We were pleasantly surprised by the latest version of the Nexus 7, which landed in the US at the end of July. A little more patience has been required of Nexus fans on the other side of the pond, however, but the wait will soon be coming to an end. According to Pocket-Lint, ASUS has confirmed that the device will launch at midnight on August 28th, and will offer an asking price of £199.99 for the 16GB WiFi model and £239.99 for the 32GB WiFi-only version. There’s no word on an LTE unit hitting British shores, but we’ll keep you posted if we hear more.

Here we have another newly released graphics card from ASUS, the GeForce GTX 650 Ti OC Edition. Codenamed GTX650TI-O-1GD5, the card is packed with 768 CUDA Cores, a 128-bit memory interface, a core clock of 980MHz and a 1GB of GDDR5 memory set @ 5400MHz, and features 1x D-Sub, 2x DVI-D and 1x HDMI outputs. At last: the laptop buyer’s guide we wanted to write three months ago. You see, when it came time to publish our spring edition, Intel was on the cusp of releasing its fourth-generation Core processors, which meant almost everything we were recommending was destined for a refresh. So we basically said, “Wait for Haswell,” and called it a day. By now, though, most of said companies have upgraded their notebooks, if not released brand-new ones, so we can finally recommend stuff without any caveats about obsolescence.

Of note: we’ve eliminated the “touch” and “non-touch” sections since most Windows notebooks (save for gaming machines) now come with touch, or at least offer it as an option. We’ve tried to make it obvious which of our picks have that feature and which ones don’t. Oh, and if we’ve left something off the list, it might be because we don’t yet have enough details about pricing or availability (the new Acer Aspire S3 comes to mind). Let’s be honest: almost no one expected one of the world’s first 4K monitors to be ho hum. After all, it has eleventy gazillion pixels. Er, a native 3,840 x 2,160 resolution, but close enough. The gurus over at HotHardware were able to take the 31.5-inch PQ321 for a spin, and predictably, they loved what they saw. Outside of being duly impressed with how the panel handled everything from Photoshop work to gaming, they were also taken aback by the monitor’s svelte frame. In fact, they found it a little tough to look back on a 1080p screen after a couple of weeks with this thing — it’s like the SD-to-HD revolution all over again. That said, they did confess that the product feels a bit ahead of its time, and the monstrous $3,500 price tag is certainly indicative of that. Feel free to hit the source link for the full spiel, but the long and short of it is this: if you’re in the one percent, buy it.
