It made sense that BlackBerry would include BBM on its phones. After all it would be considered an exclusive feature and a reason for people to hop on board the BlackBerry bandwagon. However when the company released BBM for other platforms, many were wondering how they were going to monetize the app since it was released for free.
One of the ways BlackBerry went about doing it was with the Channels feature that would allows companies to sponsor posts and updates, and recently another way was to release stickers as in-app purchases for the app. (more…)

Posted in: Today's ChiliLast year BlackBerry finally opened up BlackBerry Messenger to other platforms. For now it is only available as a standalone app for iOS and Android. The company now has set its sights on Windows Phone, Microsoft’s mobile platform, which has outdone it in several markets. BlackBerry CEO John Chen has confirmed that BBM for Windows Phone will be released in the second quarter of this fiscal year.

Back in the day before WhatsApp became really popular and other instant messengers flooded the market, there was BBM. The app was available as an exclusive to BlackBerry devices back in the day, at least until last year when BlackBerry decided to open it up to Android and iOS users as well, potentially adding more users to its user base. When push comes to a shove, one would be willing to eschew their ideals in exchange for survival. Having said that, BlackBerry has not been doing too well lately in terms of its sales figures, and the recent fourth quarter fiscal 2014 results have been far from encouraging as sales of their bread and butter Curve as well as Bold devices that run on BlackBerry 7 have started to experience a steep decline. BlackBerry have lost their leverage that they had in their heydays when they did not want to bring BBM to other platforms, and it might be possible that we will see BBM introduced to desktops eventually in an attempt to expand their user base.

If there is one feature that we love about smartwatches is the ability to display information such as notifications and alerts whenever we receive a message, a call, an email, and so on. It saves us time from having to take our phones from our pockets or bags, and it also lets us know we have notifications for those times when the phone is on silent.
Well the good news is that if you’re a Pebble owner and you use BBM as one of your main apps for messaging friends, family, or co-workers, you might be interested to learn that your Pebble will be able to get BBM alerts thanks to a BlackBerry 10 app called Talk2Watch Pro. (more…)

The other day we reported that thanks to a recent survey, BlackBerry began asking what users might think about the idea of customizable BBM PINs. We thought it was a great idea, although there could be some limitations that might see PIN ideas run out pretty quick.
However it seems that in another part of the survey, it also asked if users would be interested in paying for such customizability, which is a pretty interesting question. Since the survey is a closed survey, we’re not sure what the results were. (more…)
Customizable BBM PINs Could Be A Paid Feature original content from Ubergizmo.
Unless you’re constantly giving out your BBM PIN to people you meet, chances are you will have to go through the BBM menu to find the PIN (or the QR code) to give it to someone who is trying to add you. It also doesn’t help that the BBM PINs are a string of letters and numbers, making it a pretty tricky thing to try and remember.
That being said, wouldn’t it be nice if we could customize our BBM PINs? Perhaps make them a little more identifiable? At the moment that is not a feature that BlackBerry is planning on introducing, but thanks to a recent screenshot of a survey sent in to the folks at BlackBerryOS, it seems that it is a feature BlackBerry could be considering.
