Imitone MIDI Controller Turns Voices Into MIDI Signals: Impressionist

Digital audio software lets you emulate the sounds of instruments that you don’t own or know how to play in real life. But these programs don’t eliminate the learning curve. They’re still not intuitive. Imitone can change that. It’s an Windows and OS X application that helps your computer convert your voice into a signal that music creating software can understand. With Imitone, you can sing a piano track. Whistle a guitar hook. Fart a string section. I hope.

Imitone is a software MIDI controller. In simple terms, a MIDI controller turns your input into MIDI, a format that many music and sound creation programs can understand. Common examples of a MIDI controller include keyboards and drum machines. Obviously, with those MIDI controllers you still have to know how to play drums, piano, etc. in order to create a melody. But with Imitone, the only thing you need to know how to use is your voice.

Here’s Imitone inventor Evan Balster imitating a violin in real time with the help of Imitone and Ableton Live:

Imitone reminds me of the Beardytron 5000, but way more user friendly. Speaking of which, Imitone will have two versions. Imitone will be for casual and amateur users, while Imitone Prime will pack advanced capabilities such as multi-channel control, noise cancellation, adjustable tuning and more. Pledge at least $25 (USD) on Kickstarter to get a copy of Imitone as a reward; pledge at least $60 if you want a copy of Imitone Prime.

Creative Sound Blaster Play! 2 USB Sound Card Announced

Creative Sound Blaster Play! 2 USB Sound Card AnnouncedBack when I was a wee lad, installing a sound card onto your MS-DOS-powered computer would require you to pull out the toolbox, take a screwdriver, and start to tinker around with the motherboard as you slot in a dedicated sound card into an available ISA slot, followed by having various games configure the sound card afterwards. Over time, the humble sound card has been miniaturized and embedded on most motherboards which works great for most folks unless you were an audiophile. Now, we have a USB sound card that is as easy as it gets to use, and the Creative Sound Blaster Play! 2 is one such device.

Nokia MD-12 Bluetooth Mini Speaker Revealed

Nokia MD 12 Bluetooth Mini Speaker RevealedBoy, what a day it has been for Nokia as they announced three new smartphones that are sure to resonate with the respective target markets, where these handsets would be the Nokia Lumia 630, Lumia 635 and the Lumia 930. Of course, what is the point of introducing new smartphones when there are no accessories to go along with it? Having said that, Nokia has also rolled out the Nokia MD-12 Bluetooth Mini Speaker which will certainly deliver an audio performance that punches above its weight, so to speak.

<--more-->While the Nokia MD-12 Bluetooth Mini Speaker might share the same dimensions as that of a regular apple, tipping the scales at 180 grams, it is no lightweight when it comes to audio performance. The presence of a built-in vibrating actuator that is located on the base would allow it to create heavy bass whenever you place it on most surfaces, although it would favor hard ones the most. Hence, you might want to experiment with a variety of surfaces before deciding which one suits your music playlist best.

When fully charged, the internal battery would be able to go on and on for a good 15 hours, making it more than enough to turn your room outside down the next time you invite your mates over for an intimate party. The Nokia MD-12 would also feature NFC and Bluetooth connectivity options to keep up with the times, and it retails for a highly affordable €39 as it arrives in distinctive shades of yellow, green, orange and white. Sony Bundles Michael Jackson’s “XSCAPE” Album With Xperia Z2

Similar to what Jay-Z did with Samsung, it seems that Sony wants to do something similar as well, which is to release a music album in conjunction with the release of a handset. In this case Sony plans to use the upcoming Xperia Z2 and will be releasing a new Michael Jackson album titled “XSCAPE” together with it.

Yes, we are well aware that the King of Pop is no longer with us, so XSCAPE isn’t technically new material, but will instead feature unreleased material which we guess did not make it to the studio albums, which in turn will no doubt make it an album that fans and collectors will want to get their hands on. The Dash Smart Headphones Raises Over $3 Million On Kickstarter

The Dash Smart Headphones Raises Over $3 Million On KickstarterBack in February we reported on a Kickstarter project called the The Dash. The project was for a pair of “smart” headphones and the project initially had a somewhat modest goal of $260,000, but now according to the latest update, it seems that project has managed to break the $3 million barrier, which means that it has managed to raise an additional $2 million since we last checked.

What this means is that the headphones are definitely good to go and if you’re interested in placing your order for them, you will be able to do so by hitting up their website. The early bird orders are now gone so we expect that they can still be pre-ordered for around $299 a pop, although for those who purchase them now, you can only expect delivery around January.
