BBM for Android video demonstration tipped ahead of official launch

One of the most popular features of BlackBerry smartphones is BBM or BlackBerry Messenger. That service is popular with users of BlackBerry devices and businesses for communicating and keeping in touch. As the popularity of BlackBerry smartphones continues to wane, BlackBerry is looking to bring BBM to other smartphones. Recently a video demonstration of BBM […]

BBM For Android Video Leaked, Taken Private Shortly Afterwards

BBM For Android Video Leaked, Taken Private Shortly AfterwardsEarlier today, we did bring you word that BBM for iOS as well as Android are tipped for a release at the end of October, which is not all that long to wait when you think about it. Having said that, a walkthrough video of BBM for Android was leaked thanks to JT and BlackBerryOS, where the merger of BBM’s famous chat app alongside everyone’s favorite virtual keyboard on the Android platform is certainly an experience worth looking forward to. The video walkthrough also did glaze over the ability for one to transfer contacts to another Android-powered device using NFC connectivity, which bodes well for the messaging app as this means it will be able to maximize its presence on the new mobile operating systems other than BlackBerry 10 OS.

Unfortunately, it was not too long – just minutes, in fact, right after posting when the leaked video was taken private, so for the early few who managed to catch a glimpse of BBM for Android in action, good for you, while the rest of us will just have to wait and sit it out. Should you have caught a glimpse of BBM for Android before in the video walkthrough, how do you find the entire experience?

BBM for Android will look like this: beta tester gives you the tour (video)

BBM for Android Beta tester give you the tour video

BlackBerry Messenger’s trip to iOS and Android is taking longer than we hoped, but when walkthrough videos are starting to leak out, it’s a good sign that you’re on the final stretch. Courtesy of JT and BlackBerryOS, we’ve now got an early peek of what it’ll look like when the app eventually lands. Combining BBM’s rigorous chat app with our favorite Android keyboards sounds mighty tempting and it appears the app follows the bezel-swiping navigation of the BlackBerry 10 OS to get to your chat threads and groups. The video walkthrough (included after the break) also touches on the ability to transfer contacts through NFC, which is good sign that the messaging app will make the most of these the new mobile OSes.

Update: Within minutes of posting, the video’s gone private. At least we’ll have the memories, right? We’re back!

BBM For iOS And Android Tipped For Release End Of Next Month

BBM For iOS And Android Tipped For Release End Of Next MonthThe other day the BBM landing page for iOS and Android went up a little earlier than BlackBerry had anticipated before it was quickly pulled down. This led to speculation that the app could be launched in the near future, although according to reports, the app could instead be launched towards the end of next month. This is according to a Canadian executive at BlackBerry who alleges that the app will arrive by the end of next month with a ton of messaging features that will hopefully allow the app to compete with the likes of WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, LINE, and etc.

BBM for iOS and Android is said to be arriving towards the end of summer and we guess for those hoping for an early release will have to wait it out. There has been talks about how BlackBerry could spin off BBM into a separate company while the rest of the company focuses on fixing their problems. While BBM for iOS and Android might have mattered a few years ago when BlackBerry was still popular, we have to wonder if the app will be relevant these days, what with the variety of messaging apps we have to choose from these days. In any case the signup page has gone live, so you can leave your email on BlackBerry’s page and they will notify you when the app has been launched.

Blackberry’s BBM App Page Mistakenly Went Live, Here’s What It Said

Blackberry's BBM App Page Mistakenly Went Live, Here's What It Said

BlackBerry’s web people made a bit of a faux pas last night, accidentally making a page advertising its cross-platform BBM apps live before time. They pulled it, but it lives on in the form of incriminating screen captures.

BBM for iPhone and Android semi-functional launch page goes live

We’ve known for some time that a BBM app for Android and iOS will be coming, but nothing had been set in stone as far as launch dates go. Last week, user guides for both varieties of mobile operating systems leaked, hinting that BlackBerry messenger would likely be arriving soon, and that conclusion seems to […]

BBM For iOS And Android Landing Page Spotted Before Being Taken Down

BBM For iOS And Android Landing Page Spotted Before Being Taken DownGiven that iOS and Android both have a plethora of messenger platforms to choose from, we’re not sure if the addition of BBM will help BlackBerry at all, but we guess sometimes variety is not a bad thing. For those who feel the same and are looking forward to BBM for iOS and Android, you’ve probably heard that the app will be arriving soon, but how soon? Well it seems that for a brief moment, the landing page of BBM for iOS and Android had gone live on BlackBerry’s website. Unfortunately the page has since been pulled, but not before the folks at CrackBerry managed to grab a screenshot of it which you can see pictured above.

CrackBerry has also noted that while BBM will arrive on iOS, the page clearly notes the iPhone, meaning that BBM for the iPad might not be an option, at least for the time-being. Still no word on when BBM for iOS and Android will be launch, but with Samsung Ghana advertising the app and with the landing page going live (briefly), perhaps a launch in the very near future can be anticipated. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more info, so check back with us at a later date to see if there are any updates to be had!

BlackBerry landing page prematurely declares ‘BBM for Android and iPhone is here’

BlackBerry landing page prematurely declares 'BBM for Android and iPhone is here'

BlackBerry’s messaging tool doesn’t appear to be live for Android and iOS just yet, but if this new landing page is any indication, the service is just about ready to launch. A new dedicated page with the banner “BBM for Android and iPhone is here,” appeared under the company’s Canadian domain this morning, along with an inactive link to download BBM for Android and another for iPhone. Further down the page are references to additional features that won’t be included at launch, such as BBM Voice, BBM Video and screen sharing features, which instead are expected this fall. The page has since been removed, but it may reappear any minute/hour/day now at the source link below.

BlackBerry Rumored To Spin BBM Off Into A Separate Company

BlackBerry Rumored To Spin BBM Off Into A Separate Company
So we know that BBM will be arriving on iOS and Android in the near future, although a specific date has yet to be given. In fact by releasing on iOS and Android, it will effectively end its exclusive streak where the app had remained solely on the BlackBerry platform. Now thanks to a report from the Wall Street Journal, they claim that BlackBerry might be interested in spinning BBM off into a separate company of its own, and that they are moving some of their executives over to the alleged spinoff to help expand what BBM can do.

We’re not sure what the goal is here, perhaps it is to preserve BBM while BlackBerry figures out what to do with the rest of the company. We have heard reports that BlackBerry could be looking to take itself private, thus reducing scrutiny from the public and take that time to work out their issues before returning to the limelight. In any case BBM as it stands has about 60 million active users, which pales in comparison to competing apps like WhatsApp who boasts 250 million, but will the expansion to iOS and Android help them gain more users? We guess we will have to wait and see!

Samsung BBM On Android Ad Pulled Down

Samsung BBM On Android Ad Pulled DownIt was not too long ago when we brought you word that Samsung has started to advertise BBM for their selected range of Galaxy devices, and apparently, the particular advertisement hailed from the Ghanian arm of Samsung. In the video itself, there was no release date given, but it does pinpoint one simple fact – that BBM for Android is closer than ever before.

In a nutshell, if you happen to own a compatible Samsung Galaxy device, having access to the BBM social network would mean communicating even more with your other friends who are also on the BBM social network. Granted, there are so many different kinds of instant messaging apps out there in the market these days that you would be hard-pressed not to have a favorite, and for an Android user to rely on BBM might seem a little bit strange at first, but I am quite sure that it is an idea that many will warm up to eventually. Unfortunately, the earlier ad from Samsung Ghana concerning BBM for Android has been taken down from YouTube, so it just goes to show that it was a leak that was not meant to roll out – just yet, anyways, and we do hope to get another glimpse at it – an official one this time around, in the future. The immediate future, Samsung, you hear?
