo Video

The ASUS MeMo Pad FHD 10 LTE made its unofficial debut back in June when ASUS CEO Jerry Shen decided to tease those in attendance of Qualcomm’s Computex keynote by flashing the unannounced tablet to the crowd. After the impromptu unveiling, ASUS has kept quiet in regards to the MeMo Pad FHD 10 LTE, but today, the company published an official promotional video on its YouTube channel that finally shows what the tablet is made of. ASUS MeMo Pad FHD 10 LTE specs revealed in official video

ASUS MeMo Pad FHD 10 LTE specs revealed in official video

It’s been sliced, it’s been diced, it’s been flaunted before. The ASUS MeMo Pad FHD 10 LTE — a mouthful, we know — was all but announced when CEO Jerry Shen brandished the slate on stage during Qualcomm’s keynote at Computex. While we got our mitts on the dual-core Atom-based (Clover Trail+) non-LTE model in Taipei, the Snapdragon-equipped LTE version’s been shrouded in mystery — until now. ASUS just posted an official promo video on YouTube that outlines the tablet’s specs: 9.9mm thick (vs. 9.5mm), 572g (vs. 580g), quad-core processor, stereo speakers, Miracast support, 5MP AF camera, 10-inch 1,920×1,200 IPS panel (178-degree viewing angles), 10-hour battery life, microSD card slot and an optional Folio Key keyboard cover. Not. Too. Shabby. Of course, it’s unclear exactly which quad-core Qualcomm SoC the device features, but with LTE in the mix, we’re guessing Snapdragon 800. Hit the break for the promo video.

Some 2013 Nexus 7 users report buggy multitouch, Google is investigating

Some 2013 Nexus 7 users report buggy multitouch, Google is investigating

A muddled sense of direction isn’t the only problem affecting the new generation of Nexus 7 slates, it seems, as some users are also reporting issues with multitouch on the 1,920 x 1,200 display. The clip below the fold demonstrates the bug, and shows the touchscreen registering phantom inputs before freaking out for a couple of seconds. Over the past few weeks, chatter on the XDA Developers and Google Product forums suggests it’s fairly common, with a response from Google on the latter stating: “The Android team is aware of this issue and investigating.” We haven’t had the same troubles with a 2013 Nexus 7 in our possession (running Android 4.3 build JSS15J, FYI), and while the root of the problem is still up for discussion, let’s hope funky software is to blame — no one wants the hassle of replacing faulty hardware, especially Google, when an OTA fix will do.

Nexus 7 factory image and binaries now available from Google

Nexus 7 factory image and binaries now available from Google

Wanna mod that shiny new Nexus 7? Today’s your lucky day. Google just posted the factory image and binaries for its second generation 7-inch tablet — also known by the product name “razor” and device name “flo”. The factory image lets you restore your new Nexus 7 to the exact software it shipped with in case you grow tired of that custom ROM you cooked up using the binaries (natch). Speaking of which, the packages include drivers for audio and sensors from ASUS, NFC from Broadcom plus graphics and everything-but-the-kitchen-sink from Qualcomm. This comes mere hours after some open source drama surrounding the binaries (which now appears to be resolved) and with plenty of time to spare for UK customers. Follow the source links below and have fun hacking this weekend.
